TES has adopted, since many years now, the Quality and Safety and Health Assurance systems, currently in compliance with ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, and ISO 18001:2007 standards. TES’ Quality Assurance is described in the quality manual and implemented through the “Quality Control Plans” prepared for every job. Product conformity, is checked by specialized experts, who carry out production controls and final inspection in the Testing Room. The Health and Safety systems instead, for the protection of all TES’ employees and the surrounding Environment, are followed by other specialized experts who study the potential risks, internal and external to the company and make sure, these could be avoided. TES Quality and Safety and Health Assurance systems, are certified by SQS and IQNet.Ce

DC Using its consolidated technology and the experience it has ac-

cumulated in the construction of transformers for AC and DC arc furnaces (eAFs), TeS designs, manufactures, tests, com-missions and maintains three-phase furnace transformers with power ratings of up to more than 300 MVA .

Transformers for electric-arc furnaces are used throughout the steel industry. They are used to power arc furnaces for the pro-duction of steel, which require high levels of power that must also be variable due to the frequent short-circuits, and also to power arc furnaces for the production of special iron alloys - these alloys often require the deployment of three single-phase furnace transformers instead of a single three-phase transfor-mer in order to balance the total phase impedance through an equilateral-triangle layout of the units or in applications of mo-dern steel processes as SAF, VAR, eSR or Smelters.

These transformers must be designed and manufactured to resist to the high levels of electrical, thermal and mechanical stresses to which they are subject during utilisation, characteri-zed by high levels of power oftenly variable due to the frequent short circuits.

Other elements that must be taken into consideration when designing transformers for electric-arc furnaces are the high secondary currents required for the melting process (dozens of kA) and the wide range of secondary voltages, which are normally regulated by an on-load tap changer (OLTC), either directly on the high-voltage winding or via an intermediate bo-oster located within the same tank.

An additional option that is now often used in furnace transfor-mers is the closure of the secondary electrical circuit (triangle) within the transformer tank.Furnace transformers are often used in series with reactors, which serves to enhance the stability of the arc. The reactor can be built inside the main transformer tank, or alternatively, it can be entirely separate from it or located next to it (OBR - On Board Reactor).

This solution (OBR) makes possible the elimination of the costs of the MV cabling connections between the transformer and the reactor, thus making it possible to carry out maintenance work on the reactor without having to shut off the transformer. In this way, the overall reliability of the system can be enhanced.

Among its wide production range, TeS designs, manufactures, tests, commissions and maintains three-phase ladle furnace (LF) transformers.

LF Transformers are used throughout the steel industry and are often deployed in combination with electric-arc furnaces (eAFs).when designing these transformers, it is necessary to take into consideration the same factors that apply to the design of those that are used to power electric-arc furnaces: high levels of electrical, thermal and mechanical stresses, high secondary currents and tap changing of the secondary vol-tages. As with eAFs, an additional option that is now often used in furnace transformers, is the closure of the secondary electrical circuit (triangle) within the transforme tank.

S TeS designs, manufactures, tests, commissions and main-tains single-phase and three-phase oil-type reactors.

In electric arc furnaces, which use long arcs and high values of secondary voltage, it is normally essential to introduce an additional reactor, which serves to stabilise the arc during fusion and to optimise the functionality of the furnace. The furnace transformers are often used in series with reactors which have some regulation taps operated with either an on-load tap changer (OLTC), for maximum flexibility, or with a de-energized tap changer (DeTC). The reactor can be built either inside the main transformer tank, or alternatively, it can be entirely separate from it or located next to it (OBR).

This solution (OBR) makes possible the elimination of the costs of the MV cabling connections between the transfor-mer and the reactor, thus making it possible to carry out maintenance work on the reactor without having to shut off the transformer. In this way, the overall reliability of the sy-stem can be enhanced.

KSIn long HV networks there is often the need to install single-phase or three-phase shunt reactors to compensate the lar-ge amount of reactive power generated by the network itself during no load conditions. Shunt reactors are nowadays an important equipment needed to help managing and control-ling the energy flows in the HV networks.

S TeS designs, manufactures, tests, commissions and main-tains single-phase and three-phase rectifier and conversion transformers for industrial, network and traction applications.

Today, there are numerous applications that require similar transformers with ever-increasing levels of power. The clas-sic example is provided by those industries that use elec-trolysis processes or for the production of aluminium. The high secondary currents, together with the harmonic cur-rents generated by the rectification systems, must be fully taken into account when designing transformers to power such loads.

Two types of rectifiers are available: thyristor rectifiers and diode rectifiers. In both cases, the transformers that power them must supply a gradually adjustable secondary voltage, which is normally produced via an on-load switch (OLTC). In cases in which the range of secondary voltages is high, the variation is produced through a regulation transformer, sometimes shifted, which can be located in a separate tank or in the same tank as the main transformer.

The construction of these transformers involves sometimes the use of both different primary voltages, tertiary filter win-dings, IPT (Inter Phase Transformers), saturable reactors and the use of two secondary windings (star/triangle), either ma-gnetically coupled or magnetically uncoupled.

S Power and distribution transformers and autotransfor-mers are used wherever it is necessary to connect sy-stems for the generation, transmission, distribution and utilisation of electrical energy, which function at different voltages, in order to transfer large quantities of active and reactive energy between these systems.

Power and distribution transformers are nowadays used as-well in mobile substations, needed to feed energy where a standard substation is not or cannot be built. The geometry and the particular characteristics some-times used in those transformers (multiple, primary and secondary voltages, plug-in connections, etc.) make them special in the design and in the costruction.
