Damai STARS Programme

The Damai STARS (School Timeout for At-Risk Students) Programme is a support programme designed to equip at-risk students with social emotional competencies and academic foundation skills so that they may become committed, competent and compassionate learners.

The programme serves 2 main purposes:1) reduce attrition by developing students’

sense of self and character, and rekindling their interest in learning.2) equip students who regularly display

delinquent behaviour with social and emotional skills to help them manage their behaviour within and without the classroom environment.

Damai STARS ProgrammeCriteria are as follows:

• A. Attendance of less than 75% in previous academic semester

• B. Lack of motivation as shown through: Poor academic results at previous semestral examination – i) Overall percentage less than 45.0%; and ii) 2 or fewer subjects passed• C. Lack of motivation as shown through: i)Conduct grade of ‘Fair’ or less• D. Recalcitrant disciplinary issues as shown through: i) Any two of A, B, C or D ii) More than 3 discipline cases / referrals from teachers in last semester
