I’m not going to apologize; I really like the fall season.
There are a variety of reasons but I’ve come to realize
that my favorite thing about fall is getting back into a
routine. Now that might sound funny coming from me
since I tend to enjoy doing things at the last minute but
I really do cherish routine. I also enjoy having activity
happening around me and when the calendar turns to
September, Peace Lutheran Church is filled with
activity. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of activity
happening throughout Peace during the summer—
probably more than you might expect—but there is
something about the routine that fall brings.
Think about it - Sunday School classes are starting up
again, Confirmation is beginning, we are returning to
two worship services on Sunday mornings, the Peace
Preschool is back in session along with Headstart
programs and the programs offered through the
Oshkosh School District. Did you know that Monday
through Friday there are over 200 people who are in
the Peace building? For an extrovert like me that is
music to my ears!
No doubt you also have a routine in your own life that
changes when we get to the fall. Maybe you have kids
who are going back to school or you participate in an
activity like bowling or pickleball that takes a break over
the summer. Perhaps you look forward to your favorite
television show coming back from its summer break or
you like cheering on a certain football team that resides
in Green Bay.
As we ramp up into our fall routine, I want you to think
about how we do all of these things together. Very little
of what we do happens on our own. We need others
around us to help make our routine successful. We all
play a role in the routine of others, whether we
recognize that or not.
In Paul’s letter to the Romans, he talks about how we
are all in this together.
“4 For as in one body we have many members, and
not all the members have the same function, 5 so
we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and
individually we are members one of another. 6 We
have gifts that differ according to the grace given to
us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; 7 ministry, in
ministering; the teacher, in teaching; 8 the exhorter,
in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in
diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.”
(Romans 12:4-8 – NRSV)
What gifts do you bring to Peace Lutheran Church?
What gifts do you share with the Oshkosh community?
How are you a part of other people’s routines and daily
lives. I think that is a lesson we need to keep learning.
We are all in this together, even if we don’t realize it or
believe it. We are a part of each other’s stories.
How will you contribute to someone else’s story this
month? Will it be in a positive way or a less than
encouraging way? The choice is ours, isn’t it? May you
be a blessing to others as you have first been blessed.
Have a wonderful September!
Shalom,

ACTS OF PEACE PLAYERS
We want to thank everyone from Peace Lutheran Church who have supported us during our first season. We are thankful for the opportunity to bring quality theater to the Oshkosh Community and we love using the space in the Social Center. Without your support we would not be able to do something we love.
Thank you again for your support and we look forward to putting on more productions in the next year.

CURATOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES
What a successful year we had!! 26 children from
Peace, from the Preschool, and from the
neighborhood gathered together for a week of faith,
fellowship and fun. A spy theme kept things engaging
for the kids. Crossways did an awesome job teaching
lessons including the parable of the Good Samaritan,
the Wedding Banquet, Laborers in the Vineyard, as
well as when Jesus healed the paralyzed man and
what the early Christian community looked like. Many
Thanks!
First, thank you God for making all of this possible.
Thank you to the Crossways camp for coming to our
church. A special thanks to our counselors; Ian,
Conner and Hailey for spending the week teaching
and guiding our kids. Thank you to Matt Crowe for
making all of our signs and badges and for assisting
me in crunch time.
To our kitchen staff; Lindsey, Nicole, Signe, Dave,
Carol, and Elise. Without them I’m fairly certain your
children might not have been fed for the week. The
kitchen would have been nothing without the well
oiled machine of Janelle and Mary who planned
EVERYTHING, thank you!
Thank you to Alex and Dairy Queen for the dilly bars
on our final day. Thank you to everyone who donated
money so the children could eat.
To all my youth volunteers; Aly, Riggs, Joshua, Bella,
Alexis, and Kaitlin- Thank you for giving your time and
for caring for the littles. Thank you to our host families
- Kira and the Wolfgang Family, for providing so much
more than just shelter for the counselors. To Pastor,
thank you for all of your support, presence and advice.
A great big thank you to the parents and families of
our campers. Thank you for trusting me with your
children for the week, I love them all dearly. Thank you
campers for spending time together in God’s word,
with Jesus’s love and living in the Spirit.
Thank you to our whole congregation for their love and
support in so many ways. Without you, the kids would
have missed out on a fabulous week.
Finally, thank you to Chad, my husband. Thank you for
being a solo parent for the week and for helping out
so much at church with all the other odd and ends. I
love you.

CURATOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES
Peace Lutheran Sunday School will resume on Sunday,
September 8 at 9:00 am. This year, we are excited to
offer Spark: Activate Faith Sunday School for all kids
grades Pre-K to 5th. Each week we’ll explore a new
Bible story using the Spark Bibles. Parents, each week
we’ll send home a Family Page for you to explore that
week’s Bible story together as a family. We’re excited
to explore the same scripture we hear in church each
week with kids using Spark: Activate Faith Sunday
School! Kids will learn a new Bible story each week
through reading the Bible, activities, and music. We will
also incorporate mini lessons on how to use their
Bibles, common prayers, Ten Commandments, and
much more.
Sixth through Eighth graders will utilize Faith Lens
Weekly Bible Study offered through the ELCA. Faith
Lens is a weekly Bible study that engage youth and
young adults in connecting world events with the Bible,
faith, and everyday life.
In addition to our weekly Sunday School and Bible Study,
there will also be service projects to involve kids in
church services, caring for the congregation, and helping
our local and global community. We are so excited for a
filled and fulfilling year.
Join us on Rally Sunday, September 8th, for our open
house. Families are encouraged to stay and see what
this new curriculum and school year has to offer. There
will be games, contests, refreshments and a chance to
sign up for volunteer opportunities as well as take a
closer look at Sparks curriculum. The fun starts at
9:00am in the social center.
Sunday School and Youth Bible study is open to all
children from Pre-K through 8th grade. Kids do not have
to be members of Peace to be part of our program. We
encourage kids to bring a friend, or two whenever
available. Enrollment forms are available in the PLC
office, at the Family Table in the Narthex or for download
on the PLC website.
If you have any questions or would like further
information, please see Nicki McKnight, Curator of Youth
and Family Ministries. [email protected]
SUNDAY SCHOOL AND YOUNG ADULT BIBLE STUDY KICKOFF SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH 9:00AM
YOUTH GROUP KICK OFF.
As summer comes to a close and school starts up again,
be sure to keep a spot on your calendar for some time
with your Peers at Peace. Peace has an amazing group
of young adults, and if you are entering 6th grade up
through 12th grade, that includes YOU! We are hoping to
meet at least once a month for a fun social gathering
free of commitment, judgement and or worry.
This year some of the fun things we are planning include
game nights, retreats, ski/snowboarding trips, sledding,
movies, dinners, bowling and so much more! Wanting to
give back we will also plan community service projects
which offer a way for you to get in your “required
volunteer” hours. Join us for nursing home visits,
neighborhood clean up, Day by Day warming shelter
help, babysitting service, United Way, and so much more.
Whether you can come once or can make it to every
event, feel free to join us whenever you can. When you
give, you find you get so much more. Transportation will
always be provided as needed.
Our first event will be Sunday September 15th at
5:30pm in Room 201. Pizza dinner will be served and
games will be played. Bring a friend (or two or more) for
a chance to win a prize.
Be there from the start for a great year of fun, faith, and
friends. See Nicki McKnight for questions and or further
details. [email protected] (949)690-4177.

CURATOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
WORSHIP ASSISTANT OPPORTUNITY: AV Booth Volunteer
We are looking for interested
youth--confirmation age and
older, who would be interested
in working in the sound booth.
Kim Dawson will be training
those who are interested
beginning in September. This is
a great opportunity to engage youth directly into the
worship service! Individuals who are interested, should
connect with [email protected].
NEW (TO PEACE) CHAIRS IN THE SOCIAL CENTER On July 30th, Peace
Lutheran Church was
the recipient of 70
p a d d e d a n d
upholstered banquet
chairs. These chairs
were a free upgrade
from the Hilton Hotel
who was also making
an upgrade. A member
of the church, who has a connection with the Hilton
Hotel , contacted Peace in mid-June to say that the chairs
would be available after EAA had run its course for 2019.
On July 30th I recruited a small group of helpful church
family friends and we collected 70 chairs. The chairs
were put to use for the VBS dinners and we look forward
to offering you comfortable seating for many more
dinners to come!
UPGRADES WITH PARK DANCE FUNDS Last month I noted that Peace Preschool had a very
successful night at the Park Dance this year. When the
preschool brainstorms what to do with the funds, we
always try to think of upgrades that benefit both the
preschool and the church. This year the preschool
purchased:
12 brand new, lightweight Lifetime folding
banquet tables—this replaces the extremely
heavy, older banquet tables we had.
4 brand new Rubbermaid utility carts—this
replaces the old metal food trollies in the
kitchen;
1 top of the line, brand new floor buffer—to
replace the heavy old buffer that literally blew
up on our janitor, Mary!
We hope you get to enjoy these updates along with the
preschool staff.
RALLY SUNDAY CHURCH FAMILY PICNIC Peace Lutheran Church will be
hosting a church family picnic on
September 8th. A traditional picnic
lunch will be served by members of
the Leadership Team and the Mission
and Outreach Team. Lunch will be
served in the Social Center from
11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A short puppet show by the
Scott Street Puppeteers will provide entertainment.
Come and enjoy lunch with your church family. All are
welcome, we truly hope to see you there!

CURATOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
Early this summer I met with Abigail Miedaner who had
reached out to Peace to see our vegetable garden and to
share information about a new mission through Zion
Lutheran Church’s Jericho Road Ministries, Inc. which
was growing produce to share with the Oshkosh
community through the Lutheran Food Pantry program-- a
mission supported by Peace Lutheran Church. Through
this connection and conversation, the rain barrel that
had been purchased for the Peace Gardens was turned
over to the gardens cultivated by Jericho Road Ministries.
At Peace, the rain barrel was not properly collecting
water from our industrial gutters and therefore was not
being used for its intended purpose. With the proper
consent of the people instrumental in purchasing the
rain barrel, the barrel was moved to a new home and is
now in full use!
Abigail’s letter describing the purpose of the gardens
and how the rain barrel has benefited the program:
“The gardens are on the same lot as Second
Chance Thrift Store at 753 N. Main St. We
are growing in the greenhouse and in beds
outside. The produce we harvest is taken
next door to the Lutheran Food Pantry
located at 714 Division St. We serve 300—
400 families per month who are residents of
southern Winnebago County. The intent of
the gardens is to provide supplemental
fresh produce, and gardening opportunities
for any interested clients. We have had
several food pantry clients volunteer with
the gardens and have harvested several
times already this season. The rain barrel is
a fantastic addition and we are very grateful
for the donation!”
A LETTER FROM: ABIGAIL MIEDANER,
AQUOPONICS MANAGER FROM JERICHO ROAD MINISTRIES, INC.
A note about the new location of the Peace Gardens Rain Barrel:
PRAYER REQUESTS If you or someone you know (with their permission)
would like to be put on the prayer list, please contact
the church office either by phone (231-4730) or email
[email protected]. After four weeks, the name
will be removed unless the church is notified. This list is
open to all and categories are, but not limited to: health
recovery, military deployment, milestones, etc.
PLEASE PRAY FOR: Military Deployment: Matthew Berholtz, Karee Cocking,
Andy Duwell, Max Klein, Benjamin Zimmerman

Hospitalized: Herb Dieckmann, Kim Blake-Jungwirth
PLEASE LET THE OFFICE KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS HOSPITALIZED.
We most often don’t know someone is hospitalized
unless you call the church office. HIPAA regulations
have made it hard for us to get that information from
the hospital, they usually tell us no one is registered
when we make the daily call to them.
SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN Please notify the office if members of your
family are in the armed forces along with their
addresses. We want them to know we care.

cucumbers, peppers and onions.
Please take time to stop by and if you
see something you would like to
pick, please help yourself. Also, if
anyone has time, we could use a few extra hands
to help keep the weeds down. Any questions/
comments/suggestions ask one of the three or our
garden group: Steve Berholtz, Heather Miller or Kathi
Sawall.
DID YOU KNOW? You’ll get 91% more of the antioxidant
beta carotene from veggies like dark
leafy greens and carrots by mixing a
tablespoon of mayo into your
dressings and dips! That’s because fat
helps your body absorb certain
nutrients and mayo packs in the mono
and polyunsaturated fats—the healthy
types.
