Friends: We believe that good business goes hand in hand with good citizenship, and we do our best to put that principle into practice. Coturo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was created to honour the memory of our late friend Carlos Correa. It is also serving as a means to raise funds for a variety of children’s charities, including the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. This year, all of the proceeds collected from the sale of Coturo Cabernet Sauvignon were donated to the Foundation, a wonderful non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling a favourite wish for children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. In 2011/2012, the Foundation fulfilled more than 1,100 wishes of Canadian children and their families. On Friday April 13, 2012, we were proud to present a cheque in the amount of $14,760 to Christie May of the Foundation. This is a very special project for both of us. It is not only gratifying to play a part in assisting children who are facing some of life’s most challenging circumstanc-es, but it is inspiring to do it in partnership with you. We want to thank each of you for supporting Coturo. In the days ahead, proceeds from both Coturo Cabernet Sauvignon and Coturo Amarone will be donated in support of a children’s charity. Your purchase truly makes a difference in the lives of children in need. For that, you have our gratitude and our deepest appreciation. Sincerely,Frank Romantini & John Turco

Riglos’s vineyards are located in the municipality of Tupungato in Uco Valley, 90 km from Mendoza city, in a large amphitheater embedded in the Andes Mountains. This area is considered the best for grape growing in Argentina, where altitude and slope of “The Finca Las Divas” guaranteed a unique quality of wines. The cellar’s agronomists control each step of the vine cycle with very high standards of quality applying and top technology. The agronomists and the enologists choose by care the harvest time. The Uco valley has many nuances and differential mesoclimatic landscapes, with 3 to 4 varied zones depending on the altitude and latitude. The Finca Las Divas vineyards have 72 hectares; 38 of which are implanted at an altitude of about 1250 –1350 m.a.s.l. One hectare has been kept for the winery construction. The soil is composed by sandy loam and gravy with a west-east slope of 3% that assures excellent angle of sun exposure and reduces frost risk.

DEL PLATA

Domino del Plata was founded in 1999 by Susana Balbo, the first woman enolo-gist in Argentina. Before establishing her own winery, Susana was hired to work in Cafayate, Salta to take over the develop-ment of Torrontes grape and made a unique Torrontes style. She also had the opportunity to work internationally and was the first Argentinean woman hired as a consultant to wineries worldwide in Spain, Chile, Italy, Brazil, Australia, and California. This experience allowed her to always be ahead of market trends and wine styles. The creation of Domino del Plata winery and their wines is for Susana her maximum achievement as a winemaker, product of all her efforts and so many years of hard work. She told that “the creation of my wines at Dominio del Plata is for me the consecration of all my efforts as a winemaker, the harvest of a lot of work during many years. For me this winery is like my third son, a dream comes true”.

The Correas family arrived in Mendoza

at the end of the 16th Century, and Mr.

Pedro Correas de Larrea married Mrs.

Beatriz de Videla, native of the province.

The viticulture history of the family be-

gan in 1860 with Don Segundo Correas,

who planted noble vines of French origin

and after built the first winery.

The actual Correas’s family directors

are respecting the artisan philosophy im-

posed on by their ancestors. They added

technological advances, new know-how

and modern facilities to optimize the

process of wine-making. The vineyards

and the winery are personally main-

tained by its owners, fourth generation

of this traditional family of wines, who

believe that the origin of the quality of

wines begins in the vineyards.

The winery has 225 liter barrels of

French oak from the forests of Alliers,

Vosgues and Troncais. The wines are

elaborated entirely with their own

grapes, which allow a precise handling of

the harvest and elaboration. The estate

has 400 hectares of vineyards, some of

which are 70 years old, distributed be-

tween 8 farms from 800 to 870 m.a.s.l..

Luis Segundo Correas’ vineyards and

winery participated in the international

and Argentine market with the brands:

Julián Correas, Luis Segundo, Valle Las

brands.

LE Coriole winery, managed by two

family members, Mark and Paul

Lloyd is situated in the undulat-

ing hills of the densely planted

McLaren Vale region just within

sight of the sea and less than an

hour from Adelaide. The original

farmhouse was built in 1860

and now is the epicentre of the

garden and cellar door at the win-

ery. The vineyards were planted

immediately after the First World

War. The vine of Shiraz is the ma-

jor variety planted on the estate

and it is also the great tradition

of McLaren Vale, going back over

150 years. The first wine released

was the 1970 Claret (Shiraz) and

in the 1985, Coriole became one

of the first Australian’s winery

to plant Italian vines varieties,

with the establishment of Neb-

biolo and Sangiovese among its

vineyards.

The soils are predominantly Terra

Rosa soils (over 80%) and are

shallow with red-brown earth

over hard capped limestone.

This soils tend to produce deeply

coloured red wines with good

structure and backbone that

show great capacity for ageing.

Since 1851, five generations of the

Bryson family have been involved

in agriculture in the fertile land

of South Australia. The winery is

located in the Padthaway valley

which is comprised of rich Terra

Rosa soils. The vineyards benefits

from excellent sun exposure which

consequently producing grapes of

optimum flavour, colour and tannin

development. The warm summer

days are moderated each evening by

coastal winds that cool the vines and

result in a longer ripening period.

This extended period allows for the

grape tannins and seed to fully ripen

prior to being harvested, thus creat-

ing wines that are rich and supple on

the palate.

They concentrate their energies and

skills on producing the classical

wines that are most recognised and

suited to the region’s viticulture: Shi-

raz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardon-

nay, Sauvignon Blanc.

Jip Jip Rocks winery is synonymous

with premium wines from South

Australia’s Padthaway wine region

being awarded over 80 medals in

International and Australian Wine

shows in recent years.

The vineyards at Padthaway are

planted on their own rootstock in

some of the world’s oldest mineral

rich soils and in the most temperate

of maritime climates.

Penmara Wines is an exciting addition to the Australian viticultural landscape. Created towards the end of 2000 and based in the Hunter Valley, this unique winery was formed when 5 family owned vineyards joined forces so as to gain greater control over our winemaking and distribution activities. The synergy of this new venture has resulted in their ability to consistently produce higher quality wines to satisfy the larger interna-tional and domestic markets.Based in the Hunter Valley of Australia, with vineyards also in Orange and surrounding areas, Penmara draws on almost 400 acres of vineyards with different climates and soil types. Another highlight of Penmara is its ability to source grapes from different vine-yards throughout the Hunter Valley and sur-rounding area, giving their winemaker, John Horton, a more diverse selection of fruit to choose from. Penmara’s wines range from the “Five Families” and “Reserve” ranges, which both offer premium, varietal wine at great value to the “Single Vineyard” range which is created to reflect the terroir or character of the specific vineyards.

Robert Oatley is a fifth-generation of

Australian who has built a diverse fam-

ily business that runs from vineyards,

wineries, cattle stations to thorough-

bred horses and luxury tourism. He

was also one of the first who let the

world knowing about Australian wines.

Between the 50s and 60s Bob Oatley

established his first Estate and produc-

ing his first commercial vintages in the

early 1970s. Bob stepped back from the

world of wine from 2005 to 2006, year

when began the winemaking company.

In March 2009 re-named his new wine

company Robert Oatley Vineyards.

Bob Oatley’s underlying philosophy

is to find the right vineyard with the

right soil and match it to the right

variety. The winery draws its grapes by

many of Australia’s leading regions.

The family vineyards are located in

Western Australia, South Australia and

in Mudge, in New South Wales where

is situated the family winemaking

home. This establishment dates back

to 1858 and is Mudgee’s oldest winery

and vineyard.

The first pair of Robert Oatley wines

was launched in Australia in 2007. In

Wakefield winery was founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor Snr, and his sons, Bill and John. The original Estate was built in the middle of 178 hectares near the Wakefield River in the Clare Valley. They were certain the soil red brown loam over limestone called today “terra rossa”, would prove conducive to crafting wines of the highest quality. From 2000 the managing director and winemaker is Mitchell Taylor who started to work at the winery since the 1980’s.

The winery’s aim is to achieve balance, el-egance and finesse in every wine and some-what uniquely when it comes to the style of their wines. The vineyards are located in the sub-region of Auburn, stretching through to the Watervale border. And with a vantage point some 350 meters above sea level, the area enjoys a ‘Mediterranean’ climate. This is characterized by a large contrast of warm days and cool nights. At Wakefield winery they know the impor-tance of family in making wine and for this reason are member, alongside twelve other winemaking families of Australia, of AFFW (Australia’s First Families of Wine). AFFW represent a cohesive voice for the mastery, passion and legacy that form the founda-tions of the Australian wine industry in order to encourage the future of Australian wine.

Antolino Brongo Estate was estab-

lished in 2007 to the idea of producing

a high quality ice cider from the

unique terroir of the province of Que-

bec. The first aim of the estate was to

produce a high end ice cider from the

indigenous varieties of apples that are

found in Québec.

The orchard of the estate is located

in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, in the region

of the Basses-Laurentides. The soil is

composed of glacial deposits on a light

slope of 3% oriented south-south-east,

ideal for the apple trees to grow. The

climate is one of the driest in all the

province of Québec.

The Cider is entirely produced with

the drying method. The apples are

ripe by the natural cold of the winter.

The apples varieties are Macintosh,

Cortland, Lobo, Spartan, Empire.

J. Bouchon story began in 1892 when Emile Bouchon, a native of Saint Emilion, in the French region of Bor-deaux settles in the Colchagua Valley in Chile with the dream of producing wines of excellence in the new world. During the years Emile’s descendant continue shaping with pride the fam-ily tradition. The winery is located in the Santa Maria de Mingre estate, in a modern facilities and has a capacity of 4 million liters. Their 370 hectares vineyards are located in two differ-ent areas, named Colchagua Valley (located in the Cañadilla estate) and Maule Valley. Maule Valley is located in a dry coastal region, about 30 km to the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Ma-ria Mingre, Santa Rosa, Las Mercedes and Batuco estates. The soils here are rocky and clayey which give grant el-egant and mineral notes to the wines. The Valley has also excellent climatic and soil conditions for the cultivation of the vine, which permits to obtain expressive wines, rich in aromas and fruity notes.J. Bouchon is looking forward to be a sustainable company, working to be environmental friendly, social equita-ble and economical viable. The annually wines production is about 250.000 cases.

The Bisquertt family, with an agricul-

tural tradition stretching back more

than 150 years, bought land in the

Santa Cruz area in the beginning of

this century. Mr. Hartwig and his wife

planted the first vineyards in 1979

as initial step of an ambitious long

term project to produce fine wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were the

first planted, since the results of the

wines were well known in the area.

After living in Canada for ten years,

Mr. Hartwig had realized there was

a growing demand abroad for other

varieties like Chardonnay and Merlot,

so these were also carefully selected

and planted, giving way to one of the

few vineyards in Chile with a pure

selection of these varieties.

In this wine region the four distinct

seasons throughout the year, the influ-

ences of the Pacific Ocean breeze, the

winds that descend from the Andes of

Colchagua and an average of 600 mm

of rainfall concentrated in the winter

months (May-September) make an

ideal place for growing grapes. The

period of growth and maturity of the

vine (October to April) found a wide

range of temperatures, with highs of

35 º C and minimum 13 º C favoring the

accumulation of aromatic compounds

and color in berries resulting in wines

of high quality.

