Mother’s Day Día de la Madre
It is a joy to celebrate Mother’s Day, especially
during this month dedicated to our Blessed
Mother, Mary. On behalf of Fr. Thomas, Fr. Jim
and the whole parish staff, thank you to all
mothers who witness to us in such beautiful
ways. Your love and care for your children is an
image of the love of God. May you have a
blessed day.
I would like to welcome to our parish family our
new Director of Youth and Young Adult
Evangelization, Darby Heard. We are blessed to have
her here at St. Joseph serving our families, especially
our youth. May God bless her as she begins her work at
our parish.
Dios. Que tengan un día bendecido.
Me gustaría dar la bienvenida a nuestra familia
parroquial a nuestra nueva Directora de
Evangelización de Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes, Darby
Heard. Tenemos la bendición de tenerla aquí en St.
Joseph sirviendo a nuestras familias, especialmente a
nuestra juventud. Que Dios la bendiga al comenzar su
trabajo en nuestra parroquia.
Father J. Irwin
Our Blessed, Mother Mary
From Mary we learn to surrender to
God’s will in all things.
From Mary we learn to trust even
when all hope seems gone.
From Mary we learn to love Christ
her son and the son of God.
De María aprendemos a
entregarnos a la voluntad de Dios
en todas las cosas.
De María aprendemos a confiar
incluso cuando toda
esperanza parece haberse ido.
De María aprendemos a amar a
Cristo su hijo e hijo de Dios.
- John Paul II

Saint Joseph Confirmation Book This book is intended to be both a manual for
preparation for the sacrament of confirmation and a
remembrance of this important event in the spiritual life
of the confirmed Catholic Church. The special feature of
this book is the "Highlights from the Gospels" (part six)
which will enable you to refer to the sections of the
Gospels that can be used as a scriptural
accompaniment for each question of the Confirmation
catechism. It is a useful way of getting the candidates for
confirmation interested in the reading of Holy Scripture, this portion of the
book can be used for Bible Readings long after confirmation.

“LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” - Part 4 It would hardly be helpful to describe
symptoms without acknowledging the
human origins of the ecological crisis. A
certain way of understanding human life
and activity has gone awry, to the serious
detriment of the world around us.
(O ) u r i m m e n s e t e c h n o l o g i c a l
d e v e l o p m e n t h a s n o t b e e n
accompanied by a development in
human responsibility, values and
conscience. … It is possible that we do
not grasp the gravity of the challenges
now before us. …
The specialization which belongs to
technology makes it difficult to see the
larger picture. The fragmentation of
knowledge proves helpful for concrete
applications, and yet it often leads to a
loss of appreciation for the whole, for the
relationships between things, and for the
broader horizon, which then becomes
irrelevant. This very fact makes it hard to
find adequate ways of solving the more
complex problems of today’s world,
particularly those regarding the
environment and the poor; these
problems cannot be dealt with from a
single perspective or from a single set of
interests. … - Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis on Care
for our Common Home, nos.101, 105, 110, 113-114
Lighting the Way
There is a growing awareness that
scientific and technological progress
cannot be equated with the progress of
humanity and history, a growing sense
that the way to a better future lies
elsewhere. This is not to reject the
possibilities which technology continues
to offer us. But humanity has changed
profoundly, and the accumulation of
constant novelties exalts a superficiality
which pulls us in one direction. It
becomes difficult to pause and recover
depth in life. … Let us refuse to resign
ourselves to this, and continue to wonder
about the purpose and meaning of
everything. Otherwise we would simply
legitimate the present situation and need
new forms of escapism to help us endure
the emptiness. …
Nobody is suggesting a return to the
Stone Age, but we do need to slow
down and look at reality in a different
way, to appropriate the positive and
sustainable progress which has been
made, but also to recover the values and
the great goals swept away by our
unrestrained delusions of grandeur.
