Holiday Tree Lighting

Join the Greenlawn Civic Association and kick off the holiday season with songs, hot chocolate, and cookies. Santa will be arriving on a Greenlawn Fire Department truck and lighting the tree! Menorah LightingMonday, December 26th, 7:00 PM

Join the community for the lighting of the menorah in front of the Library.

The Greenlawn Fire Department and Greenlight Tree Service deserve a special thank you for hanging the lights and star on the tree.

An Afternoon Concert of Joyous Holiday Brass Music with the Sound Brass QuintetSunday, December 18th, 2:00 PM

This beautiful and exciting brass music concert will feature an eclectic mix of classical and holiday favorites for the entire family. The Sound Brass is a professional brass quintet from Long Island featuring Joe Boardman and Ellen Ryan, Trumpet; Tom Gellert, French Horn; Terry Nigrelli, Trombone; and, Mike Richardson, Bass Trombone. A post-concert reception immediately follows with the Sound Brass Quartet!

Melissa Maravell “A Holiday Songbook”Sunday, December 11th, 3:00 PM

Melissa sang with the New York City Opera Company for more than twenty-five years, but her first love is performing a variety of styles of music, accompanying herself on guitar. Her career has taken her from the opera stage to musical comedy, and cham-

ber music to folk festivals… yet she is no stranger to an impromptu concert from the tailgate of a station-wagon.

Join her for an afternoon of the American Songbook clas-sics spanning the decades from Colonial America to the old standards of the forties and fifties and also a bit of sixties folk, Beatles, and original compositions as well as a little opera and of course some songs of the season. This program is spon-sored by the Friends of the Library. Free tickets are available at the Circulation Desk.

Holiday Kissing BallHoliday Greenery WorkshopThursday, December 8th, 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Floral Designer Phyllis Chan Carr will show you how to create this holiday decoration using assorted mixed greens. Bring a small pair of lightweight garden shears or heavy scissors, garden gloves, and a wire hanger. There is a $12 supply fee for the workshop. You will go home with a 10- 12-inch kissing ball to hang outdoors. Harborfields Library cardholders may register in-person at the Reference Desk.

Sight and Insight: A Photographic Journey by Michael FairchildArtist Reception Saturday, December 10th, 3:00 - 4:30 PM

Professional photographer Michael Fairchild has assembled an exhibition of his favorite images from around the world. The ex-hibit will be on display throughout December. His collection spans 47 years of wildlife, portraiture and landscape photography. Imagine hummingbirds, Myanmar temples, faces of all ages, leop-ards, clouds, school children, mystic world heritage sites, ocean surf, flowers, and lightning storms all in one gallery. To hear more about these stunning images and how you can learn to capture great photographs on your own journey, join Michael on December 14th for the Art of Travel Photography.

The Art of Travel PhotographyWednesday, December 14th, 7:00 PM

If you’ve ever been disappointed by your vacation photos or just want to improve to your photography skills in general, join Professional Travel Photographer Michael Fairchild for a lecture and presentation about how to get the best results from your travel photography. This illustrated lecture and open question and answer session will cover the funda-mentals of composition, lighting, exposure, post production, Photoshop techniques and mental attitude. Getting great people photos requires a sense of humor, the ability to negoti-ate local customs and often split-second timing. Learn why

Operation Holiday Gift Giving

Collecting Small Gifts For Children In Need

A few dedicated volunteers in our community are work-ing with the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington to provide gifts and necessi-ties to local children in need. We are collecting donations of new gifts for children ages 5 to 12-years-old that will fit in shoeboxes. We also need empty shoeboxes and volunteers to wrap at 11 AM on Friday, December 9th. Please bring wrapping paper and tape and join us for a wrapping party in the Library Meeting Room! A collection bin will be in the Library Lobby through December 8th. Suggested gifts are: playing cards, hair clips, hair scrunchies, soft toys, teddy bears, dolls, craft kits, small games, necklaces, school sup-plies, Play Dough, hats, jump ropes, Matchbox cars, solar calculators, flashlights and extra batteries, harmonicas, T-shirts, socks, sunglasses, watches, stamping kits, etc. No liquids, lotions, medica-tions, aerosol cans, break-able items, chocolate, food or toy guns.

Meet at the HUNTINGTON Train Station at 9:15 AM to board the 9:36 AM train

Make plans to travel to New York City with other members of the Harborfields Library community. Purchase your tickets in advance from the Harborfields Public Library Circulation Desk at the discounted rate of $10 per ticket. Tickets must be paid for by 9 PM on Wednesday, December 14th. When travel-ing to New York, the group will board the train together and must sit in the first car. A Library representative will be inside the HUNTINGTON Train Station at 9:15 AM and will distribute your pre-paid ticket for the 9:36 AM train. You may use your discounted ticket to return from New York at any time on the same day, and may disembark at any station along the route. All sales are final, and no refunds will be issued.
