Reframing Charlottesville's Public Space Narrative through Socio-ecological Public SpacesStudio 7010 | Elizabeth Meyer, Michael Ezban, Sara Jacobs | Individual Work
For residents of Friendship Court, the journey to IX Art Park is paved with adversities. Confusing guide signs, snapped sidewalk and unsafe car-driven road make parents have difficulty bringing their children to come. Additionally, jogging people in the morning tend to quickly pass through this hot concrete park due to the lack of enough shade.
Therefore, my design proposal aims to create a linear wall seat along the edge of slope on site, and particularly focus on two ends of seat for these two groups of strangers from opposite direction to encounter, linger and interact with seat. Trees with dense canopy and fountain would also facilitate higher level of both physical and emotional comfort for them.

Natural Paths: Systems of Sequence Studio 5020 | Leena Cho, Matthew Seibert, Brad Goetz | Individual Work
This studio focused on a series of layered approach for students to observe, deconstruct, research and finally design. I critically engaged with an assigned study area by creating notational maps and extracting the attractive elements based on virtual experience and research of understory vegetation. From these data, I developed a conceptual path system with a sequence of moments hidden and revealed that guided the viewers through seasonal transparency and landform by vegetation density, ecological structure and potential weathering in the scenario of climate change, ultimately leading to an end destination.
By experiencing a sequence of suspension, we are urged to approach, take a look of a mysterious but distinctive object that is hidden behind a mass of bush or trees. When we are at the space with low transparency, such as getting lost in the forest, we might feel scared and anxious. However, every intriguing moment of suspension and enjoyment on the path enables us to get more familiar with the site, and they will ultimately form a colorful and meaningful life walking experience. CAPPADOCIA: KARST LANDFORMGÖREME, CAPPADOCIA, TURKEYBINYU YANG, PIN HUI WANG
Ancient volcanic eruptions blanketed cappadocia with thick ash (tuff), which solidified into a soft rock, tens of meters thick. Wind and water went to work on this plateau, showing different erosion degree of tuff and basalt to form a fantastic karst landscape of cones, mushrooms and chimneys, which stretch as far as 130 feet into the sky.