Viña Falernia was founded in 1998 by

Aldo Olivier Gramola and his cousin

Giorgio Flessati, an oenologist who has

worked in the Trentino region, in Italy.

This is an innovative venture given that

Viña Falernia is Chile’s most northerly

wine estate, a considerable distance

from the country’s main wine-growing

areas.

Viña Falernia is located in the Elqui

Valley between La Serena and Vicuña,

520 km to the north of Santiago and

it is at present Chile’s northernmost

wine estate. The vineyards’ soils are

composed partly of rubble and partly of

alluvial sand.

The winery owns around 320 hectares

of vineyard, plus 100 hectares with long

term contracts. There are located in

different sites of the Elqui Valley, com-

prises between 350 to 600 m.a.s.l. and

with very different climate conditions.

They also owns an old vineyard called

“Huanta” who is a spectacular rocky val-

ley at an altitude between 1700 and 2070

Located in the heart of Alsace vine-yards, in Sigolsheim, northwest of Colmar, Domaine Sparr’s origin goes

back to 1680, as Jean Sparr was born. Under the influence of François Pierre Sparr in 1785 the vineyards were increased and generations later, Charles Sparr developed the business, increasing the activities on the area of trade and regarding

wine ageing. His son Pierre took the succession at the age of 20. His distinct sense for business made him a pioneer of the “estate bottling” of wines in Alsace.Bernard Sparr, the 9th generation of the house of Pierre Sparr, has made a serious Canadian connection. On the road hawking his stellar wines, he met a woman from Ottawa and married her. After living at various locations in Canada and the US from 1999 to 2001, they come back to Bernard original town, in Sigolsheim.Domaine Pierre Sparr works on 34 hectares of its own vineyards, in addi-tion to further 100 hectares supplied by well-experienced winegrowers. The glorious white wines of Pierre Sparr are on more solid ground. Alsace is a grow-ing niche now because people have a better understanding of how the wines go so beautifully with food.

TEYSSIER

Château Teyssier is situated in the heart of the renowned Bordeaux vineyards at Saint Emilion. The estate is a Saint Emilion Grand Cru that dates back to 1714. In 1994 Jonathan and Lyn Maltus bought Château Teyssier estate and the 5,5 hectares of the original vineyards was extend to over fifty. John Maltus bought in 1996 Le Dôme, a sandy soil with high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon vines. In 1998 he created Laforge, from various parcels with 92% of Merlot vine. John Maltus implemented also a program of renovation, bringing the technological advancements of the new world to the heart of the old, they introduced a new, ambi-tious team, constructed two state-of-the art wineries and a modern barrel-cellar and tripled the size of the vineyard. Jonathan Maltus, Neil Whyte, and Cyril Beziat, with Gilles Pauquet consulting, under-take winemaking and the vineyards are managed by Robert Fortin. The result of this collaboration is the production of exceptional quality wines ranging from the acclaimed Château Teyssier to the sought-after Le Dôme.

Billecart-Salmon was established in 1818 by Nicolas-François Billecart and until today it is one of the few remaining Champagne houses to be owned by the original family. Most of the fruit comes from a small vineyard, though this is supple-mented with grapes bought in from the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims. Meticulous production techniques, from the use of their own cultured yeast to its long, slow, cool fermentation, ensure that the family has 100% control of production. In order to best handle the reception of their harvests with minimal handling and travel, the family owns 4 press-houses. With respect to harvest, one of the most distinctive aspects of Billecart-Salm-on, is their philosophy that an early harvest yields more elegant and delicate champagnes. They look for a strong acid structure rather than alcohol as a preservative and there-fore, never harvest at higher than 10 degrees of potential alcohol.Champagne Billecart–Salmon is renowned for the quality of its delicate rosé, while the Brut Réserve (a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier vintages) is a beautifully harmonious and bal-anced wine.

E & FILS

Champagne MARGUET Père & Fils is located in Ambonnay, on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims region, still called “Cotes de Grands Noirs”, that literally mean-ing “The great black cote”, due to the exceptional local sub soil and climate for Pinot Noir grape variety. Ambonnay’s terroir is one of the most coveted in Champagne, among the 320 villages where vines are planted. Ambonnay is rated “Grand Cru” since 1935. In 2005 the ancient name of Marguet-Bonnerave House became Champagne MARGUET Père & Fils. The story of Champagne Marguet start in 1875, thanks to Emile MARGUET, who since 1883 has tended his best vineyards of the Côte des Blancs and the “Montagne de Reims”, in preparation for the arrival of phylloxera. They started selling its first Champagne bottles in 1905 by the great-great-grandfather of Benoit Marguet-Bonnerave. Cur-rent owner, Benoit MARGUET, also vineyard manager and winemaker is the 5th generation. Today they own vineyards in 4 Grands Crus villages: Ambonnay, Bouzy, Maily and Sillery.Champagne Marguet is at the fore-front of the best Champagne wines, being in conversion into biodynamic farming, ploughing vineyards with their own horses, and using 70% barrels for fermentations.

Since his childhood, Donatien Bahu-aud, had wandered throughout the area’s vineyards. His family were clog makers, coopers and grape growers, however he decided that he would become a winemaker. He founded DONATIEN BAHUAUD in 1929 and he travelled throughout the vineyard with his wines in oak vats loaded on a cart.Extremely attached to his native land, he pugnaciously acquired Chateau Cassemichere (that has been since sold), thought to be the cradle of Muscadet. In 1966 “Cuvée des Aigles” one of the first brands of Muscadet, is launched. In 1984 he launched a new brand: LE MASTER. This Muscadet on lees was unanimously praised by winegrowers for its superiority in terms of taste. Afterwards he paid homage to the Loire Valley by creating LA DIVA in the 1990s– a range of wines boasting sublime fruity characteristics.MAISON DES PRINCES wines offer a consistent quality and both regular and approachable style over the vintages, adapted to today’s consumer tastes. They are fruity, fresh and very aromatic.EXPRESSION DE LOIRE is a collec-tion of Appellations reflecting the richness, and the diversity of terroirs of the Loire Valley wines. They per-fectly express the winemaker talent. He selects the best « crus » with a spe-cial quest for the terroir authenticity.

The Grandes Serres range offers different lines to explore the Châteauneuf Appellation in all its complexity and diversity. The heart of the range is composed of a selection of AOC wines from the southern Rhone Valley, such as Gigondas, Lirac, Vacqueyras, with a point in common: that lit-tle touch of Grenache, particular to Grandes Serres. The Châteauneuf Appellation is literally dissected, with an approach either by variety or by soil: 3 products are available with one dominant variety (Grenache, Mourvèdre or Syrah) or soil (sand, pebbles, chalk). This range allows you to appreciate the prestigious AOC from a different angle and to analyse its complexity. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Grandes Serres Estate is the house’s flagship product.

Château de Laubade is situated in the heart of the Bas Armagnac region: the largest estate of the Appellation. It was in 1974 that Maurice Lesgourgues bought this 120 hectares’ property in the Bas-Armagnac. At the time, the property had only 40 hectares of vines. It is his son, Jean-Jacques Lesgourgues that ori-ented the property’s production towards Armagnac only. It has, since then with its 100 hectares of vines, become the largest producer of Armagnac and the benchmark for the Appellation.Today, the vineyard, facing the Pyrenees in the middle of the Bas-Armagnac “terroir”, is looked after by the 3rd family genera-tion, making it the noblest Armagnac of all.The traditional blends of Château de Laubade are the exclusively result of the property’s grapes and are entirely made of the 4 grape varieties: Ugni-Blanc, Baco, Colombard and Folle Blanche. The production, bounded to the year after year collecting of grapes, is limited to the es-tate’s surface, and is therefore controlled.

The origin of Farnese Vini began in 1582 when Princess Margherita d’Austria and her husband Ottavio Farnese bought the town of Ortona. As a sign of gratitude toward the one made their famous, the farmers held the name “Farnese” for their wines. The vineyards are located in the evocative valley of the Moro river, among the hills in the provinces of Chieti and Teramo, with an excellent exposition to the sun rays. The number of vines ranges from 2.500 to 3.500 per hectare. The vineyards are an average of 20 years old, with some older plots from 35 to 40. The cultivation of the vineyards is performed with the objective to value nature. In this regard, the least possible chemical treatment is given. The picking is done entirely by hand, choosing different kinds of grapes for each variety. After picking the grapes reach the cellars of Caldora Castle, a pre-cious place that they cared to restore and restructure in order to carry on the wine and history tradition. Farnese want to be sure the wines are aged in a stable’s way to the prestige that makes them leaders on the international markets.

The company is brand new and was built on the ashes of a local Vinegrowers’ Associa-tion (Basilium), that despite its excellent grapes did not survive the cost of the great investment made and also failed the market test because of its wines that were inexpensive but did not meet the clients ex-pectations as far as quality was concerned, despite the advanced technology of the winery and quality of the grapes. Nowadays at the new winery in the town of Acerenza, in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture production area, we make top qual-ity wines from selected vineyards that have all been certified organic. The key to success is all in the territory which is:

-unpolluted- rich in minerals because of its volcanic ori-gin, that give more complexity to the wines- The vineyards are situated as high as 800 mt which helps bring to the wines great complexity and fine aromas especially to white wines.

The winemaking team is headed by the young, talented winemaker Dennis Verdec-chia and experienced consultant Alberto Antonini that we have been working with at our wineries in Abruzzo and Campania.

Manimurci was founded by a group of friends who share a passion for wine, who passed on by their parents, as their parents, in turn had passed it on to them, inevitably perhaps as wine has been produced at Paternopoli for a long time. Paternopoli is situated at the heart of Irpinia in the centre of Campania region. The owner do particular attention to the outstanding quality of the grapes and to the use of advanced wine-making technology such as: micro-oxygenation, fermentation at controlled temperatures, cold process microbiological stabilisation equipment, and obsessively check the wine-making process. The checks begin with the vine itself, from pruning to harvesting and continue in the winery where the grapes arriving in trays are placed onto a belt so that a visual inspection can take place, in addition to laboratory controls. The same attention is given willingly, at all stages of the wine-making process right up until it is bottled when each bottle will be checked and each bottle will be rinsed out with wine, by hand. All this attention and pas-sion in order to obtain an excellent and unique product.

This renowned distillery, located in the heart of the province of Friuli, in northern Italy, was founded after World War II by the Master Distiller Bepi Tosolini. He began with the transformation of grappa, a distilled spirit, into a preferred product for the most refined palates. Bepi was also the first in Italy to use ash wood barrels for aging grappa, which in his opinion has the potential to capture all of the aromas of the distillate. Another innovation that has made him a patriarch of the still has been the invention of special steam stills featuring manual controls, which are still used by the company today. These stills transport the alcoholic vapors to the top of the device, thereby preserving the perfumes and aromas of the grapes. The original recipe of Tosolini distilled spirits will never be revealed to anyone outside of the members of this family and it has passed down from one generation to the next. The company is still run entirely by the Tosolini’s family. From Giovanni, who now heads the company, to his grandchildren Giuseppe, Bruno and Lisa involved in the company’s sales, market-ing and production activities.

