Welcome to St. Rose
We are proud to celebrate the centennial of our church
this year. St. Rose is a historical landmark of the city of
Quincy. This church is considered as representative of
the Venetian Gothic style: a mix of Gothic,
Romanesque, and Byzantine styles. The 1912 stained
glass windows are characteristic of the Munich Pictorial
Style. This style is characterized by almost lifelike
images of saints and figures with landscape back-
grounds.
Before the church was reopened, 3 marble altars, a
matching altar rail, and a pulpit were installed. On June
10, 2012, our bishop consecrated these altars. This
beautiful ceremony included the celebration of a
Pontifical Mass with the conferring of the sacrament of
confirmation and an outdoor procession of the Blessed
Sacrament as we celebrated the solemnity of Corpus
Christi.
In the fall of 2012, we will begin a thorough restoration
of our windows. If you wish to know more about this
project, do not hesitate to take a copy of our Restoration
brochure in the vestibule of the church and/or to contact
us.
As St. Rose Latin Mass Community is not a parish but a
chaplaincy, when you join it, you remain a member of
your local parish. To join, just give us a call. After both
Sunday Masses, the community meets in the hall to
socialize. Everyone is welcome! Coffee & Donuts are
available.

Year of Faith: Oct. 11, 2012 - Nov. 24, 2013
"…They called the church together and reported what God
had done with them and how he had opened the door of
faith..." (Acts 14:27).
In the Acts of the Apostles, we learn that God has opened the
door of faith for the early Church. But did you know that God
has opened the door of faith for each one us and he invites us
to step through the threshold into a deeper relationship with
him. The upcoming Year of Faith is an opportunity for every
Catholic to turn towards Jesus Christ, encounter him in the
Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and rediscover the Faith
and Church.
With his Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011, Porta Fidei,
Pope Benedict XVI declared that a "Year of Faith" will begin
on October 11, 2012 and conclude on November 24, 2013.
October 11, 2012, the first day of the Year of Faith, is the
fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican
Council and the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the
Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are
asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and
the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the
faith.
"The 'door of faith' (Acts14:27) is always open for us,
ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering
entry into his Church."---Pope Benedict XVI, Porta Fidei.
The upcoming Year of Faith is a “summons to an authentic
and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the
world” (Porta Fidei 6). In other words, the Year of Faith is an
opportunity for Catholics to experience a conversion – to turn
back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him.
The “door of faith” is opened at one’s baptism, but during this
year Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and
rediscover and renew their relationship with Christ and his
Church.
To celebrate this Year of Faith and deepen our faith here, at
St. Rose, I propose 2 programs, one based on the
“Catholicism” series of Fr. Robert Barron. It consists of 10
high definition professional videos on the Catechism of the
Catholic Church. There will be only one class a month. The
other one is based on the series by Jeff Gavins on the
Gospel according to St. Matthew. It consists of 24 videos.
There would be about 3 classes a month. Both programs
will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. I invite you for a
short Introduction to both programs on Wednesday,
October 10 at 6:30 PM, the day before the Year of Faith
begins.

the same company who made and installed the windows a
century ago. The painting is done by Kemner & Associates of
Quincy.

Protecting God’s Children: Since the early 2000’s, our Diocese
has required that any person involved in a parish program that
serves children has to go through training and a background
check.
Beginning this fall the Diocese has required that anyone 18
years & older, who volunteers in any parish activities, be trained
through the Protecting God’s Children Program. Our Bishop
wants to create a culture of safety and protection for all
children.
The program is intended to equip parishioners with the
understanding of how to prevent abuse from happening, not just
to the children of the parish but to any child.
Protecting God’s children program focuses on 2 areas:
Gives the facts of child abuse and discusses detecting the signs
and symptoms of abuse and how to respond to it.
2012 Elections, FYI: I bring your attention to the editorial of
our Bishop in the last issue of Catholic Times (Sept 23, page
2). A few quotes:
“Much attention was given at the Democratic National
Convention held recently in Charlotte, N.C., to the fact that all
references to God had been purged from the draft version of the
party platform. After outcries of protest from outside as well as
within the Democratic Party, the sentence with the same
reference to God used in 2008 was restored to read, "We need a
government that stands up for the hopes, values and interests of
working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the
chance to make the most of their God-given potential." (…)
“Even more troubling is that this whole discussion about
God in the platform is a distraction from more disturbing matters
that have been included in the platform. In 1992 Presidential
candidate Bill Clinton famously said that abortion should be
"safe, legal and rare." That was the party's official position until
2008. Apparently "rare" is so last century that it had to be
dropped, because now the Democratic Party Platform says
that abortion should be "safe and legal." Moreover the
Democratic Party Platform supports the right to abortion
"regardless of the ability to pay." Well, there are only three
ways for that to happen: either taxpayers will be required to fund
abortion, or insurance companies will be required to pay for them
(as they are now required to pay for contraception), or hospitals
will be forced to perform them for free. Moreover, the
Democratic Party Platform also supports same-sex marriage,
recognizes that "gay rights are human rights," (…)
“Now, why am I mentioning these matters in the
Democratic Party Platform? There are many positive and
beneficial planks in the Democratic Party Platform, but I am
pointing out those that explicitly endorse intrinsic evils. My
job is not to tell you for whom you should vote. But I do have a
duty to speak out on moral issues. I would be abdicating this duty
if I remained silent out of fear of sounding "political" and didn't
say anything about the morality of these issues. (…)”
