The State Council is cur- rently running a mission to provide a full container of wheelchairs in his honor ... that's 280 wheelchairs! If every council in the State purchased one wheelchair towards this mission, we would easily reach our goal, but we realize that many councils do not have the funds to enable them to do this. We here at Council 9139 are fortunate to be in a better position than many councils, and I would like to suggest that we donate $300 to purchase two wheelchairs for this mission. I raised this subject at the Planning Meet- ing on September 29th, and the offi- cers are currently considering how the funds could be raised. One suggestion was to ask the members for donations, and if you would like to make a contri- bution, or just express your support for this project, please contact me or any of the officers. The American Wheel- chair Mission, which is a partner of the Knights in this project, estimates that each donated wheelchair affects the lives of about 10 people ... family members and other support people needed by an immobile person. By this estimate the State Program will touch the lives of almost 3000 people. Regards, Dave Whatmuff tion. No one but God knows what our soul has received from him, not even we our- selves. But temptation reveals it in order to teach us to know ourselves, and in this way we discover our evil inclinations and are obliged to give thanks for the goods that temptation has revealed to us. (Origin) We can learn from temptation we can learn from sin. We learn in the Advent sea- son to await and watch through our prayer lives for the coming of Jesus into our lives, but also to avoid self-reliance and pride. The catechism teaches us: Such a battle and such a victory become possible only through prayer. It is by his prayer that Jesus vanquishes the tempter, both at the outset of his public mission and in the ultimate struggle of his agony. In this petition to our heavenly Father, Christ unites us to his battle and his ag- ony. He urges us to vigilance of the heart in communion with his own. Vigilance is “custody of the heart,” and Jesus prayed for us to the Father: “Keep them in your name.” The Holy Spirit constantly seeks to awaken us to keep watch. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2849) We by prayer recognize the Lord in our lives more and more. This then we recog- nize the Love and relationship we have more and more. With that love relation- ship we are satisfied and we don’t seek out other things to fill the seeming void. St. Paul offers us some encouraging words: Therefore, whoever thinks he is stand- ing secure should take care not to fall. No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the tri- al he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13). Blood Drive Thanks to all the Knights Family's for

helping to make this past blood drive a successful one. We reached 90% of the drive goal of 31 units.

We had 38 donors signed up, 7 Knights or Knight family members donate plus 4 additional Knights helped with the drive signup.

Unfortunately the drive started 30 minutes late due to a staffing problem but thankfully, we did not lose any donors due to that delay.

28 units of blood were collected sav-ing a potential of 76 lives. Unfortunately there were 7 no shows which prevented us from reaching 100% of the goal.

Thank you all for making a difference by participating in this charitable event.

WomenSourceBreakfast

The breakfast that we held for the benefit of WomenSource on October 25 was very successful. We served nearly 300 meals resulting in the Council being able to deliver $1,657.93 to Joanne Anders at Wom-enSource. A very sincere thank-you to all who worked and/or came to the breakfast. We also received a thank you from WomenSource for our con-tinuos support. Tom Clifford

Seminarian update Any support you can offer is, of

course, greatly appreciated as I contin-ue along the path that the Lord has set me on. I am doing well. Studies are, of course, very busy, but it is a blessing to have this time to learn more about the Lord and His Church, and to grow clos-er to him in prayer so that, hopefully, one day I can share the fruits with oth-ers as an ordained minister. If all goes well I hope to be ordained a deacon this Spring, a prospect at once daunt-ing and deeply exciting for me. It will be a joy to put all that I have received at the service of the Church, and the sustenance that I have received from the knights is no small part of that. Thank you so much.

Please pray for my health. I am generally doing well, but have experi-enced some residual post-concussion issues that have limited me somewhat. I hope to continue to get better so that I can serve with full energy in the future. But the Lord's will is always mysterious.

Thank you, again, for your sup-port. Know how deeply we appreciate all that you do as knights. I will ask around about other recipients, and will get back to you soon with some names and contact info.

in Christ, Bryce Evans