The Cormons winery was founded in 1960 thanks to the sightedness of some Cormons wine growers, who want to hand down a valuable centuries traditions. The Cormon presidents sustained right from the beginning that the future of the vines and of the wine was connected to the tenacious development of the territory. They produces its wines from grapes drawing on to the five D.O.C. areas of Friuli Venezia-Giulia: Gorizia Collio, Isonzo, Eastern Hills of Friuli, Aquileia and Karst. Here the vines have been grown for thousands of years, with white wines of exceptional quality and tasty red wines, comparable to the best in the world. The climate is mild and temperate mitigated by the influ-ence of the nearby Adriatic Sea and protected by the peaks of the “Giulie Alps”. The partners which are part of “Cantina Produttori Cormons” own 413 hectares of vineyards. Of these, 303 hectares are cultivated with white grapes and 110 with reds.

Fantinel was founded in 1969 by “Paron” Mario thanks to the passion and the enthusiasm of a true entrepre-neur, capable of foresight and being one step ahead of market trends. Three generations and forty-year of history have transformed a small winery into a major company on the Friuli wine-growing scene. In 1973 Mario’s sons, Luciano, Gianfranco and Loris help father to expand the family’s land as-sets with new and precious vineyards in the Collio, Grave and Colli Orientali del Friuli D.O.C. areas. This has led to collections of wines of superior quality, wines that stand out even on the vast world scene, distinctive as a correct compromise between the historic wine-growing tradition in Friuli and the drive towards innovation which today is manifest in the strong and firmly rooted passion. Today, the estate boasting 300 hectares of prized vine-yards is a genuine expression of prime winegrowing country with perfect microclimates for the ideal ripening of the grapes.

I Spirit Vodka project was born in 2009, from the collaboration between renowned restaurateur Arrigo Cipriani of Harry’s Bar, the enterprising Lapo Elkan, Friuli wine producer Fantinel and the Venetian entrepreneur Franc-esco Cosulich. This exceptional Vodka is the result of a skillful, traditional distillation applied to a selection of famous ingredients. The recipe known by the ancient distillers of the area was wisely passed down from father to son. I Spirit Vodka is made from the distillation of the finest cereals and select white wine obtained from the world-renowned wine producing regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. The distil-late is brought to 40 alcoholic degrees through the addition of crystal clear water from the mountains of Dolo-mites, subsequently is filtered on active carbons to obtain an absolute level of purity. Finally, the vodka is refrigerated to minus 18 degrees centigrade and then filtered one last time.

Cesari Company was founded by Gerardo Cesari in 1936. The vineyards are located in the gentle hills of the Lake of Garda in Verona province, as S. Pietro in Cariano where 40 company-owned hectares give birth to the Amarone. In the early sixties Franco, Gerardo’s son, became directly involved in the company. The range of classics like Amarone, Valpolicella, Bardolino and Soave was extended to include other vines of international renown, all coming from 100 hectares of vine-yards, partly owned by the company and in partly by other winegrowers who operate under the careful con-trol of Cesari’s agronomists. The primary objective of Cesari winery is the satisfaction of its cus-tomers. It is therefore committed to assuring that every activity helps to promote quality by involving all employees and associates in the ongoing upgrading of products, processes and services.

The Velenosi winery was established in 1984, thanks to the will of two young entrepreneurs: Angela and Ercole Velenosi. After having operated for

many years in the wine sector they decided to create a winery with state-of-the-art and advanced equipment and produce

excellent wines. The winery is located in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche Region. They own about 100 hectares of vineyards under vine with clones selected in the province of Ascoli Piceno and 45 hectares at San Marcello province of Ancona. Thanks to a clayey and fertile soil with excel-lent exposure they produce some of the top wines in this area. Each wine is monitored and controlled right from bottling. The winery is with modern equipment and two full time enologist and a consultant, Dr. Attilio Pagli, one of the most famous in Italy. Velenosi incorporates innovation such as their pressing methods while respecting tradition to create some truly wonderful wines. They believe that the success of a project starts with a perfect knowledge of customer expectations and that is why they carry out ongoing research into the tastes of consumers in the various countries.

At the end of 19th century Aurelio Set-timo’s parents built an old farmhouse settled in the Annunziata in the heart of the Barolo wine-growing area. Until 1962 the grapes were sold to big local wineries, and just a small amount remained for the family to produce wine for themselves. The first Aurelio Settimo’s label was introduced during 1962 and from them the family has continued to maintain a traditional product line, in particular as regards Barolo. Since the death of Aurelio (March 2007) production and sales have been handled by his daughter Tiziana, who has learned all about wine from him.The clayey and calcareous soil of the “Rocche dell’Annunziata” combines with its altitude (approx. 270 m. a.s.l.) and position (south - south-west) are ideal to produce Barolo, a full body, soft and very fragrant wine made with Nebbiolo grapes. The estate’s property is composed by Nebbiolo on 5.67 hectares and Dolcetto in the remaining 0.97 hectares. Neb-biolo’s vineyards lie facing South – South West on what is considered to be one of the finest “Cru”. The planting density is about 4,500-5,000 vines per hectare and the average annual production is about 40.000 bottles.

The Bersano’s history began at the turn of the 1800’s under the direction of Gi-uesppe Bersano. In 1935 Arturo Bersano became the winemaker. He was a lawyer by profession but his great passion was the art of winemaking. Arturo is a pioneer and a man with great intuition. His strong moral values and work ethic have made him a perfectionist in attain-ing only the best quality of wines. The winery is located in Nizza Monferrato, in the heart of Asti District, which is a suitable area for Barbera. They are the largest private vine-grower company in Piedmont, own over 230 hectares between Langhe and Monfer-rato, in the best “Cru” areas. Bersano’s priority is that of top production and remains true to the Bersano name, for this reason a team of talented and ex-periences enologists dedicate great care and passion to grapes selection. The acquisition of the vineyards in Nizza Monferrato came through the efforts of Arturo, beginning with those suitable for Barbera D’Asti and soon to follow Barolo, Barbaresco and Gavi. In more recent times completing the vineyards came with the acquisition of Brachetto and Moscato.

Contratto was the first winery in Italy to make vintage “Metodo Mlassico” sparkling wine. In 150 years of winemaking, Con-tratto went from producing Moscato and red wine to Spumante Metodo Classico. In the 1920s and 1930s, Contratto bubbles were requested to the Vatican and the royal houses of Europe. In fact, the wines were exported to the far corners of the British Empire to be enjoyed by ambas-sadors and colonial governors.Their historic cellars were designated as UNESCO Heritage Site, covering more than 5,000 square meters. There were built into the heart of the hill in order to protects the small town of Canelli. They were excavated from tuff limestone to a depth of 32 meters. The project took three years of manual work to finish. Today these cellars maintain a constant annual temperature of 12 to 13 degrees and sufficient natural humidity; it is an ideal environment for bottle fermentation and the slow and steady bottle maturation of “Metodo Classico” sparkling-wines.Since June 2011 Contratto is officially in the hands of “La Spinetta” winery. With sparkling wine made from its own fruit, Contratto’s ultimate goal is to prove that Northern Italy has the soil and climate to make Spumante wines that rival the top sparkling wines of the world.

The Monfalletto estate boasts a centuries-old history. Its beginnings date back to April 3, 1340, when Pietrino Falletti became the owner of the com-mune of La Morra, which was made possible by a loan granted by the commune of Alba. The La Morra property, however, was held con-tinuously through 16 generations, from 1340 until the Countess Luigia Falletti di Rodello passed away in 1941.

When one branch of the family tree ended, the property was passed down to the closest eligible heir Paolo Cordero di Montezemolo, the grandson of the Countess, and father of the cur-rent owner Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo, who together with his children Elena and Alberto still continue to personally manage the vineyards and take care of the fruit. The Monfalletto estate in the district of An-nunziata was already listed on topographical maps and early land registers from as far back as the middle ages. Today, the property consists of 28 continuous hectares that are being cultivated in every direction around the buildings situated on the hilltops. The vines, which produce the traditional local grape varieties (Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Arneis), possess an exclusive and highly desirable location, as well as plants of considerable age and a unique and complex subsoil.

Year after year, this prized stretch of land works silently to produce some of the wines that have made Piedmont famous all over the world.

The winery and the farm, following several years of restoration and expansion, is today a perfect symbol and example of integrated architecture, where an age-old, traditional structure merges seamlessly and elegantly with modern innova-tion.The soil has always been cultivated by the family using the most effective cultivating techniques while trying to be as least invasive as possible in order to preserve the biodiversity of the land and provide a healthy and ideal environment for those who work and compete for the final quality of the products. Consequently, only fertilizers of organic origin are in managing vine disease. Natural mineral products are used and land is managed with mechanical soil working (plowing, ripping, scarification, mowing and natural grassing) to promote natural sustain-ability for the local ecosystem.

“La Spinetta” is actually composed by three wineries. In 1977 was founded the original cellar by Giuseppe and Lidia Riv-etti, surrounded by 70 hectare of Moscato and Barbera d’Asti vineyards, located in Castagnole Lanze. Today it’s the heart of their Moscato, Barbaresco and Barbera Cà di Pian production. In 2000 they bought 8 hectares vineyards of the second cellar, in the municipality of Grinzane Cavour, an area with extraordinary micro-climate, soil and vineyard exposure where is produced the Barolo Campè. In 2001 “La Spinetta” expanded over the borders of Piedmont and acquired 65 hectares vineyards in Tuscany, between Pisa and Volterra, where they grow Sangiovese, the ambassador of the Tuscan terrain and Colorino, another Tuscan indigenous grape variety. The vineyards are treated with the utmost care and respect, by using no, or the least possible amount of chemicals and by keeping their production relatively small per hectare. Three times every summer they cut the still green grapes to reduce production quantity and to maximize quality. Not having inherited their land through generations of winemakers, their vineyards were carefully selected; all have south, south-east or south-west exposure.

In 1986 brothers Bruno and Gianni Ciravegna founded Tenuta Rocca with the purchase of the Ornati vineyards, its 18th century farm-house and winery. The estate is located in the heart of Langhe, at Monforte d’Alba in Ornati Italy and the property encompasses 25 acres. The vineyards planted with Char-donnay, Barbera, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo have been modernized and are now producing wines truly symbolic of the Alba and Langhe regions.More than a decade was spent re-storing the property with the broth-ers enlisting the help of agronomist Gian Piero Romana and renowned enologist Piero Ballario. All of this hard work has resulted in distin-guished reviews by Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Decanter and Hugh Johnson.

Cantele is a family run winery located in the heart of Apulia, the land of Ne-groamaro and Primitivo. It was founded in 1979, when Gianni Cantele after ten years of wine business experience, decided to open a new winery under the family name, together with his sons Augusto and Domenico. In 2003, to meet the growing demand for its wines in Italy and abroad, they opened a new state-of-the-art winery between the Village of Fra Guagnano and Salice Salentino (the best growing zone in Puglia).Today, the Cantele family owns 50 hec-tares planted to vine and the current win-emaker Gianni Cantele (one of Augusto’s sons) and the agronomist Cataldo Ferrari manage another 150 hectares. The annu-ally average yield is about 70 quintals per hectare while instead the wine produc-tion is approximately of 2 million bottles. The vineyards are located about 100 meters above sea level, on limestone, clay and siliceous soil. The wind influences and Mediterranean sea proximity create a favorable thermal range where overall a much cooler microclimate is usually as-sociated with these latitudes. Additional, thanks to the sun their vineyards growth with excellent high sugar content.

