Hot metal production
Steel has to meet the increasing requirements for quality. This aff ects both pro-duction plants and process management, imposing specifi c requirements on both plant technology and refractory materials. Monolithic mixes and pre-fabricated parts with their increasingly effi cient binding properties have been created espe-cially for these applications. However, due to metallurgical and process engineer-ing aspects these materials are not always suitable for use in all processes or do not off er the user any specifi c advantages. The overall process of steel production therefore needs to be analysed and assessed.
Our philosophy is to provide “Refractories and Services in System” to increase the effi ciency, profi tability, and quality of your operations. Invisible, but indispensable – Only refractories allow the control of high temperatures.
In the fi eld of hot metal production, our main objective is to fi nd and off er, practical refractory solutions for the customer at all essential stages of iron manufacturing.
In recent years the share of monolithic products has steadily risen and castables, mixes and pre-fabricated parts are now increasingly used in the blast furnace en-vironment.
We can provide a selection of suitable products - from the coking plant to the blast furnace, transport of hot metal to the steel mill with torpedo and hot metal ladles.
This market trend is a challenge that we are able to take up!

Coking plant
Starting with diff erent installation methods we off er various solutions such as ce-ramic-setting mortar for silica and fi reclay bricks used in coke oven construction and for pre-fabricated parts in coke oven doors.
Blast furnace
EKW off ers solutions to optimize the processes within the blast furnace. Depend-ing on local conditions and installation methods, the blast furnace is lined with dry and wet gunning mixes. Bosh, hearth and tap hole are maintained externally with injection mixes. A variety of tap hole mixes in diff erent grades for all sizes of blast furnace complete our product range.
Casthouse fl oor
We off er reliable high-performance solutions from primary supply to maintenance for tapping, iron, slag and tilting runners as well as spouts for hot metal and slag. In line with our main supply program we use unshaped products for the respective runner systems. Our range of products comprises casting, vibrating and self-fl ow-ing castables, gunning mixes, shotcrete material, ramming mixes, plastic mixes, dry vibration mixes and pre-fabricated parts. We also provide products for other plant components such as cover hoods and off er short assembly times and long durability.
Hot metal transport
We off er various monolithic products requiring diff erent installation methods (cast-ing, gunning). These increase running times and reduce specifi c costs of torpedo and transport ladles.
