Israeli bombers are grounded The Saudi air corridor offered Israel for an attack on Iran reported in the London Times of Saturday, June 12, was an old story rehashed by Riyadh in the hope of egging the US and Israel on to break free of their self- imposed restraints and halt Iran’s drive for a nuclear bomb before it is too late. debkafile’s Middle East sources report the explosive developments of the last two weeks, primarily the meteoric rise of a thrusting partnership between the two non-Arab powers, Turkey and Iran, have badly rattled Arab capitals, especially when they see the Obama administration and Netanyahu government immersed in tying themselves and each other in knots over the format of an inquiry into Turkish flotilla incident. The London Times reported that Saudi Arabia had conducted tests to stand down its air defenses to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Riyadh was said to have agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran. To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defense systems not activated. “The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a US defense source in the area. Sources in Saudi Arabia say, “It is common knowledge within defense circles in the kingdom that an arrangement is in place if Israel decides to launch the raid. Despite the tension between the two governments, they share a mutual loathing of the regime in Tehran and a common fear of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.” debkafile adds: Appearing in the week UN sanctions were approved against Iran, this report amounted to a Saudi no-confidence vote in its value. Low expectations of the sanctions are no secret in Washington either. According to the New York Times, the Obama administration has prepared Plans A, B, C. and D, if sanctions fail to stop Iran’s push for a nuke. No details were published, but the NYT quoted Barak Obama as noting in April: “…once Iran passes a certain point, it may be impossible to know when it has taken the last steps to manufacture a (nuclear) weapon.” This did not stop defense secretary Robert Gates speaking after a NATO meeting in Brussels on June 11, from whipping out the rusty device beloved of the Bush administration: “I think everyone agrees we have some more time, including the Israelis. …I would say the intelligence estimates range from one to three years.” In the Middle East meanwhile, events are rushing forward with explosive haste, impelled in the last ten days by the Turkish-led flotilla for breaking the Gaza blockade and the Israeli commando raid to intercept it. The rise of the Turkish-Iranian alliance has not only thrust America and Israel to the wings the Middle East stage, but is deeply alarming Cairo, Riyadh, the Gulf emirate and even Syria. They suddenly see Prime minister Recep Erdogan and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dictating the region’s agenda with no one there to stop them. Within days, the balance of power in the region has been reshuffled to extend way beyond Tehran’s hand on Hizballah’s levers in Beirut and the Palestinian Hamas in Gaza. Iran has acquired an important member of NATO as a proactive ally. Gates’ only comment on this development was: “I was disappointed by the Turkey vote on the Iranian sanctions. That said, Turkey is a decades-long ally of the US and a member of NATO. Turkey continues to play a critical part in the alliance.” Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and defense minster Ehud Barak are just as laggard in addressing the formidable new axis looming over the region and the Jewish state, in particular. They are too busy quibbling with Washington over the shape of the impartial commission the UN has demanded for probing Israel’s actions against the Turkish-led flotilla of May 31 – though certainly not, perish the thought, Turkey’s role or the Erdogan government’s close ties with the IHH terrorists aboard the Turkish ship. What Netanyahu and Barak have not told the public is that the dickering with the Obama administration has dragged out for five days because the US wants the impartial commission empowered to question the Israeli officers and soldiers who raided the Mavi Marmara in a clash which left 9 Turks dead, and several wounded including six Israel commandos. If Obama has his way, Israeli soldiers will for the first time face questioning by American and European investigators. Israeli leaders understand that compliance would add fuel to the international campaign for de-legitimizing the Jewish state as a sovereign state and respectable member of the world community of nations. The Israelli Defense Forces would be further immobilized under a sustained international campaign to discredit them on the lines of the Goldstone report on the Gaza war – only this time Washington is taking the lead in the de-legitimacy campaign. With no one apparently available for keeping Iran out of the nuclear club, Riyadh did what it could. Using the London Times platform, Saudi Arabia’s princely rulers opened the door to positive action in order to lift morale in the oil kingdom and its army and remind Washington, Jerusalem and the other Middle East players that soft sanctions need not be the last word; they are offering Israeli bombers a corridor for striking Iran’s nuclear facilities and chance to reshape the region’s declining reality. debkafile adds: The air corridor is now clearly open but still unused. There appears to be no one in Washington or Jerusalem willing or able to order the bombers to take off. via docstalk.blogspot.com Posted via web from noahdavidsimon’s posterous Hija del Zion para Israel Support Israel April 11 Links April 11 Links Cast Lead Aftermath: Anti-Semitism on the Rise World-WideReport notes â??rampant ignorance of political and historical facts among contemporary youth, for many of whom Israel, Zionism... When Rabbis Attack: Standing Up for CharlesJacobsby NoahDavidSimon (Hija delZion para Israel - Daughter ofZion for Israel)