The Feudi San Marzano winery was founded in 2003 by two established and renowned wineries: “Cantine San Marzano” and “Farnese Vini”. From the beginning their goal was to build the leading company in Puglia for the quality of its products. In the up and coming wine region of Pug-lia, this cellar is the most modern winery existing in Puglia. Located in the heart of the Primitivo D.O.C. of Manduria, the vineyards are planted with some of the oldest vines in all of Italy (80+ years). The wines are produced from low yield-ing vineyards and are thus very high in quality. The winery is built more than 18 meters below ground in the rock and is therefore optimum for the development of the wines. With a view to continuous improve-ment of quality, Feudi di San Marzano has made multi-year monitoring and upgrading of its 500 hectares vineyards with a selection of the best plots and a standardization of agronomic practices for a global raising of grape’s quality.

A family becomes a dynasty: they are the Florio, Sicilians, producing a wine that becomes an international trend, the Marsala. But Florio’s fame does not stop there. Banks, hotels, publishing, and the “Targa Florio”, a car race which makes known the whole of Europe the beautiful landscape of Madonie.Florio is today one of the historic cellars of Sicily, was founded in 1883 by entre-preneur Vincenzo Florio, who is building a plant for the production of Marsala wine over an area of 100,000 square me-ters. Today, as then, the wines continue to be produced and aged in cellars dug into the tufa magnificent. The wineries stretch over 20,000 square meters and maintain a constant temperature throughout the year, approximately 5,000,000 gallons of Marsala wine contained in Slavonian oak barrels and kegs typical. Marsala wine is Italy’s most famous version of fortified wine. The high sugar content grapes are pressed in order to pass the precious substance found in the skins to the must. The grapes are fermented at controlled temperature and liquored with the addi-tion of Mistella, Mosto Cotto and Wine Distillate to the wine. After, the wine age 30 months in oak casks and vats, and 3 months in bottle.

The vineyards cover a hundred hectares of hills of an altitude between 200 and 500 meters above sea level. Thanks to altitude, north wind, sea breezes, calcareous and clayey soil this area is particularly suitable for good quality vines growth. The winery is a modern efficient structure in a perfect Sicilian archi-tectural style. In recent years, in fact, it was modernized the structures and techniques in line with the needs of the actual market but in a way who strength the ties between production and this unique territory. Today Fazio winery is one of the most modern and dynamic in the whole of Sicily.

Vigneti Zabù is a fairly young winery set up 5 years ago in the town of Sambuca di Sicilia, one of the most noble areas for Sicil-ian vinegrowing. The vineyards are situated in the hills above lake Arancio, the water of this lake is a vital nourishment for the vineyards during the hot Summer months and allows the grapes to reach the perfect ripening. The winery is a local vinegrowers’ Associa-tion and an exclusive partner of ours, but very often in Southern Italy Associations like these have wonderful vineyards and up to date tecnology but know very little about markets and consumers’ tastes and have very few business skills.Last year Zabù became part of the Farnese Group, fulfilling the strategic alliance previously formed with Can-tina Cellaro, the whole project headed by winemaker Filippo Baccalaro who had started it all 5 years ago. Recently the winery has set up a new programme of selection of the vineyards to try to further improve the excellent quality of the wines.

“Castello di Querceto” winery is located in the northeastern side of the Chianti Classico area, in a small valley in the comune of Greve in Chianti. From 1897 the castle is property of the François family which moved from France to Tuscany during the XVIII century. Early last century, Carlo François bought the estate and in 1924 he was one of the 33 founded members of the “Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico”. In 1978 Ales-sandro, Carlo’s grandson, has entered in the estate management and from the beginning his aim was to raise the characteristics and the potentialities of the different grapes varieties cultivated in different conditions.Alessandro François following a limited yield production, it goes from 45 to 50 hectolitres per hectare for the Chianti Classico and from 35 to 40 for the “crus”. The cultivation’s aim is to obtain the best quality maintaining an ecologic produc-tion, for this reason they prefer using organic fertilizers instead of the chemical ones and therefore fighting phytopa-thology in a natural and integral way. The vineyards are located between 400 and 530 metres above sea level and were mostly planted between 1975 and 1985.

The present owner is Mr. Giovanni Bat-tista d’Orsi, an agronomist and enologist. He oversees all wine making processes personally, starting from the gathering of grapes, up to the refinement in French oak casks. Fattoria Casaloste employs exclusively organic methods of farming, as certified by the ICEA (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certifica-tion), an organic farming guild. The aim of Giovanni d’Orsi is to produce sublime Chianti. The use of French Oak allows finding a good balance between the oaky taste and fruit, giving to the final product a harmony of sensations both in taste and smell.Casaloste’s wines are the result of three rules: low quantity production per hectare, supervising the quality of grapes during growing and harvest and continuous monitoring of fermentation, wine-making, and maturing meth-ods. The Fattoria Casaloste stretches for nearly 19 hectares of vineyards, in which the prevailing grape is Sangiovese that covers the 90% of the vines. They produce an average of 60.000 bottles of wines per year.

Founded in 1860 by Angelo Grigolli the winery is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Trentino region, with its modern approach and traditional val-ues. Concilio`s motto is: makes quality wines with style and personality.Concilio is comprised of three modern wineries. The grapes are crushed and the juice vinified in the main cellar of Trento. Here the most up to date equipment is available to cater for the needs of individual grape varieties, such as pneumatic presses, refrigera-tion units and stainless steel tanks to the controlled temperature fermenta-tion. Maturation and bottling take place in the cellars at Volano, where the company headquarters are located. All Reserve, Selection and Single Vineyard wines are made in the third winery of Concilio, located at Casteller, in the southern outskirts of Trento. From 620 hectares of its own vineyards situated between 200 and 800 metres above sea level, Concilio produces some 600.000 cases each year. The large differences in microclimate, soils and altitude in this region, make it possible to produce a very broad range of wines and styles, of which each va-riety grows in conditions ideally suited to its needs.

Castelli del Grevepesa was established in 1965 by a small group of 18 winegrowers from Tuscany. Their aim was to create a solid organisation which united in a single shared project several people from the vari-ous territories of Chianti Classico, in order to maintain intact the age-old traditions of Tuscan winegrowing, of the territory and of the farming customs. Since its foundation, the producers have pursued the aim of yield high quality wines in observance of the strict laws and bylaws of the Gallo Nero Consortium, carrying out the meticulous selection of the grapes.Castelli del Grevepesa is the leading pro-ducer of Chianti Classico in terms of quan-tity and quality as well. All the member estates of Castelli del Grevepesa, approxi-mately 150, are scrupulously monitored by agronomists during the year and during the grape harvest, who are responsible for verifying the state of the vineyards on the basis of the seasonal trend. The Castelli del Grevepesa is the only one company in the world that can present such an articulate range of Chianti terroir produced com-pletely from the grapes to the bottles.

Dievole story arises very long time ago, in 1090 when Dievole’s first two vintners pay six “Denari Lucchesi”, two capons and three loaves of bread for the promise of the divine: the yearly rent for a vineyard of Dieulele. The viticulture in this area dates back to the 11th century.Today Dievole’s property is extended in 400 acres of land, where just 85 of which are planted in vines. The first step taken to cultivate this genetic legacy was to revisit the past found in the historical memory of the farming families. New masters of wine-growing were brought in to counter environ-mental uniformity and monotony. All evaluations, from selecting mother vine stock and clones to vintage plan-ning and innovation in vineyards and wine cellar, are determined by one single objective: uplifting standards in the hope of creating a good wine through character and quality.

In 1961, when the name Chianti was being most overused, a group of 17 winegrowers established a new associa-tion with the intention of enhancing the reputation of Chianti wine show why Tuscan vineyards are part of an inter-national elite. The vineyards of the 200 growers of the “Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico” are located in the most pres-tigious Tuscan production zones. They cover 571 hectares (1410 acres) of which 486 hectares (1200 acres) are registered as D.O.C.G., the highest legal designation of quality for ltalian wine. The aim of “Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico” is to produce wines by re-specting tradition and history in order to produce wines which personify their individual growing zones and at the same time satisfy the consumer’s tastes and expectations. They have always focused on maintaining the excellence of the territory of origin of their products, by constantly pursuing the quality of the various denominations that they produce and which are acknowledged by the market, enhancing its value with a distri-bution system capable of capitalising on the work performed.“Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico” is actually composed by four brands: Geografico, Castello di Tricerchi, Borgo alla Terra and Le Preselle.

E Gualdo del Re is located in Suvereto, a small medieval area in the province of Livorno, 20 km from the sea where surrounding hills enclose the area to form an amphitheatre in the splendid Val di Cornia. Under the Lombards, the Val di Cornia was ruled by the Dukes of Lucca and was part of the Gualdo del Re mentioned by Pope Gregory VII in the document defining the boundaries of the diocese of Massa Marittima. The word Gualdo, which derives from the German term Wald, is used to refer to a stretch of wooded land, and was later used to indicate a special area reserved exclusively for the use of the owner. As Falchi states, “In fact, the Gualdo del Re in the Val di Cornia was a vast area which featured the most beautiful and attractive aspects of Maremma. The farm’s vineyards and olive groves cover an area of 40 hectares. The vines are on hill slopes 100 meters above sea level. The poor fertility of the stony loam, the abundance of sunlight and the special microclimate, make Suvereto an ecologi-cal area for the production of full bodied wines. The grape vines are grown in the traditional way, with a very low density of plants; there are 6,500 vine stocks per hectare.

La Gerla winery was founded in 1976 by Sergio Rossi. It’s a small winery which produces just four type of wines, one Extra Virgin Olive Oil and one grappa of Brunello di Montalcino; for a total amount of 70.000 bottles per year. La Gerla is situated at 320 metres above sea level, on the gentle slopes below Montalcino, in the municipality of Canalicchio in the heart of Tuscany. This small wine estate has established itself as one of the great Cru in this area, delineated by the Orcia and Ombrone valleys. The estate is composed by 11.5 hectares of vineyards, located in two different areas, both within the confines of Montalcino territory: Canalicchio (north east) and Castelnuovo dell’Abate (south east). La Gerla cellar can therefore draw Sangiovese grapes from different holdings, which lie on opposite sides of the hill of Montal-cino. The only one grown grape variety is Sangiovese Grosso. The dry and cool summer microclimate al-lows progressive and slow grapes matura-tion that builds elegant, intense and noble fragrances in wines.

The Podere la Marronaia is own by Dei family since 2000 when they bought the estate consisting in an old house and lands cultivated with olives and grapes. Each family’s member has been directly involved in the renovation of the house. From the beginning they decided to join the organic system for the cultivation of grapes and olives. Two years after the winery purchased, the family gathered the first fruits, they started to com-mercialize the products in bottles, starting with extra virgin olive oil and the typical wines of the area: Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti Colli Senesi. Over the past few years they have added four more wines using mainly autochthonous grapes vines of the territory.

