Learn about how you may volunteer, or donate your wares, services and expertise by contacting The Auction Team at mailto:[email protected]. PTA AWARDS -- Our annual PTA Awards celebration, called Founder's Day, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th in multi-purpose room at 6:30. If you know of a teacher or volunteer at the school that deserves recognition please take the time to fill out the attached form and return it to the office PTA box no later than March 4th. Please join us for a lovely evening to show appreciation to the people that make Roosevelt a wonderful place for our kids. We will be serving a dessert buffet and would appreciate anyone that could donate a dessert and/or help serve the desserts that evening. We will be accepting donations at the door to recoup the costs of the event. o Ms. Dodd reported all classrooms just received new books to help support the Engage NY Common Core program. There are a number of teachers doing Mills Scholars. Soraya is working on supporting teachers on using new technology in the classroom.

Principal’s Report o Kid Power students presentations well received. All

5th grade classes received an hour and will receive a second hour in April with a focus on on-line safety. The parent workshop on March 7 is full.

o LGBTQS are having a game night March 12 that is open to all. They will have a parent ed event in May. They want to create a workshop around transitioning to middle school – emotional issues, relationship issues, drug exposure, bullying, identity issues.

o AAPAG (African American Parent Advisory Group) is in the process of putting up their display. There is a mock voting booth in hall. Theme this year is civil rights.

o LCAP - there will be a community engagement forum – one tonight and one later this month. Would like input for next year. There is a survey on district website for parents.

o GATE Testing: Fourth grade students will be tested this year. No third graders will test.

o SBAC is coming for 3-5 graders. Children can do practice tests online to prepare them.

Fundraising o Had the Pennies for Patients assembly and boxes are

coming both to classrooms and small ones for each student. Deadline will be the Friday after our vacation next week.

o Mountain Mike’s fundraiser still happening. Treasurer’s Report o Tricia had a balance sheet for January. We are on

track.

o Outdoor Ed. – After letter went out to parents, now only short $2000 for Pigeon Point. Almost $500 was raised by students at bake sale. $3,000 still needed for Marine Science Boat Fieldtrip.

o In the future, the PTA will work on clear communication to parents regarding funding outdoor education. It was suggested walkathon be done for all ages. Idea of looking for grants was also shared.

Founder’s Day o March 11. Need people to bring desserts.

Nominations for Teacher of the Year and PTA Volunteer awards will go out in newsletter. Anyone can make nominations.

Auction Report o is coming May 9. Tricia will put in newsletter what help

is still needed. Board Positions

o need people to volunteer and make a difference. There will be info in newsletter about positions.

Misc. o Variety show – March 20. May need to change date as

it is the same date as the spring concert. o Teacher Appreciation week – March 23-27.

PTA board positions Elected Positions:

o President - Coordinates the work of board officers and committees. Is the official representative for the PTA at the district meeting. Coordinates school activity schedule, signs PTA checks and acts as the liaison with the principal.

o Executive Vice President - Serves as primary aide to the president. Performs the duties of the president in the absence or disability of that officer. Assists with organizing and chairing monthly meetings, newsletter and other duties as needed. May sign all PTA checks.

o Vice President of Programs - Responsible for overseeing spending of budgeted money on school assemblies and community events such as kindergarten welcome, family nights, or parent education. Responsible for overseeing the reading program budget and program as well.

o Vice President of Membership - Responsible for the fall membership drive, keeping all records and reporting to the district office as necessary. Develops e-mail list of PTA members.

o Vice President of Volunteers - Coordinates Back to School Tea and volunteer sign-ups. Communicates with all Room Parents and procures volunteers for school functions as needed throughout the year.

o Financial Secretary - Creates an annual budget for the year. Keeps a record of expenses, receives all monies for the PTA and ACE Program. Makes all

3 deposits, prepares receipts for all expenditures. Co-signs checks with President or Vice President and remits dues and insurance matters according the State PTA. Prepares a monthly report for the PTA board. Prepares all required documents for tax filings and submits to professional accountants.

o Historian - Keeps records and materials of the association and creates a scrapbook highlighting the years activities.

o Parliamentarian - Attends all meetings of the association and gives advice in procedure where needed. Calls the first meeting of the nominating committee, conducts election of the chairman and gives instructions in procedure. Chairs the bylaws committee and reviews the bylaws and standing rules annually.