Submitted at 6/12/2010 7:33:00 PM

The name Charles Jacobs should be afamiliar one to readers of this blog.Charles Jacobs, founder of The DavidProject, co-founder of the Bostonbranch of CAMERA and theAmerican Anti-Slavery Group, andnow Americans for Peace andTolerance. I would hazard to say, without any exaggeration at all, thatCharles Jacobs has done as much ormore for the Jewish People (andWestern Values in general) off thepulpit than any other single person inNew England. Unfortunately for Charles, and moreimportantly, for us all, Charles Jacobss t e p p e d o n t h e t o e s o f t h eMassachusetts left-wing Rabbinicalestablishment with his recent column:What’s up with Deval Patrick? In thecolumn, Jacobs addresses the politicalcontroversy stirred up by GovernorDeval Patrick’s recent visit to theIslamic Society of Boston Mosque.(More on that in the videos below.)Along the way, Jacobs called outsome of the local religious leadershipwhich has credulously run toward thecliff in allowing themselves to beused as a whitewash for some of themosque’s radical connections, manyof whom should well know better.Jacobs even had the temeri ty(honesty) to call Rabbi Eric Gurvis byname. Read the linked column. What’swritten about Gurvis may sting forthe truth of it, but it can hardly becalled a substance-less personalattack. Not so the response it has garnered, however. Not allowing any slight to gounpunished, seventy of Gurvis’colleagues — most of them on theliberal left-wing of the Reform andReconstructionist movements — havecounterattacked with an open letter, printed in the same local paper thatJacobs’ column originally appearedin. I have pasted the letter and thecomplete list of signatories at the endof this post. Please review the list tosee if your Rabbi is on it. The Rabbis call the Jacobs column a“vicious, personal attack,” when itwas anything but. In fact, it is theseRabbis who are guilty of committinga scurrilous personal attack on a manwho has put more on the line for thiscommunity than most of them canever hope to do in their lifetimes.Their letter is devoid of any responsewhatsoever to the substantive mattersthat Charles Jacobs has exposed.Their letter is a reply the nature ofwhich ought to be beneath the dignityof Jewish clergy. They didn’t respondthis way when it was brought to lightthat patrons of this mosque were

preach ing the wors t k ind o fdespicable Jew hatred. No, these“ leaders” who have e leva ted“dialogue” and “interfaith relations”to the level of a fetish have reservedtheir worst invective for a man whodared simply to criticize one of theirguild. They have utterly abdicatedtheir responsibility to protect theirown community in favor of goodr e l a t i o n s w i t h t h e M u s l i mBrotherhood and a few friendly photo- o p s , e v e n s t o o p i n g t o t h ecommandeering of Torah verse as abludgeon, a blackjack employed inthe service of their personal vendetta. Where have they been as theWahhabis have built the east coasts’largest Mosque? Silent. Hiding.Complicit. And they dare attack theone man — more leader than any ofthem — who was willing to puthimself and his own reputation on theline when none of them would?Shame on them. The fact is theyknow they’ve lost authority, thoughtheir own inaction, to this unordainedlayman…and it galls them. They have so badly forgotten thattheir primary responsibility to the restof us is not comity at all costs, but tospeak the truth and stand for ourcommunity, that they have cast theirsense of propriety to the wind andshamed themselves. Again I ask, is your Rabbi on thelist? Here is everything you need to know.First, watch this excellent video ofCharles discussing matters with BillWhittle of PJTV. Jacobs is eloquentand measured throughout: Second, here is that Americans for