For over a century the Pertimali estate has been held by the Sassetti family and from the beginning they has been producing wine in their properties called Montosoli hill which is one of Montalcino’s prime cru and also one of the most favourable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. The prop-erty owns 16 hectars of vineyards, 12 destined to the production of Brunello di Montalcino. Livio Sassetti has renovated and extended the vineyards, retaining the genetic material of the original vines and preserving their characteristics. In 1967 he is among the founders of Consortium of Brunello di Montalcino. In 1999 The Sassetti family purchased a property in the Tuscan Maremma, La Querciolina, within the DOC Montecucco. Today, both wineries are managed by Lorenzo Sassetti, Livio’s son, who is focused in continuing his family’s winemaking tradition.

The history of Podere Poggio Scalette started in 1991 when Vittorio Fiore and his wife Assjè di Marcorà acquired sev-eral plots of land on the hills of Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico Appellation. The estate was enlarged in 1996 with the addition of an adjacent property endowed with functional cellars and ample working spaces that creating, with this acquisition, a 40 hectare property sub-divided, where only 15 hectares are planted with vines. The vineyards of Podere Poggio Scalette are located in a strip of land between 350 and 550 m.a.s.l. The property takes its name from the configuration of the hillside slopes, characterized by lovely dry stone walls which sustain terraces of varying sizes. On these terraces vines and olive trees are planted according to the characteristics of the soil; seen from afar they give the impression of a series of staircase steps which climb the slopes of the hill of Ruffoli. In a portion of this land, called “Carbonaione” are planted Sangiovese vines that have reached the age of 80 years. These are a rare and almost unique example of Tuscan wine of this age which consists mainly of one component of the large family of Sangiovese, known as “San-giovese di Lamole”.

The Poggio Maestrino’s estate covers 20 hectares at an altitude that ranges from 350 to 450 m.a.s.l., in the most prestigious wine area of Maremma. This celebrated area in the south of Toscany is dedicated to the production of Morellino di Scansano. The history of Poggio Maestrino and its territory, embeds its roots in the Etruscan-Roman period. Starting from the late eighteenth century, the municipalities around Scansano have been submitted to a considerable demographic rise, extend-ing the perimeters of the residential areas. This phenomenon has a fundamental role in the subsequent wine-growing develop-ment of the entire Maremma, a farming practice which continues to rise over the centuries until the boom of the Morellino di Scansano. Today this red wine is one of the most prestigious of the region, ratified in 1992 by the foundation of the Protection Consortium and starting from the 2007 vintage with the recognition of the DOCG production regulations. The vines of Poggio Maestrino are grafted into a ground which is rather rocky, gravely, shallow and arid. These are characteristics highly suited to vine cultivation. The winery average production is 70.000 bottles per year.

Poggio al Tesoro was founded in 2001and it’s a partnership between Allegrini, the leading wine producer in the Valpolicella area, and Leonardo Lo Cascio, a well-known entrepreneur in the distribution of fine Italian wines throughout the United States. The cellar is located in the comune of Castagneto Carducci where in 1994 was established the Bolgheri D.O.C. appellation. Due to the particular characteristics of the soil and micro climate sunny, dry and moderately windy, the grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in this region grow well and thrive. The estate owns 70 hectares in differ-ent vineyard sites, this allows for a dif-ferent combination of grapes and mi-croclimates and therefore to produce wines that express the full potential and elegance of the Bolgheri terroir, with additional complexity and depth. One of the main projects undertaken at Poggio al Tesoro was the study of the Estate’s soil type and climate, so that only the vines planted were those most suited to the microclimatic conditions.

The historic roots of the Rocca di Castag-noli estate dates back as far as the Early Middle Ages, in fact have been found a series of document concerns the sale of a holding called Stielle, which today is one of the vineyard on the Estate. In the 1700’s, under the management of the Tempi family, Castagnoli was one of the most celebrated estates in the area. At the end of 1800’s Castagnoli property passed to the Ricasoli family. In 1924 the Rocca di Castagnoli, together with other distinguished wineries of the areas, founds the Consortium of the Clas-sic Chianti wine. In 1982 the estate was settled by the cur-rent ownership and has undergone impor-tant extensive renovations. It has been also introduced modern winemaking practices in the vineyards and cellars. The village of Castagnoli rises in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, nestled among woods, vineyards, olives and rows of cypress trees. Today, the Estate produces, under the watchful eye of win-emaker Maurizio Alongi, roughly 200,000 bottles per year of premium wines from the 90 hectares of vineyards belonging to the property with altitudes that range from 380 to 860 m.a.s.l..The clones of Sangiovese have been the object of careful research conducted with University institutes: 134 clones have been analysed, then reduced to 19 and finally to 4. Among these, for the production of Chianti Classico they use their own clone of Sangiovese.

Moreover they do not use chemical fertilizer, but only organic. Pes-ticides treatments are effected only with copper sulphate and sulphur (the most ancient and natural products always used in viticulture). The idea behind San Polo was to maximize the potential of terroir, so as improve the quality of Montalcino’s wines. The winery own 4.6 hectares of vineyards entirely dedicated to produces Brunello di Montalcino who are trained according to the spurred cordon method (4.464 plants per hectare), and the exposure is south south-east. The Estate is located in the centre of Castellina in Chianti, an area highly suited to the production of the best red Tuscan wines. The tufaceous sands alternating with classic clayey soils give very good grapes ripening that confer great power, structure and elegance to the wines of this area. The farm is composed of 123 hectares with altitudes that range from 280 to 330 meters above sea level. The vine-planted land, all Classic Chianti, amounts to 45 hectares and another 10 hectares are reserved for cultivating olive trees. The total average production is 150.000 bottles per year. The winery only makes two wines: Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva. Both are made with grapes from 25 year old vines, fermented in stainless steel and then aged in oak barrel for 15 months. With a further 6 months in bottle prior to release for the Classico and 12 months for the Classico Reserva.

Terrabianca winery was established in 1988-89 when Roberto Guldener and his family moved from Switzerland to the municipality of Radda in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. He started makes wines in 1988 with the grapes of the old vines and step by step he plant-ed the new vines. The estate is com-posed by 124 hectares with calcareous soil and strata of chalk, sand and clay; ideal for top-quality grape growing. The vineyards are surrounded by olive groves and woods, and lie at altitudes between 250 and 500 meters above sea level, with ideal exposures (south and southeast). The grapes varieties are Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mer-lot, Canaiolo, Chardonnay, Malvasia and Trebbiano Toscano and produce a total of 350.000 bottles a year. Almost in 1998 they acquired a second property, “Il Tesoro”, consisting in 106 hectares in the mineral-rich Marem-ma, now increasingly fashionable in the wine world. Beside growing superb Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes this estate have got 4,000 olive trees, which are over 350 years old, yielding unbelievable extra virgin olive oil.

Jackson Estate embodies the very best of Marlborough, New Zealand, the essence of sauvignon blanc. The Jackson family came to New Zealand from England, in 1842. In 1855 Adam Jackson bought the first blocks of land in the heart of the Marlborough region, along what would become known as Jacksons Road. The famous gum tree (today stands over 140 feet tall) that graces the Jackson Estate label was planted in 1867 by Adam’s wife Alice. John Stichbury is the fifth generation of the Jackson family to farm this land. In 1987 John and Jo planted the first vines and the first wines were released in 1991 under the Jackson Estate label. They own vineyards in five different areas but all located in the Marlborough wine region. Their annual wines production figures are commercially sensitive, but they use only fruit grown is estate owned or managed vineyards and is a small/medium sized Marlborough producer. The average daily temperature is lower than either as the sunny ripening season extends into April, with cool nights helping to preserve acid-ity. These conditions combined with low rainfall over the growing season contribute to the unique flavours of their wines.

Conceito is located in the Douro Port wine has traditionally monopolized wine production since the 18th cen-tury. Only recently have people begun to understand the enormous potential of the Eastern Douro.Conceito’s family roots go back to the early communities that populated the Alto Douro, in medieval times. The brothers Luís and José da Costa Ferreira were the ones who, in the 70`s and 80’s, gave a new dimension to the agriculture practised and at the same time extending the family assets. Conceito winery arises in the 90s, when the current owner, Carla Costa Ferreira, took over the reins of the company and rehabilitated old vines that nobody wanted. In 2005 Conceito opened the new winery under the ae-gis of Carla’s daughter, oenologist Rita Ferreira Marques, one of Portugal’s young and upcoming winemakersAt Conceito Estate the vines are culti-vated using only traditional methods with any herbicides. When fertilizer is required, they use vegetable compost. All of the work in the vineyard is performed by hand and carefully monitored.

The husband and wife tandem of Alfredo Gómez-Torres and Silvia Mora-Figueroa acquired the Dehesa de Luna estate in 1996. They intro-duced a programme of investment and improvement which included planting vineyards, olive and almond trees, along with ambitious reforestation plans. Cur-rently, Bodega Dehesa de Luna is made up of three vineyards, covering a surface area of 82 hectares: El Viñazo, La Mata de la Culebra and La Cañada del Navajo. Given to the success of the initial plant-ing and the quality of the harvest, the production of a wine that reflects the nature of these vines was a natural progression in the long winemaking tradition of this family. Certainly the geographical and climatic characteris-tics of the Dehesa de Luna estate have a positive influence on the ripening process of the grapes, increasing antho-cyanin concentration and prolonging the ripening period, which enhances the aromatic complexity of the grapes. The winery hires Ignacio de Miguel as production supervisor, who is one of Spain’s leading winemakers and recently recognized as Winemaker of the Year by “Sibaritas” Wine Magazine.

Bodegas Altanza was founded in 1998 by a group of businessmen, it is a 320 hectares estate located in Fuenmayor Rioja Alta. Since the beginning its aim has always been to offer quality wine at a reasonable price and produce the best grape of Tempranillo. Today they are exclusively focused on producing quality red wines from Rioja Appellation using Tempranillo as the only red grape variety.More than 200 estate’s hectares are as-signed to grape-growing and 70 hectares are planted with olive trees. They do a manual up keeping of the vineyards. Spur and cane pruning and clearing are made every year to ensure a reduced yet optimum grape production. At the same time they control an important part of the production of Fuenmayor and sur-roundings, where they purchase another amount of Tempranillo grapes. These grapes are provided by experienced vine growers, who have been working for Bodegas Altanza since the beginning. The winery maintains a vertical pressing method when making the wine; as well as the choice of the autochthonous variety as the only one when making their wines. Remarkable is the fact of getting the wooden vats back in order to produce high quality wines.