Appointed Positions: o Auction Coordinator - Responsible for the overall

management of the Annual Spring Auction. Coordinates volunteers and committee members in gathering donations and all aspects of the event itself.

o E-Scrip Coordinator - Raises awareness of fundraising opportunities through E-Scrip including gift card sales that benefit Roosevelt.

o Staff Hospitality Coordinator - Plans and implements Founders Day, monthly school luncheons for staff, as well as staff appreciation days. Uses creativity to support teachers and staff.

o Community Hospitality Coordinator - Plans and implements events involving the Roosevelt Community. These include Special Persons Day, Open Classroom Day, PTA meetings and Coffee Breaks.

o Variety Show Coordinator - Coordinates and oversees all aspects of Spring Variety Show including auditions, practices and presentation of show.

o Kindergarten Liaison - Responsible for planning and implementation of the annual Kindergarten Get-Together in August prior to the start of school. Will proactively communicate with incoming kindergarten parents to help them with all areas of parenting at Roosevelt and works with VP of membership to help get them involved in PTA.

o Reading Program Coordinator - Responsible for distributing program information to students, collecting and recording student reading sheets, and planning the celebration for participants at the end of the program. The reading program is typically 4-6 weeks and runs over winter break.

o Health and Safety Coordinator - Work with principal as needed on issues regarding campus safety

such as emergency/disaster preparedness. Coordinate lunch time parent volunteer supervisors.

o Family Outreach Coordinator - Works with school staff by assisting them with Spanish-speaking families. Acts as the liaison with the school by informing them of meetings and events as well as translations where needed.

o Fall Festival Coordinator – Responsible for the overall management of the Fall Festival.

o Fundraising Chair – Oversees fundraising committee and coordinates and/or delegates fundraising activities. Brings ideas to Association for approval.

o Box Tops Coordinator – Raises awareness of fundraising opportunities through Box Tops for Education. Collects box tops and submits them for benefit of Roosevelt.

Attention Roosevelt Families: Save the Date and get ready for an AWESOME night out for the best cause – our kids! This year’s auction extravaganza will be an ISLAND PARADISE filed with great times! There will be fun and useful items for every budget, not to mention tasty food, drinks and music! We hope everyone will be able to come, but even if you can’t make the event: WE NEED YOUR HELP! Donations that come from Roosevelt parents and their extended network of friends, family, and work associates are some of the most outstanding and popular items at the auction. So here are a couple of simple ways YOU CAN PARTICIPATE:

! Donate an auction item. You may not think you have something “auction worthy”, be we bet you do! Perhaps you have a special skill (computers, rock climbing, graphic designs?), a vacation property, sporting event tickets, theater tickets, fine art, or handmade items? Maybe you like to bake or cook, plan parties, teach tennis, hula or scrapbook? All of these (and much more) can become a HUGE successful auction item or Pay-to-Play. If you’re considering something, or what to ask questions, need help or suggestions, just let us know.

! Take a moment to ask your employer or your favorite local business

for an auction donation. This could include a gift certificate, a facility tour, a lesson/class, sporting event or performance tickets, gift baskets, etc.

It really is the simple things that you can do that help make this event successful. Thank you all for any help you can provide. Your participation is really what makes our school and our children succeed. Keep an eye out for ticker information and more details soon. We hope to see you at the auction! Dear Friend of Roosevelt Elementary School, The hard-working staff and families at Roosevelt continue to find creative ways of keeping the school a vibrant and safe environment for learning and achievement. The Roosevelt Spring Auction is a fantastically fun, community-based event with an ever-growing attendance and lots of local support. This year our theme will be Roosevelt Island Paradise . It will be a night

filled with relaxing island themed fun paired with raising money for our wonderful school. We are writing to ask for your help by contributing to our school auction, our primary fundraiser of the year. We hope to purchase books and materials for our classrooms and library, as well as continuing to fund our Instructional Aide who supports our teachers in our classrooms. As class sizes continue to grow, our Aide becomes more and more important to our teachers. Auction profits will also enable us to continue implementing our successful anti-bullying curriculum. Any donation of gift certificates or Auction items that you can provide will go a long way toward providing much-needed supplies to our children and improvements to our school. And of course it promotes your company as a community-minded business to an audience of local leaders, business owners, parents and other involved community members! All donations will receive: !
