Judges of the Port Pirie Art Prize

HARRY SHERWIN

Harry Sherwin is a practicing artist resident in the Clare Valley of South Australia.

He was judged the winner of the Open Prize in the PPAP in 2014.

Harry has had an esteemed career in teaching as well as travelling in the UK, Europe and Asia to

enhance and advance his art practice.

He has exhibited extensively and is the recipient of many art prizes, awards and commissions in South

Australia and interstate and is represented in Art Collections in Australia, U.K. U.S.A, Denmark and

Germany.

1971-74 Advanced Diploma of Teaching (Fine Art) Torrens CAE, Adelaide, S.A.

1975-80 Art Master, Junior School, St. Peters College, Adelaide.

1980 Resigned from fulltime teaching in order to paint.

1983 Travelled and painted in Somerset, UK

1987 Painting trip through Thailand, Greece, Turkey and Egypt.

1995 Travelled to Europe on a study award. Attended Summer School at Edinburgh College of Art,

painted in Ireland and Italy.

MELINDA RANKIN

Melinda is the Director of the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery and former Director of the Hahndorf

Academy.

In these roles, she has worked in close collaboration with artists and communities, curating exhibitions

and managing public programs including workshops, residencies, art prizes and artist markets.

She is committed to the development of art and artists in South Australia’s regional communities and is

involved in the Regional Galleries Association of South Australia. Melinda has a Bachelor in Visual Arts

(Honours) and is also tutoring at the South Australian School of Art, UniSA.

KAREN ROHDE

Karen is a teacher, Co-ordinator of English and LOTE at John Pirie Secondary school and a life member

of the PPRAG and served on the Board for eight years. Whilst on the board she was creatively involved

in the photographic exhibition "Faces of the Smelter".

She has a love of the arts-theatre, dance and photography especially and have a deep appreciation of

visual art and artists and admire their skills and talents. Karen is also impressed with the creativity and

talents of young people in schools and also slightly envious of their abilities!