Celler Piñol is a family owned cellar located in Batea, Terra Alta, the most southern region of Catalonia. It is situ-ated at 500 meters above sea level, in a beautiful and suggestive Mediterranean landscape rich in grapes, almonds and olives trees. The Mediterranean climate leads to the region hot summers, cold winters and a day to night temperature contrast that increases the maturation rate of the grapes. Low annual rainfall and generous sunlight (almost 2800 hours) helps to yield great fruit, boasting all the characteristics of truly good wine. In addition to the favorable climate, the calcareous brown soil has proportion-ally little clay and is poor in organic matter, which allows lower production and a greater complexity and intensity in all their wines.Celler Piñol believes in healthy and organic farming methods in order to produce the finest fruit, without the use of herbicides and pesticides. When you taste a Piñol family wine, you’re sharing their passion for art and quality, with high expression wines, great in personality, bouquet and taste.

HISTORY & WINERYBorn in Denmark, Peter Sisseck came to live in the Ribera del Duero in 1990 and worked as a technical director for Hacienda Monasterio. In 1995 he made use of his acquired experience amongst highly reputable winemakers in Bordeaux and Califor-nia to create Pingus.

In 2004, in line with the pure natural and elegance of his wines, Peter Sisseck finished the project of the winery of Dominio de Pingus in Quintanilla de Onésimo, Valladolid.

VINEYARDS & VINIFICATIONMeticulously kept vineyards of Tinta del País (Tempranillo) in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, situated on the unulated hills of La Horra at 800-837 metres altitude, and keeping with the precise rythm

of nature through the biodynamic life-cycle.

FLOR DE PINGUSA mosaic of 16 different vineyards are blended into Flor de Pin-gus. This assemblage of vineyard selection of older and younger vines forms Flor’s unique personality and character. The vineyards-parcels are vinified separately in 4000 litre stain-less steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels. Flor is aged 16 to 18 months in 50% new French and 50% in one year old barrels. Yields: 19hl/ha.Production: 60 000 bottles

PINGUSPingus is the result of two complementary and exceptionally well balanced old vines vineyards in a terroir of 4.5 hectares. The first one named “Barroso” is formed from old stratas of gravel-sandy over calcarous from the Duero River. The second vineyard, called “San Cristobal”, sits on clay slopes with an south west facing exposure. The berries of the old vines are vinified whole in small 2000 li-tres foudres. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels with 20-22 months of ageing. Yield: 11 hl/Ha.Production: 6 000 bottles

Tomàs Cusiné Barber, enologist and general manager open the winery in 2003 with the aim to elaborate wines capable of fully reflecting the characteristics of the soils from which they were produced. The winery is located in the village of El Vilosell, in the local district of Les Garrigues, in Lleida province. This area meets all of the requirements for growing first class grapes and obtaining wines of the finest quality. The vine-yards are located at an altitude between 700 and 740 metres above sea level. The different plots mainly lie on north and north-east facing slopes, with differing soil types and degrees of exposure. The climate, with a large diurnal temperature range and an annual rainfall between 380 and 600 mm per yea, guarantee a gradual maturation with quite late grape har-vests that are responsible for the wines smooth tannins, very intense colour and elegant, complex, fresh and longer lasting. At harvest, the grapes are collected in 200 kg boxes and refrigerated before they are sorted. There is a cold pre-maceration in tank, followed by a slow fermentation at a constant low temperature, with the aim of conserving both the rich taste of the fruit and the freshness of the harvest. The average annual production is about 195.000 bottles, and some magnums.

Asked by some friends in 2007 to help them with a new project in the hills of Alicante, we created our first wine, El bonhomme. For our first harvest, we selected grapes on a sorting ping pong table with friends, family and my Rafael Cambra - from Bodegas Rafael Cambra - in the background as a winemaker consultant tutoring us. El Bonhomme’s fame grew faster then we expected and the next harvest 2008 was transferred to Rafael’s Bodega in the ap-pellation of Valencia where it is still made. Together we blended El Bonhomme from one of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines of the Valencia region with one of the best possible Monastrell (mouvèdre) on the region of Valencia. In 2010, and in partnership with Miguel Gil of Bodegas Juan Gil - appellation Jumilla - el petit bonhomme was born. This project came to life due to many events, all of which are way too long to describe but frankly equally entertaining. The fabulous result was this unique Spanish wine, assembled with Monastrell, Garnacha and Syrah and that has the southern accent of a Côte du Rhône blend on the palate. Sold out soon after its release, this wine was recognized quickly as an overachiever and a catch.

Harlam Estate was founded in 1984 by H. William Harlan, in the western hills of Oakville, California, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The Estate is com-posed of 240 acres (97 ha) of which forty acres (17 ha) under vine, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (20%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Petit Verdot (2%). All the property of Har-lam Estate is located above the fabled Oakville bench lands from 225 to 1225 feet (68 to 374 m) above sea level. All the vineyards are sited in hillside, on both volcanic and sedimentary bedrock; a combination of terraced vineyards and closely spaced vines on spare soils over fractured rock; vertical trellis with shoot positioning, 360º of exposition.Bond’s people believe that the wines are as good as they are, except to point to obvious factors such as location and terroir especially thanks to the talents of Harlan’s long-time team. Most of Harlan team in fact has been with them since the mid-1980’s when the winery was still only a draft.Harlan’s wine possesses all the elements of greatness, individuality and power combined with elegance, extraordinary complexity, remarkable aging potential and compelling rich-ness without ponderousness.

In less than a decade they’d make a product that the wine critic Robert Parker would call “one of the great classics of the seventies, as well as a testament to what heights California Cabernet Sauvignon can achieve.” It was the 1974 when Conn Creek first wine was created in a red wine Bordeaux-styled. By 1979, they outgrew the facility they’d been leas-ing for several years. So Bill Collins, working primarily with his vineyard crew, built what is now the Conn Creek Winery in the Rutherford appellation. In what was perhaps the first “green” winery building in Napa Valley, they installed thick walls made of Styrofoam, steel mesh and a total of 20,000 corks. This energy and efficient design drew the attention of architects from all over the world. Variations on this type of construc-tion have been used in buildings and wineries worldwide ever since.

EDGE is a lush, complex Cabernet Sauvignon produced from grapes which were carefully selected from the great old vineyards in the Silverado Trail area of Napa Valley and the North Coast.Produced with North Coast fruit, our product is a cutting edge wine without the cutting edge price. Edge wine spent 16 months in French and American oak barrels, of which 30% were new. It is a blend of Cabernet and a small amount of Merlot to round out the edges. The partnership that came together to pro-duce this remarkable wine, not to mention exceptional value, has a long history in the wine, leisure, and investment sectors.Their style of wine making is based on the idea of “wine growing” described by a French word “Vigneron”. It means that everything done in the vineyards is intimately connected to the winemaking.Devotion is the word that best describes the intense attention the vineyards and wine re-ceive in order to produce Cabernet Sauvignon that is elegant and supple with complex fruit and balanced structure.

Fuse is a wine made by Signorello winery. To obtain FUSE wine they strive using only the best Cabernet Sauvignon fruit in the Napa Valley. The goal is to make a wine with concentrated fruit flavors and good acid balance. The winery’s philosophy for the FUSE Ca-bernet Sauvignon is to take the traditions of the “Old World” style and give it a little “New World” twist by adding Syrah instead. The result is a more interesting wine with some very complex aromas and flavors. Each step of the farming and winemaking process is undertaken with the great care and attention usually lavished on much higher-priced wines. The FUSE winemak-ing program shows off the beauty of this unique blend bringing together two old world grape varietals in a modern style. Techniques for maximum flavor extraction for both varietals include cold soaking, extended maceration (25 - 35 days) and frequent pumping over the grape must. This is done to create a heightened sensory experience from this fusion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, that producing a fine balance of fruit and tannins.Prior to bottling, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are aged separately in both French and American oak barrels for sixteen months. The barrels are racked a total of three times over the sixteen month period. The medium plus toasted barrels are a combination of French and American oak, selected especially for this blend.

Goldschmidt Vineyards was established in 1998 by Nick and Yolyn Goldschmidt. Both originally from New Zealand, spent time living and working in the wine areas of New Zealand, Australia and South America. From the beginning their goal was to produce two distinct brands of fine wines, Forefathers and Goldschmidt Vineyards. At Goldschmidt Vineyards their focus is Cabernet Sauvignon from two prestigious vineyards in Northern California: Vyborny Vineyard, located on the northeastern slope in the Alexander Valley, and Game Ranch Vineyard, located on old river bottom on the eastern bench of the Silverado Trail. Instead Forefathers vineyards are gown Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc, from three different Countries. Respectively: Cabernet from Alexander Valley in northern California, Shiraz from McLaren Vale in Southern Australia, and Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough in New Zeeland.Nick and Yolyn’s innovative wine portfolio as well as the international Forefathers and the prestigious Goldschmidt Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon has several other brands: Boulder Bank, Nick Goldschmidt & Daughters and Pampano from Argentina.

Keenan Winery and vineyards are located at an elevation of 1,700 feet above the Napa Valley floor, high in the Mayacamas Range. This area was first identified as prime vineyard land by Peter Conradi in the late 1800’s when he planted 100 acres of terraced vineyard in Zinfandel and Syrah grapes. In 1974, Robert Keenan pur-chased 180 acres of forest on the defunct Conradi Winery site. The estate was com-pletely abandoned, on-site remains only the crumbling walls of the former winery and a few old broken tanks. Robert re-placed tree stumps and rocks with rows of Cabernet and Chardonnay, redesign the original winery structure and brought in a contractor to begin construction. Robert Keenan Winery was made operational just in time for the harvest of 1977. From that time it has distinguished itself as a maker of exceptional wines in limited varietals and quantity. It has also earned a great reputation for producing wines of intense character and renowned acclaim. In fact, in 1978, Cabernet Sauvignon was voted as the best California Cabernet of that vintage and in 1986 Cabernet was acclaimed as the 42nd best Cabernet in the world by Wine Spectator.Robert Keenan focuses his production on Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for an average production of 10,000 cases per year.

Ladera is a family owned winery from 2000 when Anna and Pat Stotesberry bought the property. Ladera story is a tale of two vineyards, almost at op-posite ends of the Napa Valley. Their terrains and their histories are very different. Lone Canyon Vineyard on the flank of Mt. Veeder ranges in altitude up to 1,100 feet; some areas are so rugged and steep it’s difficult to stand upright. Ladera’s Howell Mountain vinryard look northeast from the town of St Helena and ranges in altitude from 1,600 feet to 1,800 feet: a gently rolling terrain, but set on a broad ridge of the mountain high above the Napa Valley floor. Ladera’s Howell Mountain vineyard was considered from the very beginning to be a little piece of France, and was named Nouveau Medoc Vine-yard by the men who founded it.Both vineyards produce the distinctly intense fruit of well-drained hillside and mountain vineyards. At Ladera the job is to bring out the best wines qualities and prepare them to go out into the world. All their wines are aged for about 2 years in French oak barrels tucked safely in their underground caves, where are racked by gravity as often as taste determines.