Peace and Tolerance video about thePatrick visit to the Mosque. This isthat painful substance the Rabbiswish to ignore: By the way, even the lefty BostonPhoenix assails the Patrick visit to theISB in an excellent editorial entitledMickey Mouse Multiculturalism Now, here is that “Rabbinical” letter: Rabbis come to the defense of acolleague under fire We write in defense of our colleagueRabbi Eric Gurvis. Rabbi Gurvisleads Temple Shalom of Newton, ist h e p a s t p r e s i d e n t o f t h eMassachusetts Board of Rabbis,Boston Area Reform Rabbis andcurrently serves as the president ofthe Newton Clergy Association. He isa distinguished teacher and respectedcommunity leader. We were shocked and appalled bythe vicious, personal attack written byCharles Jacobs and printed in The Jewish A dvocate. We denouncethis attack and call upon Mr. Jacobsto discont inue his destruct ivecampaign against Boston’s Muslimcommunity, which is based oninnuendo, half-truths and unprovenconspiracy theories. We call uponmembers of our community to rejectthe dangerous politics of division thatMr. Jacobs fosters. Rabbi Gurvis stood with a number ofus at a recent interfaith pressc o n f e r e n c e , d e n o u n c i n g t h ei n a p p r o p r i a t e w o r d s o f agubernatorial candidate who impliedthat addressing a large group ofM u s l i m s w a s “ p a n d e r i n g t oterrorists.” Just as we rabbis wouldexpect Christians and Muslims to

stand with us Jews if we wereunjustly held accountable for theactions of a handful of our people,Rabbi Gurvis stood with our Muslimneighbors. In fact, he pointed out thatwhen Temple Shalom was defaced bya swastika, one of the first calls hereceived was from Bilal Kaleem fromthe Muslim American Society. During these difficult times, RabbiGurvis, along with other courageousreligious leaders, is attempting tofoster a different kind of politics. Wesupport his commitment to interfaithdialogue and cooperation. We standtogether in our commitment to acommunity in which neighbors seekto know one another and join togetherfor the common good. We write these words following theweek in which the Torah portion wasShelach Lecha. It tells the stories ofthe Israel i te scouts who wereovercome by fear. As a result, they“spread calumnies” among the entireIsraelite camp, who in turn broke outinto loud cries and weeping. Becausethey succumbed to their fears, G-dcondemned this generation to die inthe wilderness. We refuse to allowMr. Jacobs to spread his calumniesand paralyze our community in fear. We the undersigned rabbis supportRabbi Eric Gurvis and walk togetherin faith. (Institutional affiliations arelisted for identification purposesonly.) The letter ignored every concern weraised about the MAS – its Saudifunders, its extremist leaders, itsconnections to terror and hatespeakers. Instead, the rabbis whowrote it, accused me falsely ofwaging a campaign to defameBoston’s Muslim community. Theserabbis should have known, withminimal fact-checking, that I havebeen consistent in my positions: Ibelieve the radical leaders of MASBoston are first and foremost a threatto Boston’s historically moderateMuslim community. The best way tofight this threat is to support the truemoderates and reformers of Islam. This is a major component of theAmericans for Peace and Tolerancemission and activity. Yet the rabbisirresponsibly claimed that I amdefaming all Boston Muslims. Thiskind of slander can play right into thehands of MAS radicals, who may usethis letter to incite Muslims againstAmericans for Peace and Toleranceand me. Their letter is untrue, inappropriate, and unbecoming forJewish leaders. The letter also contains a bizarreinterpretation of a Biblical story tojustify the rabbis’ misguided attack. Itis hard for me to believe that thesigners actually read their own letteror thought through the weirdlyconstructed Biblical analogy. I thinkmost signed on to support theircolleague, Rabbi Gurvis. Others mayhave been motivated by progressivepolitics, political correctness, and thedesire to show their universalism.N o n e o f t h e s i g n e d l e a d e r sapproached Americans for Peace and

