New Term Once again the summer holidays have passed us by and we are hopefully all
refreshed ready for the new academic year. I hope you have all been reading
over the holidays? If so, pop down to the LRC and complete a Reading
Review Poster for the LRC noticeboard. My aim for this academic year is to
make reading fun for you all. I have numerous events planned for the next
year ranging from reading activities, book clubs and author visits.
As always if you wish the LRC to stock a particular book that you really want
to read, please ask a pupil librarian at the library desk for a slip to fill out.
I wish you all the best for this academic year and if I can help you at all with
anything regarding reading or the LRC please come and see me.
Happy Reading

02 Newsletter
I found out that some
pupils have been
reading Private
Peaceful in English,
so I thought I would
read it after hearing
such amazing
recommendations.
Private Peaceful is
both moving and
informative and gave
me some insight into
how it was like to be
a soldier during
World War One.
This is a fabulous
book which is well
written and enticed
me into reading War
Horse which is also
written by Michael

dark. Who knows? Your work might pay off, and your seeds might produce.

Book Review by Alisha Ahmed—Year 10 Pupil Librarian
BOOK TITLE: Maze Runner AUTHOR: James Dashner
Maze runner is the first in a series of books written by James Dashner. It starts off with a boy called Thomas. When the doors of the lift crank open the only thing Thomas can remember is his first name. He is not alone. He is surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade, an encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got there or what’s happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning the walls slide back, the Runners will risk their lives to find out. I would recommend this book as it is an action packed, Sci-Fi novel that will have
you at a nail biting cliff-hanger at the end of every chapter. I thought the book was
quite good and my favourite character was Newt who was elected first welcomed
Thomas to the Glade. Newt steps up to being the leader after Alby is attacked by a
Griever, a creature who lives in the maze, and has to make harsh decisions. He is
friendly and kind towards Thomas but he is always keeping secrets and refused to