Randy Lewis was a professional race car driver for 23 years and wine has always been Randy’s second love after racing. He feels fortunate to be making a living doing what he lovesLewis Cellars have the goal to create world-class wines. They are literally hands-on in every aspect of vineyard management, winemaking, sales and distribution, and they thrive on this challenge and the relationships we cultivate in the process. The fruits are sourcing from Calistoga, St. Helena, Rutherford and Oak Knoll for our red varietals. Their Chardonnay comes from Oak Knoll, Carneros, and Russian River Valley. Each site was selected for a spe-cific varietal character, with many of the vineyards being planted exclusively for Lewis winery. They’ve chosen low vigor rootstocks and a selection of clones in order to grow balanced vines and mod-est yields for a maximum wines flavors production. The total production is approximately 9,000 cases annually of Cabernet Sau-vignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Merryvale is located in the municipal-ity of St. Helena in Napa Valley. It was founded in 1983 by Schlatter Family. From the beginning it has been turning exceptional Napa Valley grapes into world class wine. The vineyards are located in two different places. One called “Mer-ryvale’s Estate Vineyard Solstice” who is positioned high above St. Helena in the heart of Napa Valley, where is produces exceptional Bordeaux varietal grapes. The other vineyard areas is called “Merryvale’s Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyardand”, it is located in foggy Carneros in southern Napa Valley where San Francisco and San Pablo Bay breezes yield luscious Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay. Rolling hills and shal-low soils combined with a diversity of clonal selection allows them to create a palette of flavors and textures for the winemakers to craft seductive and intriguing wines.Merryvale winemakers Sean Foster and Graham Wehmeier seeks to capture the essence of the Napa Valley in their wines. The fruits are carefully tended and selected with hand-picked and hand sorted before crushing to elimi-nate any fruit that fails in order to meet Merryvale’s high standards.

Miner was founded by Dave and Emily Miner in 1996, it’s located in the heart of Napa Valley into the eastern hills of the Oakville Appellation. Before opening his own Miner winery, Dave was the President of his uncle winery or rather the “Oakville Ranch Vineyards” where he met his wife Emily, at that time the Tasting Room Manger. In addition to winery-owned vineyards, Gary & Dave identified, sought and secured a number of California’s finest vineyard sites, but only those allowing them complete farming control. It is this level of detail and control, from vine to wine, that ensures a wine’s consistency and quality. Each wine at Miner is crafted in a style to encapsulate the distinctive elements and the indelible fingerprints of their respective vineyards. This combina-tion of excellent vineyard sites along with passionate and thoughtful winemaking injects the necessary components for creating profoundly joyful wines.

Bob and Mary Miner after moved from Europe to California in 1989 bought Oakville Ranch. The winery takes his name from the original mountain vineyard of the sub-appellation that produces the New World’s most celebrated Cabernets. Covering just two square miles at the heart of Napa Valley, the Oakville district may be small, but its wines play a very big role in the connoisseur’s collection. At 1,400 feet above the valley floor, Oakville Ranch produces fruit that speaks from the appellation’s signature red volcanic soil with a mountain accent. The vineyards are surrounded by wild grasses, native meadows and unsullied woodlands. They are cultivated with a holistic organic approach addresses the needs of the vines on an intrinsic level rather than simply layering on additives. In the two decades since Bob and Mary Miner pur-chased the 350-acre ranch, plantings have slowly increased from an initial 55 acres to today’s 75 acres of predominantly Bordeaux varietals. The result has been an awakening of the vineyard’s exceptional potential and it has begun produc-ing fruit of the highest quality available in the appellation.

When Mike was a sophomore in High school, he had already declared his intention to major in enology. In 1980, during his last year at Davis’ University he landed an opportunity to do an internship in a winery where was soon offered to him a job as Assistant Winemaker. In 1983 Mike moved over to Sonoma County to pursue his dream of one day owning a winery. He took a job at Field Stone as the winemaker working alongside with the Anfre’ Tchelistcheff, a world-renowned winemaker, for nine years while crafting his Cabernet for his Optima label. In 1984, Mike purchased grapes of his own, leading to his first production of 400 cases of Cabernet. Today, Mike along with his wife Nicol and four boys celebrate Optima Winery’s while continuing the tradition of producing pre-mium world class Cabernet, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. Before making wines for himself, Peter Franus worked for other wineries where in the third was the winemaker from 1981 to 1992.All the great wines Peter Franus enjoyed have several features in common: rich-ness, complexity, harmony, and most important an invitation to come back for more and discover something new with each taste. He personally enjoys wines that are elusive, those that are impossible to quite put a finger on or explain completely. These thoughts are the guide for his winemaking style. Peter Franus has a great respect for tra-dition, and he relies largely on intuition and feelings to guide his decisions. He tries to intervene as little as possible in a wine’s evolution. Distinctive wines come from outstand-ing grapes that are limited to certain unique sites and microclimates. Grapes from these sources do not require a lot of manipulation and have the greatest potential to produce exciting and memorable wines. As a winemaker Peter greatest satisfac-tion comes when he sees a smile and hears the positive simple comment that his wines are delicious.

With renovations beginning in 1997, Dr. Julio Palmez, the inventor of he Palmaz Coronary Stent, purchased the forgotten stone winery, and acres of land that had once produced fine Napa wines. At the foot of Mt. George in East Napa it had been the site of Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, founded in 1881 by Henry Hagen, one of Napa Valley’s pioneer winemakers. At Palmaz, there are three separate, distinct estate vineyards located at 400, 1200 and 1400 feet above sea level. Each site has its own unique microclimate and soils. Individual blocks are planted and harvested based upon soil variations, aspect and exposure. The vineyards are planted with primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, plus some small lots of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, which are used as blending components for Palmaz wines.Palmaz Vineyards’ winemaking and aging takes place within the living rock of Mount George, in a flawlessly engineered maze of tunnels and lofty domes. The depth of the wine cave is equivalent to an 18-storey build-ing, providing the vertical range needed for true gravity-flow winemaking. Thus, the wine is never subjected to the violent agitation of pumping, which can change the wine’s structure. This gentle treatment al-lows the finest nuances of flavor to develop naturally – the result is a complex, elegant wine.

The secluded property, once a large thoroughbred horse ranch, was purchased by Susan Meyer’s family in 1972. Now it reflects Jim & Susan’s two passions: wine and horses. They continue to breed and race thoroughbreds and each spring; just about the time new buds form on the grape vines, new foals are born.

The grape vines were planted in the mid 70’s to Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. The winery was founded by Stan and Grant Meyer in 1985. It is housed in a renovated cattle barn. Winemaker Susan Meyer and her husband, Jim Fresquez, took over the reins of the operation in 1990.

Helping Susan handcraft the estate-bottled wines produced by RustRidge is distinguished consultant winemaker Kent Rosenblum. Vines are organically grown and dry farmed. The grapes are used by Susan and Kent to create RustRidge’s spectrum of award-winning wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel.

The region’s special microclimate is integral to the character of RustRidge wines. The Chiles Valley lies approximately 1,000 feet above the Napa Valley floor. The day time climate here is similar to that of the Oakville and Rutherford areas; however, the tem-perature is several degrees cooler at night. The cooler nights and the higher elevation delay bud-break which occurs two to three weeks later than the rest of Napa Valley. As a result, the grapes are harvested later than most other grapes from Napa Valley which, in part, lends distinctive flavor and quality to the wines. The reds are redolent of black cherry, raspberry and spice, while the white wines show distinct flavors and aromas of green apple, ripe pear, pineapple and citrus.

Founded and operated by a small group of wine industry veterans and winemaker consulting Kent Rosenblum and his daugh-ter Shauna Rosenblum. Ideally situated in Alameda, California, the winery boasts spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, and more importantly its locale al-lows the winemaking team to be regionally centralized - ensuring that whether Caber-net Sauvignon from Napa Valley, Zinfandel from Sonoma County, Petite Sirah from Contra Costa County or Chardonnay from the Santa Lucia Highlands, the winemaking team is able to handle the fruit soon after it is picked. The grapes are therefore sourced from all over California which creates a di-verse winemaking environment, complete with different grape varieties, styles and re-gional flavor profiles. The Rock Wall Wine Company was founded accordingly on the philosophy of the right grape in the right place and is the result of many long-term relationships with acclaimed vineyards.Housed in a converted 40,000 square-foot airplane hangar, the winery is located on what was once a Naval Air Base. Also known as Building 24, the hangar is due north of a defensive rock wall which made up the perimeter of the base. Taking their name from this protective wall, the Rock Wall winery building has been retrofitted with state-of-the-art winemaking equip-ment.

Ray Signorello Sr. purchased the first 100 estate’s acres on the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley during the middle of 1970. Almost ten years later his son, Ray Signorello Jr., began his journey as winemaker and vineyard and father and son work side by side establish-ing the winery’s reputation for excellence until his passing in the fall of 1998. At the beginning Signorellos’ plan was to grow quality grapes to sell to existing winer-ies, but the bountiful crop harvest of 1985 allowed Signorellos to custom crush the excess grapes. This opportunity demon-strated what fabulous wine their vineyards were capable of producing.Afterwards they bought other acres vine-yards and in 1986 build the main winery structure. The Soil is clay in the hillside and sandy loam in the valley. In 1990 was planting the first red varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Signorello estate makes limited quantities of premium varietals that blend classic French wine making characteristics with California fruit. Their winemaking’s style is directly tied to their vineyards and they believe that every-thing done in the vineyards is intimately connected to the winemaking. Their aim is to have wines with early accessibility, as well as the potential to develop additional complexity as they mature.

In 1986 the family purchased Nathan Fay’s ranch who was the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the Stags Leap district and named it FAY in his honor. The original vineyards, formerly known as Stag’s Leap Vineyards were purchased in 1970 which was composed by 35 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and one acre of Merlot. The winery today is best known for its estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon: CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY.Over the years, their wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected worldwide because they express classic elegance, structure, agreeability and reflect the place where grapes grown.Although the S.L.V. and F A Y vineyards adjoin each other the wines produced incorporating different expressions of “ter-roir”. The soils of S.L.V. are predominantly volcanic in nature and this contributes multi-layered structure, concentration, and spicy intensity. Instead the soils of FAY are much more alluvial and yield elements of softness and rich berry qualities in the wines.

Stonehedge winery was founded in the small town of St. Helena in 1992 by Shahabi Brothers. Stonehedge specializes in the production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvi-gnon Blanc. Their wines are produced in three distinct profiles namely California Appellation wines, Terrior Select Series and Reserve Napa Valley Wines. The California Appellation wines offer a fruit forward, supple and soft flavor profile with a light touch of oak in most wines. The Terrior Select Series wines are lim-ited production wines that truly reflect character of the soil and climate in which a particular grape shows it at its best. The Reserve Napa Valley Wines are produced from specifically selected blocs of famous vineyards embodying the best a varietal has to offer. At Stonehedge all vineyards are meticu-lously managed with a ritual green har-vest in early summer, ensuring low yields. Stonehedge draws its fruit from some of the best vineyards across California, benefiting from California’s diversely rich and complex soil and microclimates.

Truchard Vineyards was established in 1974 by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard in the Carneros region in Napa Valley. They start with 20 acres parcel of land and transformed what was an abandoned prune orchard into a vine-yard. They began selling the fruit to a local winery and in 1989 making wine for them-selves using only their estate-grown fruit. Since today the Truchard Estate Vineyard has grown 400 acres, of which 270 are planted. The vineyards are composed by a series of hills and valleys, which contain a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, volcanic rock and ash. The various combinations of terrain, ge-ology, and marine-moderated temperatures provide unique winegrowing conditions. The wines are hand-crafted using traditional winemaking techniques, and exemplify the high quality fruit of this unique estate. They are truly: “wines with a sense of place”.Truchard wines have garnered much critical appreciation. Wines from the 1994, 1996, and 1997 vintages have been included in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines of the world. In 1997 and 1998 was also selected by Wine & Spirits as the “Estate Winery of the Year”.