Tolerance to get the facts about theMAS’s Imam Faarooq. You can read the rabbis’ letter, which will appear in today’s JewishAdvocate, below [ above -MS]. Youmight also want to review our videoand my op-ed discussing therelationship between the Governorand the MAS, as well as criticizingRabbi Gurvis’s support for the MAS. As you know the Jewish communityis under siege, and it is unfortunatethat we are so divided. I hope youwill take the time to call or write therabbis who signed the letter and urgethem to withdraw their names, to seekout the truth about the MuslimAmerican Society and Imam Faarooq, and to join us in countering theradicalization of the Boston Muslimcommunity… Update : Another wor thwhi leresponse: To the Editor, on yourrecent article, “Rabbis come todefense of a colleague under fire” (6/11 issue), With all due respect, I invite the 70rabbis who signed the open letter,“Rabbis come to defense of acolleague under fire,” (6/11 issue), toreexamine Charles Jacobs’ assertionsin his article, “What’s up withPatrick?” Jacobs’ main point was notto discredit Rabbi Gurvis’ pastservice to the community or to wagea “destructive campaign againstBoston’s Muslim community.”Rather, Jacob’s main point was tobring to light the danger of closingone’s eyes to these specific RoxburyMosque l eaders ’ documentedassociation with, and support of,global radical Islamic terror groupsand indicted and jailed terrorists, suchas Aafia Siddiqui. Jacobs does notbase his assertions on innuendo orhalf-truths. Instead he has madeavailable numerous FBI and courtdocuments, public information, andvideos, which everyone should readbefore criticizing Jacobs (see hisw e b s i t e ,w w w . p e a c e a n d t o l e r a n c e . o r g ) .America is under attack both fromwithin and without by radical Islamicterrorists whose goal is to destroy ourlives and our freedom. We mustn’tfalsely accuse or limit freedoms ofany Muslim citizen simply becausehe/she is Muslim. But every politicaland community leader – indeed everycitizen – must be on the alert forthose who are found to support actsof terror and anti-Semitism, and becareful not to embrace them as our co-laborer of peace. Nor should weaccept them as speaking on behalf oftruly moderate Muslims who supportevery citizen’s security and libertyunder the US Constitution. Rev. How the Road to Socialism is Pavedby Daniel Greenfield @ theSultan Knish blog (Hija del Zionpara Israel - Daughter of Zionfor Israel)

Submitted at 6/12/2010 8:13:00 PM

One of the more insidious aspects ofthe government takeover is how suchtakeovers are pitched as reforms. Ofcourse reform traditionally applies toinstitutions reforming themselves orbeing reformed by their constituentsor shareholders . The idea ofgovernment reforming the privatesector smacks of unlimited authority, which is exactly what it is. And so agovernment that cannot reform itself, that cannot stop its out of controlspending, its constant legislativecorruption, its culture of pork andkickbacks, its compulsive need toappropriate power, sets out to insteadtake over every aspect of life withinthe country in the name of reform. Can an alcoholic who can’t stopdr ink ing , t each o the r s to beteetotalers? Can a compulsivegambler who drops 10 grand a weekin Vegas, regulate the gamblinghabits of others? Only as an exampleto others of how bad things can get.But though the government cannotregulate itself, it insists that it canregulate everything outside itself. Theblind leading the blind is bad enough, but what are we to make of the blindleading those who can actually see. That’s what government regulation is. But the reform pitch is part of thewhole ins id ious premise tha tgovernment is protecting the peoplefrom being exploited by acting as areferee on their behalf. It’s soinsidious because it’s both deceptiveand appealing. Most people have felttaken advantage of by corporations. And indeed we do have a legalsystem in order to avoid criminalexploitation. But what governmentrefereeing does, is blur the linebetween the cr iminal and theunethical, and between the unethicaland the profiteering, thereby creatinga mandate to not only crackdown oncriminal actions, but on acts that areunethical or just greedy. For example, reformers may beginby exposing an insurance companyforging documentation to avoidpaying claims, an illegal act, tofocusing on misleading claims madeby insurance representatives, anunethical act, to campaigning forlower insurance rates, an area that isnot illegal or unethical, but a questionsimply of profit. By exploiting thiskind of s l ippery s lope, ent i reindus t r i es have been heav i lyregulated, even in areas well outsideof the government’s purview. The scandal generated by exposingillegal activity is used by advocatesfor a government takeover to regulateunethical and profiteering behavior, which they all class together as proofof malfeasance. By doing so theydefine both legal and illegal behavioras illegal, because it is rooted in the

desire for profit– an essentiallysocialist position. Going back to themuckrakers, socialists discovered thatthey could create an impetus forsocialism by delegitimizing the profitmotive, and the best way to do so wasto begin by building their case aroundblatantly criminal activity and thenmove down the ladder to attackingthe basic idea of capitalism itself. The overall target was of course thefree market, promising the people thatgovernment would act as theirguardian, protecting them withregulat ion from the abuses ofcapitalism. The genuinely deceptivething however, was that politicianswere making the same offer tocompanies, promising to act as theirreferee to protect them from theirrivals, their workers and theircustomers. What was actual lyhappening was that government wasinserting itself as the “referee”,promising to protect the differentsegments of the free market fromeach other. So politicians “protect” consumersfrom companies by price controls, while protecting companies fromtheir competitors by creating de-factomonopolies through legislativel o o p h o l e s , a n d t h e n p r o t e c tcompanies from consumers by tightlyregulating what products consumerscan buy. ObamaCare, which bothimposes price controls and forcesconsumers to buy health insurance, isa typical example, in which thegovernment as referee screws overboth sides, while giving them bothsome seeming advantage. In realityboth sides are worse off than before, and only the politicians and theircamp followers gain from theregulat ion. And that is how it began. Retailerswere promised protection fromdistr ibutors. Distr ibutors werep r o m i s e d p r o t e c t i o n f r o m

