Before performing any preventive maintenance hardware updates, it’s important to make a backup of the drive parameters and software. Backups are needed if the drive fails during maintenance, and to aid troubleshooting and repair work in the future.

Commonly needed software tools for making parameter backups include: Drive MS and DMS for SAMI STAR; DDCTool for ACV700; DMTPC500 for ACS500; Drive Window Light for Component AC drives such as ACS350 and ACS550; Drive Window and Drive Debug for ACS600, ACS800 and PVS800; DriveStudio for ACSM1, ACS850 and ACQ810.

Detailed instructions for making backups are included in drive specific preventive maintenance training material.

IHMM Legacy Drives includes a reporting template for all drives which are in the classic phase of their life cycle. Templates are based on Excel-macros and all types of drive modules are included. Module specific measurements and checks are included in each modules template.

Template usage was introduced earlier in the “LV AC drives preventive maintenance fundamentals” -training module.

-DSU and INU on-site testers

 DSU tester

performs a functional test of ACS800 DSUmodules

tests can be done on floor without refitting themodule in the cabinet first

useful when locating faulty components on theDSU module

 INU tester

performs a functional test of ACS800 INU andISU modules

module’s operation can be tested after serviceoperations with lower voltages before installingit to the cabinet

The portable DSU testing device makes it possible to perform a functional test of ACS800 diode supply modules.

The advantage of using this device is that after service operations the functional tests can be done on floor without refitting the module in the cabinet first. The tester is useful when locating faulty circuit boards, cables or other components on the DSU module.

The portable INU testing device makes it possible to perform a functional test of ACS800 INU (R7i and R8i inverters only) and ISU modules (IGBT supply units). With the tester the module’s operation can be tested after service operations with lower voltages before installing it to the cabinet.

-HW tools

 Use the correct tools

HW tools

To avoid mechanical damage, use the correct tools. Use a torque wrench for exact tightening, and the correct type of screw driver, such as Phillips-head or Torx. Note that newer drives use Pozidrive PZ heads instead of the Phillips PH heads. Using a Phillips PH head on a newer drive will damage the screws! Correct tightening torques are listed in drive type specific preventive maintenance material.

This slide shows an example of a drive-specific maintenance tool kit. There are several common tools which can be used with any drive type. Preventive maintenance and repairing require both common tools and drive specific tools.

The common tools include:

an ESD protective mat,

a wrist band,

earthing conductors and dissipative gloves,

a magnifying glass to check for connector corrosion,

a torque wrench,

static dissipative pointed pliers

and a torque spanner with insert accessories.

-ESD vacuum cleaner

Code:0006ESDDescription:MUNTZ 555-ESD-S-EType:ESD VACUUM CLEANER KIT

HW tools | ESD vacuum cleaner

For removal and collection of dry dust particles– For cleaning light, non-sticking

dust

The ESD-safe compact lightweight blower / vacuum cleaner is designed for the professional removal and collection of dry dust particles. It is most useful for cleaning light, non-sticking dust. When cleaning, do not touch components with the nozzle –use an ESD brush to remove dust from the board. Personal ESD protection has to be used. Very dusty or dirty units have to be cleaned in a certified repair center.

If larger areas are to be cleaned (e.g. cabinet mechanics), an industrial vacuum cleaner fitted with an ESD hose may be used.

Attenuation of the individualfiber is measured

– Is the signal power highenough for the receiver

to record the correct state of thesignal (”0” or ”1”)

The attenuation of a fiber optic link can be measured with a Tempo optical power measurement device. Note that only individual fiber’s attenuation can be measured with this measurement. Measurement is made to find out whether the signal power in the receiving end is high enough for the receiver. The signal power in the receiving end should be sufficient to record the correct state of the signal (0 or 1).

In practice, it’s not reasonable to measure everything. It’s enough to measure the fibers that are suspected of causing problems, or the fibers that are to be repaired.

Optical fiber measurement | Measurement device

 Light transmitter

 Optical power meter

 Adapters for HP Versalinkconnectors

To measure the attenuation of an optical fiber, you need the following hardware:

• a light transmitter (e.g. Tempo 253B),

• an optical power meter (e.g. Tempo 557B), and

• adapters for HP versalink connectors (e.g. 10ZP).

You can find the technical details of the devices in the PDF document attached to this presentation.

-Optical fiber attenuation measurement

Optical fiber measurement | Measurement device

Two possible measurements to define the”amount” of attenuation:

Comparative measurement by dB range to compare fiber to some

reference fiber

 Compare fibers to each others

Absolute light power measurement by decibel milliwatt (dBm) range to

define light power in the end of thefiber

Optical fiber measurement

There are two possible measurements to define the ”amount” of attenuation: comparative and absolute light power measurement.

• Comparative measurement by dB range to compare the fiber to some reference fiber

• Measurement is made by comparing several fibers of same purpose to each others to find the worst fibers.

• Absolute light power measurement by decibel milliwatt (dBm) range to define light power in the end of the fiber

Measuring the fiber optic linkattenuation (dB)

1. Set the reference Only if new reference is

needed, otherwise do notdo this

2. For detailed measurementinstructions, see the attachedPDF file

To measure the attenuation (dB) in a fiber optic link:

1) Set the reference if not set yet.

2) Measurement instructions are described in detail in the attached PDF document.

Measuring the fiber optic linkabsolute power (dBm)

1. Connect the measured opticfiber between transmitter andreceiver

2. See the attached PDF file fordetailed measurementinstructions

3. The lowest acceptable valuefor the fiber is -12dBm

To measure the absolute power (dBm) in a fiber optic link:

1) Connect the measured optic fiber between transmitter and receiver.

2) Make the measurements as described in the attached PDF file.

3) The value on the display should be less than -12 dBm. The value -12 dBm is the minimum value when changing the fiber needs to be considered.
