How to Achieve the OBJECTIVES
Programs
The 2017 ProgramThe new curriculum aims to enhance the program even further to help the Washington state players achieve their dream of playing at the collegiate level. You must have a plan to get recognized, evaluated and identified.
Important components to be successful: • Quality Staff • Meaningful Training • Opportunities for the player • Pathway to College
Player Assessment
• Defending = Principles
• Counter attacking= How Did We Use the Ball When We Regained Possession?
• Possession= See the chance to break?
• Did we dominate the 2 v 1 situation?
• Did we sometimes leave ourselves vulnerable through poor decision making?
• Finishing =Did we maximize our opportunities
• Fitness expectations. Establish a baseline for team/individuals
• What gets measured gets improved!
We decided to work in the following order.
Setting the TONE of the ENVIROMENT
Implement Long Term Development Curriculum
• To play effectively when in possession of the ball.
• Both as a team and also as individuals?
• Instill into the players know how & when?
• More importantly do they understand & retain?
• Need to be comfortable in possession?
• Can we keep the ball for a purpose?
• Patient?
• Self assessment.

Expand The PSPL Surf Youth Development Platform - Launch the Surf Juniors Pre-Academy 2005 & 2006
The PSPL Surf Academy 2005s, open to players born after Jan 1, 2005.This will effectively bridge the gap between the PSPL Surf Academyteams (starting at 2004 birth years). Intended for elite youth players, these teams will offer training and game environments unmatched in the local youth soccer landscape.
We are proud to announce the addition of two pre-academy teams under our Surf Juniors to our youth development program. By providing opportunities for our 2005s to be technical sound, and competition, we aim to advance the development of our players at an early age and better prepare them for the challenges in an elite arena.
The new development program will help provide a deeper connection between the Washington State grassroots youth soccer community and the academy level. The extension of the Surf Juniors Pre-Academy teams will help the player development pathway to the younger ages. This will allow us to place talented players into a carefully developed training environment that is focused on cultivating talent at an important developmental age.
Throughout the Spring and Fall, each team will participate in two local training sessions per month focuses improving their technical skills in a demanding training environmentIn addition to one centralized session. All teams will participate in twohigh-level tournaments each year and players will benefit from additional Winter training, Summer residential camps and supplementary position specific training.

Surf Juniors Pre-Academy 2005 Tactical Coaching Will Enforce
There are three (3) moments in the game of soccer:
• When your team has possession of the ball (attacking)…• When your team does not have possession of the ball (defending)…• When your team is changing from one to the other (transition)…
Therefore the players must understand the Principles of the game:
• Attacking Principles• Defending Principles• Transition
Surf Juniors Pre-Academy 2005 Tactical Coaching
Important player terminology:
• 1st Attacker…player in possession of the ball; responsible for penetration.• 2nd Attackers…players near the 1st attacker; responsible for support .• 3rd Attackers…players away from the 1st attacker; responsible for mobility and providing width and
length.
• 1st Defender(s)…player(s) pressuring the ball.• 2nd Defenders…players near the 1st defender; responsible for defensive support/cover
.• 3rd Defenders…players away from the 1st defender; responsible for tracking 3rd
attackers (attacking players away from the ball) and squeezing space centrally.
The Ultimate GOAL!!!
The innate ability by a player or players to solve a
soccer problem with flair and creativity.

Guiding Philosophy
"On a good team there are no superstars. There are
great players who show they are great players by
being able to play with others as a team. They have
the ability to be superstars, but if they fit into a good
team, they make sacrifices, they do things necessary
to help the team win"