manufacturers. The public waspromised protection from all them. Ofcourse this called for reams andreams of legislation. And thatlegislation called for more legislation. And the politicians and officials incharge of the process naturallywelcomed lobbyists from varioustrade and consumer groups to“explain” their positions them, saidexplanations usually accompanied bydonations and pledges of politicalsupport. By placing itself as the referee, government had a court in whichcases went on forever , whi lecollect ing “fees” from all thelitigants. In Dickens’ Bleak House, there is the case of Jarndyce andJarndyce, a lawsuit involving aninheritance that has dragged on forgenerations, and eventually leavesnothing to the descendants who havebeen fighting for it, but is entirelyabsorbed by the judges, the lawyersand the assorted camp followers ofthe legal system. So too the Americanpeople are discovering that the“inheritance” of their economy isvanishing into the maw of thegovernment that promised to getjustice for them. The fees are paid out in campaigncontributions, in taxes collected tofund the expanding regulatorymechanisms and in the invisible tolladded to all economic transactions bythe regulations themselves. That isbecause any regulatory mechanismalso becomes part of the system. Eachregulation changes the way the freemarket works and the way thatcompanies and consumers behave, asboth continue to strive to gainmaximum advantage for themselves.Since each regulation also adds moreexpenses to both sides and blocksareas of commercial competition, both sides become more creative andthus also more deceptive. But rather

than making economic competitionbetter, more regulation actuallymakes the competition worse. Andthis provides grist for the reformer’smill, who pile on more regulations, which only makes the matter worse. The next step leads to the blackmarket, with the most regulatedeconomies, such as the USSR, alsofeaturing a thriving black market.Because regulations don’t changehuman behavior, they just change thecontext in which it is expressed, andthe strategies it employs. By position itself as the referee, government has expanded wellbeyond its constitutional boundariesinto socialism. And it has done so byplaying on the fears of bothcustomers and companies, promisingan orderly and tightly controlledmarket, for the highest bidder ofcourse. The government promiseslow prices and available products tocustomers. And then raises their taxesand gives multi-billion dollar grantsto corporations, or just bails them outwhen those regulations help insurethe i r fa i lure . The resul t i s adiminished availability of products, much higher prices when accountingfor inflation, and a culture ofentitlement among both companiesand the public, in which both sidesfeel entitled to use the government toexploit the other. Which is exactlywhat the “referee” wants, becausethen it has them right where it wantsthem. Socialism requires simply that themajority believe that they will bebet ter off having governmentdispense the work of others to them, rather than working for themselves. And the “reformers” have convincedlarge numbers of Americans of justthat. The results can be seen in anendless assortment of consumergroups that promise us the solution toa l l p rob l ems i s t o have t hegovernment regulate every singlething that companies do, and they canbe seen in companies with CEO’swhose main strategies are to hirelobbyists, outsource the actual laborto China and then leave with a goldenparachute on their least profitablequarter. This is what happens whenpeople cease to believe in working fora living, and come to believe that thegovernment is their best economicsolution. This week in the news, SenatorSchumer has announced that he willinvestigate an airline’s carry on bagfee. While the first reaction of manypeople may be that such a fee isrepugnant, have they considered howmuch they’ll be paying for theexpanded government regulatorymechanisms. Or how much they’llpaying when that airline’s lobbyistsagree to get rid of the fee and insteadtake home a bailout instead? Becausethere is no such thing as a free lunch. You can buy lunch or you can get it

Firas Press reports that Hamas isrefusing to allow shipments into Gazaof cheese, milk, juices, detergents, soft drinks and biscuits – items thatup until now had been restricted.