Founded in 1881 as Napa Valley’s 11th bonded winery, by George W. Meyers of Oakland, Villa Mt. Eden has a long heritage of producing wines that draw the praise of critics and win the hearts of wine lovers. It’s one of the few winer-ies established around the 1880s that exists today, among the good company of Beringer, Chateau Montelena and Far Niente. The herit-age stretches back to the pioneering roots of California winegrowing. The winemaking and viticulture team combines classic winemaking talent with an unceasing spirit of adventure and a drive for perfection. The grapes are sourced in the California’s most noteworthy growing regions and vineyards. For Caber-net Sauvignon, they turn to Napa Valley, the region where it grows best. To the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley and the celebrated Russian River Valley they grows the vines of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In the east to Amador County in the Sierra Foothills they source Zinfandel fruit from vineyards planted as far back as 1908.Since 1983 the winery has been managed by the winemaker Mike McGrath. Thanks to him, Villa Mt. Eden earned five placements on Wine Spectator’s annual “Top 100” and many best value accolades.

Chuck and Anne McMinn acquired the stewardship of Vineyard 29 in 2000 and began its evolution from a single vineyard to a full scale winery. In 1989, Teresa Norton and Tom Paine came to Napa Valley to retire - a dream that was quickly replaced by another when they learned their estate was prime cabernet sauvignon territory. In a matter of weeks, they were putting in a 3-acre vineyard under the watchful eye of lauded vineyard manager David Abreu and, within a year, planting cuttings from neighbors, Grace Family Vineyards. The first release in 1992 was warmly received by press and public alike. The turn of the century ushered in the next phase of Vineyard 29. Along with the Vineyard 29 property, Chuck and Anne acquired the historic Aida vineyard in 2000 as a perfect complement to the Vineyard 29 site for expansion of the winery’s portfolio. With a new, state of the art winemaking facility, and the unquestionable skill of winemaker Philippe Melka, all the pieces were in place for Chuck and Anne to lead Vineyard 29 to a new and exciting level of winemaking..

MCristom’s founder and owner, Paul Gerrie, used his skills as an engineer and avid researcher to pursue his passion for wine. On his travels to France, he was intro-duced to the traditional growing practices of the Burgundy region. He learned that terroir was the key in developing the complexity of the fruit. In 1991 Paul decided to follow his wine passion and moved to Oregon, the burgeoning wine country. He chooses Steve Doerner as winemaker, who shared Paul’s vision of “letting the land make the wines.” After a quarter century of experi-ence Steve still believes the winemaker’s job is to “optimize what the vineyard provides.” In addition to his reputation as a master winemaker Steve is a biochemist who had been making wine in California. And so with a passion that only wine enthusiasts embrace and a precision that can only come from a chemist and an engineer, the two set out to cultivate their vision, which today, can be seen in the seven distinct vineyards on Cristom’s 65 acres.Cristom’s tradition of quality and distinc-tion, recognized throughout the wine world, is being carried out also by the next generation, Christine Gerrie and her brother Tom, as they continue to become more directly involved in the operation of the winery.

Dick Erath is one of the original wine pio-neers of Oregon, he made the first barrel of wine in the garage of his home in 1965 and three years later purchased his first vineyard site on Chehalem Mountain. Here Dick planted 23 vines varieties and in 1972 produced the Dundee Hills’ first commer-cial wine. In 1972 Dick designed and built the Erath winery and from the initial yearly production of 216 cases, he expanded it to almost 131.000 cases until today. In 2003 Gary Horner was named Erath winemaker and from the beginning his goal was to makes the best Pinot Noir of the region. The red and iron-rich soils of the estate, combined with gentle breezes and warming sunshine of a marine climate, have bestowed upon Dundee Hill a terroir of note. In 2005 Wine Spectator ranks the 2005 Estate Selection of Pinot Noir on its “Top 100” list. In 2010, 10 out of 10 Erath single vineyard Pinot Noirs from the 2006 vintage received ratings of 90+ points from the industry’s top publications and in 2012 for a second time in the winery’s history all single vineyard Pinot Noirs from a single vintage (2009) received ratings of 90+ points from the top publications.

In 1997, Moe and Flora Momtazi purchased 532 acres of farm just south of their home in McMinnville, Oregon. Both were pas-sionate about farming and wanted to make wine using holistic, naturopathic practices. In 1998 began planting the first vines and in 2001 making their first vintage. Maysara is entirely managed by Momtazi family. Moe and Flora’s daughters in fact are in-volved in the family business, respectively: Tahmiene is the winemaker, Naseem responsible of Sales and Marketing and Hanna for hospitality. For Momtazi’s family both the vineyard and terroir are important, but vineyard practices are key. They believe that healthy soil and healthy vines will produce superior fruits without the need for commercial chemicals and ninety percent of winemak-ing takes place in the vineyards. As such, they have held themselves to a strict form of land use with practices holistic farming and employing practices from organic and Biodynamic agriculture. By using such methods they not only believe that they are enhancing the ecology of their land, but also growing the best grapes possible. The high quality of the wines made from Momtazi Vineyard grapes leads them to believe that their dedication to their Biody-namic farming techniques is working.

14 Hands winemaker Keith Kenison has been making wines in Washing-ton State for more than 15 years and in 2002 he was named winemaker for 14 Hands.Introduced in 2005, 14 Hands wines are inspired by the unbridled spirit of the wild horses that once freely roamed eastern Washington. Measur-ing a scant 14 hands high – a “hand” equivalent to the width of one’s palm – these tenacious little horses would travel down from the hills every day to drink from the mighty Columbia River and graze along the riverbank, then retreat back to cool off at night. Displaying strength, Washington’s wild horses have become living symbols of the pioneer spirit of the American West. The estate with his loamy-sand and gravel soils requires a strong and determined grapevine. With the fruit from these tenacious vines, the wines of 14 Hands are handcrafted into big, bold, juicy fruit forward reds and crisp, fruit forward white wines that are laced with the unbridled spirit and legend of the region

Col Solare was founded in 1995 thanks to the partnership between two influential wine producers: Tuscany’s Marchesi An-tinori and Washington State’s Chateau Ste. Michelle. From the beginning, Col Solare’s mission has been to unite these two unique viticulture and winemaking cultures to produce a world-class Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the best Washington fruit. The winery owns 30 acres estate vineyard which are planted predominantly of Caber-net Sauvignon, along with individual blocks of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Col Solare wines harness the promise of Red Mountain’s climate, terroir and precision viticulture. The meticulously planned vineyard stretches out emulating rays of sun. Individual blocks were selectively planted with specifica-tions on vine density, slope, wind and sun direction. The winemaker, Marcus Notaro, is consid-ered among the premier authorities on wine grape growing in Washington State and his cooperative research with Washington State University has led to advances in irrigation practices, vineyard sustainability, and integrated pest management.

Founded over 20 years ago, Columbia Crest is one of Washington State’s pre-mier wine producers beginning in 1978 when grapes were planted in eastern Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills along the Columbia River. The appellation straddles the 46th (north) parallel, the same latitude as central France. Not surprisingly, the major Bordeaux vari-etals (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) do well in the Columbia Valley.Ray Einberger, who became Head Win-emaker in 2002, joined Columbia Crest in 1993 and worked to establish the winery’s acclaimed Reserve program, which under his leadership has received consistently high scores and blossomed to a 20,000 case annual production. The cellar operations for the Reserve wines were modeled, in part, on Einberger’s experience as Maître de Chai for Napa Valley’s Opus One from 1991 to 1993

Pepper Bridge winery mission is to make ultra-premium and world-class of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are cultivated with a sustainable viticulture remaining committed to the long-term viability of the winemaking industry in the Walla Walla Valley. The vineyards are located in two different areas, one called Pepper Bridge and the other Seven Hills: both cover almost 200 acres of premium wine grapes each. These are recognized as two of the best vineyards in the State. Attention to detail and functionality were the driving forces behind the design and construction of the Winery. It is a state-of-the-art, gravity-flow facility, complete with subterranean caves. In a gravity-flow winery such as this one, the grape pulp and juice are moved from the sorting table to the tanks to the barrels via gravity, rather than by pumps. This gentle treatment of the grapes prevents the shearing of seeds and the introduction of bitter tannins. As a result, all of their wines have elegant textures and exquisite flavor profiles.

Stimson Estate Cellars is property of Chateau Ste. Michelle, Washington state’s oldest and most acclaimed winery. They introduce this new line of varietal wines under the name of Stimson Estate Cellars, made in honor of that legacy.Stimson Estate Cellars wines are crafted from ripe, flavorful grapes from the vine-yards of Columbia Valley in eastern Wash-ington state. These prime eastern Wash-ington vineyards lie at the same northerly latitude as France’s renowned wine regions, providing more hours of grape-maturing sunlight during the growing season than in southern vineyards. Two coastal mountain ranges provide ample protection from western Washington’s cool, wet weather, yielding over 300 days of sunshine and less than ten inches of rain per year. The warm, sunny days and cool nights during the growing season create ideal conditions for producing grapes with intense aromas and flavors.

Founded in 1983, Snoqualmie was one of Washington’s first premium wineries, produc-ing classic wine varietals from vineyards across the Columbia Valley.Originally located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Snoqualmie opened its winery in Prosser, WA, at the base of the Horse Heaven Hills, in 2002.Under the leadership of Joy Andersen, winemaker since 1991, Snoqualmie has become a leader in sustainable and organic winemaking in Washington. Our Naked line of organically produced wines was introduced with the 2003 vintage.Naked WinesAlthough all of our wines are made with minimal intervention, grapes used in the Naked wine series are farmed as “au naturel” as possible. “Naked” is made with certified organically grown grapes in a certified organic facility. Very true to the varietal, these wines fit in perfectly with Joy’s philosophy that it is best to leave Mother Nature alone - let nature take her course and then try to capture the natural essence of the vineyard in the bottle. Columbia ValleyLocals often describe Snoqualmie’s Columbia Valley wines as “Naturally Northwest.” They offer a classic varietal flavor profile, while reflecting the unique terroir of specific ap-pellations within the Columbia Valley. Joy pulls the grape’s natural fruit flavors to create distinctive wines with bright, bold tastes. Available nationally, these award-winning wines provide excellent value and are ap-proachable food-friendly wines that can be enjoyed as part of any occasion, especially the family dinner table. what she feels is the best of the varietal, vintage and the terroir. As harvest nears, Joy is frequently seen tasting and re-tasting in the vineyard, ensuring that the fruit’s quality and

structure is worthy of a Reserve designation. Individually selected vineyards are then hand harvested and gently brought to the winery. Although these steps are time consuming, they ensure that only the

best of the best make it into Snoqualmie’s Re-serve program. In the bottle, these wines offer elegant complexity with plenty of structure to endure the test of time. Snoqualmie produces a very limited quantity of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
