Dear Friend,

I felt like I was back in Bible times. It was how I’d always pictured it: narrow streets with smooth

mud-plastered walls. We were in a village in India, visiting two Global Mission pioneers.

Many hours before we’d been in a bustling Indian city, on streets teeming with people, cars, and motor- and cycle-powered rickshaws. Our car had turned off the main road hours ago.

As the hours passed, so did the scenes outside: women and children carrying pitchers of water on their heads, an old man threshing grain, driving an ox tethered to walk in endless circles.

We had barely stopped before the children were there. Surrounding the car, clamoring to see, reaching out to touch in greeting. Two pio-neers were there to meet us, smiling, greeting us in the traditional Indian manner with hands palm to palm in front of them, then reaching out and shaking hands to cover all the bases.

We headed into the village, and that’s when I felt like I was back in Bible times. Followed by our ever-present entourage of children now joined by curious adults, we wound our way through the twists and turns of the narrow passageways. We stopped in front of a low open-ing in a mud wall and I was motioned through. Stooping, I emerged in a small courtyard crammed with people—wall to wall people. I remem-ber the bright colors of clothes and headscarves. Yellows, blues, reds, purples. I remember the eyes. I remember the smiles of changed lives.

These two pioneers had come to this village, strangers. They had visited homes. They had prayed with the people. Over two years, they had come to love and be loved. And they had introduced people to Jesus. Although I knew I wasn’t in Bible times, and India is far from the Bible lands, I sensed Jesus had come to this village. We couldn’t stay long. I remember the sound of singing as that courtyard echoed in praise to our unseen God.

Sobana’s Door-to-Door Mission

Meet Sobana, a lay evangelist work-ing in India. She travels to remote

villages to study the Bible with people who want to learn about Jesus. One day Sobana’s group invited a man named Kishore to study with them.

Kishore was a respected temple priest. He had many questions, but as he studied the Bible with Sobana, he grew to love Jesus and decided to become a Seventh-day Adventist Christian.

It was a difficult choice. When Kishore left the temple priesthood, his family and friends deserted him. It has been a struggle for Kishore, but he finds strength in sharing God’s love with others, and he has helped lead nine people to Christ.

Your support of Global Mission helps people like Sobana reach people like Kishore and start new groups of believers in unentered areas. Thank you!

Nepal…land of spectacular

mountain peaks and some of the best trek-king in the world. It is home to more than 300 species of exotic orchids and over 500 species of butterflies. This beauti-ful country also has a rural population that suffers from extreme poverty and homelessness.

Your donations have made it possible for Global Mission pioneers to begin feeding programs for children in impoverished areas. Classes in hygiene and basic education will be offered to those who have never had a chance to go to school. Please pray for this unique opportunity to enter small villages in Nepal.

“I Was Thirsty”

Barren, drought-ridden, and

inhospitable, the Great Indian Des-ert sprawls across most of Rajast-han, India’s larg-est state. Here in

the remote village of Zaira, villagers jour-ney three to five miles in search of enough water to survive. Thanks to your support of Global Mission, a hand pump will make clean water available to these villagers and open doors for sharing the Living Water with them in the future.