The reason? According to the article, factory owners are pressuring the defacto Hamas government not to allowthese items in. because those importswould compete with their factories, hurting the Gaza economy and (theysay) forcing them to lay off workers. My guess is that taxes going to propup the Hamas government hassomething to do with this as well…

Ignoring the elephant in the roomby Carl in Jerusalem (Hija delZion para Israel - Daughter ofZion for Israel)

Submitted at 6/12/2010 7:38:00 PM

Ignoring the elephant in the roomLaura Rozen has an account of AbuMazen’s meeting with ‘AmericanJewish leaders’ this past week. It’spretty much stuff we’ve all heard(and I’ve blogged) earlier this week, until this little bit at the end. Aaron Miller writes in response thatAbbas was “playing to his strengthsand trying to cultivate the image of awise and beneficent Palestinian leaderreaching out, in contrast to thebrashness and defensiveness [of] theIsraeli Prime Minister.” But, Miller continued, “none of thiswill make a bit of difference. Whatcounts is Abbas’s capacity to makedecisions (and Bibi’s of course).” That would be Aaron David Miller, former peace processor. And that gotme thinking about this piece ofanalysis by Herb Keinon thatappeared in the weekend JPost. For all the damage the flotillaincident has caused Israel, and thedamage is not inconsiderable, onepositive side effect may be theplacing of Gaza on the internationalagenda, and not only the Gaza thatthe Turks and the Palestinians wantthe world to see: the Gaza ofdeprivat ion, the Gaza withoutcoriander seeds or soda pop. The incident has also brought intofocus the Gaza ruled not by thegrandfatherly Abbas, or the Westerntechnocrat PA Prime Minister SalamFayyad, but ra ther by Hamasterror is ts . One of the inexplicable dimensions

of the diplomatic efforts since theAnnapolis conference in late 2007has been the degree to which theinternational community continues totalk about a two-state solution, and apeace process, without taking intoconsideration that there are twoPalestinian authorities: One in theWest Bank and the other in the GazaStrip, and that these two groups loatheach other, don’t recognize theother’s authority and – after monthsand even years of trying – have notbeen ab le t o r econc i l e t he i rd i f f e rences . Everyone talks about two states, onefo r J ews , and t he o the r fo rPalestinians. But what about Gaza?Who rules there? How do you wrestcontrol of Gaza from Hamas? Thoseare crucial questions representing ahuge elephant in the negotiatingroom, and a re ques t ions thein t e rna t i ona l communi ty ha s

consistently ignored.“The flotilla presents a clear imageproblem for Is rae l ,” sa id theEuropean diplomat quoted above.“We in the West were looking awayfrom Gaza and the blockade, as longas there were not hiccups in theimplementation of the blockade. Butbecause of the flotilla we cannotignore it anymore, because there isgrowing pressure from our publicopinion.” But by the same token, if theEuropeans can’t ignore the blockadeanymore, they – and the US – canalso no longer ignore the place ofGaza, or the problem it presents, inthe diplomatic process. Or , a s a h igh l eve l I s r ae l igovernment official pointed out thisweek, the issue now is much broaderthan the flotilla, it is on Gaza andhow that impacts on the diplomaticprocess.

“If there is going to be an easing ofthe blockade,” he asked rhetorically,“how will that change Gaza, how willthat strengthen Hamas, how will thatimpact on the Palestinian Authority? This all touches on the Palestiniantalks. Everything is connected.” Miller is right. The truth is that AbuMazen has no mandate to negotiate. His term in office expired more thana year ago. He doesn’t control Gazaand he only controls Judea andSamaria because the IDF is there. It’sall connected. With whom are wenegotiating? German TV exposes IHH for what it isby Elder of Ziyon (Hija del Zionpara Israel - Daughter of Zionfor Israel)

Submitted at 6/12/2010 7:52:00 PM

Barry Rubin summarizes: The three German leftist activistsinterviewed claimed all participantsw e r e f r o m h u m a n i t a r i a norganizations and talked about all thefun they’d had. They had no interestin knowing that they were being used. The show then contrasts this withmaterial about the extremism of theIHH, which organized the trip. Thoseabout to depart on the ship—whoshortly thereafter would be attackingthe arriving Israeli soldiers—chanted,“Oh, you Jews.…the army of theprophet Muhamad will return–justlike in Kaibar [where Jewish menwere massacred and women andchildren forcibly converted and soldin to s l avery]….In t i f ada un t i lv ic to ry!” For the mili tants, this was arevolutionary act, a raid, not ahumanitarian mission. Of course, the

