Presentation Day Friday 15th December

Last day for students

Wow! Did those concert tickets sell out quickly. At this stage

there are only a couple of tickets for Thursday night left. If you

have missed out on tickets you are welcome to attend the dress

rehearsal at 12 noon on Monday 27th November. There are

no booked seats for the dress rehearsal and tickets are a gold

coin donation at the door.

If you have purchased tickets that you are unable to use please

contact Mrs Cowburn in the office as she usually has a waiting

list of people wanting to buy tickets.

As we have in the past, we will take photos of the acts before the

concert and have them available for order on the nights of the

performance.

Our 2017 school leaders have done a fantastic job and will

certainly leave big shoes to fill. Our election process for 2018

school leaders has begun. Our process is very much like a job

application:

an expression of interest is circulated to the current Year 5

students and they need to complete this written application

the applications are presented to the staff (with the names

removed) and from these the staff select 12 students to move

through to the next phase

students are then given a week to prepare a speech on a set

topic (we equate this to the job interview)

following the speeches staff and students in Years 2 to 5 vote

for their chosen 6 leaders.

Our end of year calendar is looking really busy. Please check

your calendar against ours. In case you missed the message in

last week’s newsletter, we have had to change our Presentation

Day to Wednesday 6th December to avoid a clash with Year 6

transition to high school.

Describing Patterns

Patterns are everywhere! We use and see patterns in a variety of ways. In a repeating pattern, the pattern core is the part that repeats over and over – for example, in the pattern ABB ABB ABB, the pattern core is ABB. Help your child recognize the structure of repeating patterns in these fun exercises! • Lay a row of nine spoons so that each handle points up or down in a pattern with a core of up, up, down (up, up, down (AAB); up, up, down (AAB); up, up, down (AAB)). Ask your child to extend the pattern. • Make this task more challenging and ask your child to describe and say the patterns aloud: • Make the pattern core longer – for example, up, up, down, up; up, up, down, up; up, up, down, up. • Change one of the elements in the pattern core – for example, up, up, down, sideways; up, up, down, sideways; up, up, down, sideways. • Explore growing patterns with your child by

using toothpicks or straws. Ask your child to

keep the pattern growing. What comes next?

Last Tuesday the race that stopped a school was run and won over the gruelling 223m course. Who shot my brother ridden by Rhys S was the early favourite but Wreck it Tat was too speedy and won from the closing Bones with Bolt an excellent 3rd. An unexpected run from Santa and his reindeer caused a few problems but luckily, the ambulance was not needed. Many thanks to the 40 students who made the effort to create a horse, so we could all enjoy the Blackalls Cup.