vast majority of those on the shipswere just trying to do a good deed, but they were not the ones whodetermined that the outcome wouldbe a violent confrontation. Mete Cubukcu, editor-in-chief ofNTV, one of Turkey’s largesttelevision networks, explains how theIHH, which organized and led theflotilla, is linked to radical groups andJihad fighters, including those whomurdered a beloved Armenianjournalist . Then there’s the interview with IHHand flotilla leader Yildrim on boardthe Mavi Marmara (3:40). He saysthey know Israel will stop the shipand that when this happens, there willbe huge demonstrations throughoutthe world. The show then interviews MichaelKiefer, a left-wing expert on Islamfrom Erfurt University. He says thatthe Turks on board were not peaceactivists as this term is understood inthe West, but people advocatingviolence and revolutionary activity. What’s most ironic is that many of

the Turks on the ship were from theIHH and an extremist nationalistgroup, the BBP. Three years ago, theleft-wing party to which the threeGerman participants belonged appliedto the German government to labelthese groups as “racist” with a“propens i ty for v io lence andtotalitarian structures based on theführer principle” equivalent to aGerman neo-Nazi movement. When asked by a German televisionreporter: “You seem not to havebothered from the outset about whowould travel with you,” AnnetteGroth, the left-wing member ofparliament who was on the shipangrily ended the conversation. Sheand her colleagues didn’t want toknow how they’d served as humanshields for violent groups acting insupport of a terrorist, racist group,Hamas. Those in the media who continue tocover up or ignore these facts shouldbe asked why, to paraphrase theGerman reporter’s question to Groth,“You seem not to have bothered by

the nature of the extremists, terrorists, and antisemitic groups for whomyou’re making propaganda. Some encouraging news aboutIsraelby NoahDavidSimon (Hija delZion para Israel - Daughter ofZion for Israel)

Submitted at 6/12/2010 5:27:00 PM

Clarice Feldman This past week was full of the usual:Double standards being applied tocast Israel as a vicious, law-breakingstate and more threats from Iran to analready besieged country. Yesterday, there were two bits ofencouraging news. First, at almost thevery place where the flotilla of thugsand useful idiots were engaged by theIsraelis (well within its territorialwaters) there has been a major gasfind which should meet its criticalenergy needs.… a gigantic deposit ofnatural gas called Leviathan, 6.5times the size of Tel Aviv, was found, roughly 100 nautical miles fromwhere the flotilla fiasco took placeand well within Israel’s extendedterritorial waters. This discovery mayprovide Israel with security in termsof its supply of electricity, turn it intoan important natural gas exporter andprovide a shot in the arm of some$300 billion over the life of the field– one-and-a-half times the nationalGDP – to the Israeli economy, already one of the most resilient inthe world. More importantly, this discovery isnothing short of a geopolitical gamec h a n g e r . T o u n d e r s t a n d i t smagnitude, consider this: The world’sbiggest gas discovery in 2009, 238billion cubic meters, was made by aU.S.-Israel consortium at a site calledTamar, 60 miles off the coast ofHaifa. The nearby Leviathan field isestimated to be twice that size.Altogether the basin in the eastern

Mediterranean to which those fieldsbelong could contain an amount ofgas equivalent to one-fifth of U.S.natural gas reserves. For a smallcountry like Israel, such a bonanzacould not have come at a better time.Secondly, there is evidence that thecertain but secret cooperat ionbetween Israel and the Arab stateswhich see Iran as a threat has notbeen damaged by the Turkishconn ive r s . Saud i Arab ia hasconducted tests to stand down its airdefences to enable Israeli jets to makea bombing raid on Iran’s nuclearfacilities, The Times can reveal. Inthe week that the UN SecurityCouncil imposed a new round ofsanctions on Tehran, defence sourcesin the Gulf say that Riyadh hasagreed to allow Israel to use a narrowcorridor of its airspace in the north ofthe country to shorten the distance fora bombing run on Iran. London School of Economics:Pakistan’s ISI “is providing funding, training and sanctuary to the Talibanon scale much larger than previouslythought” Pakistan, for its part,“rejected the claims as part of amalicious campaign against thecountry.” In other words, it’s businessas usual. The only thing that changesis that the Taliban get stronger.“Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency’supports’ Taliban,” by QuentinSomerville for BBC News, June 12: A new report claims to provide themost concrete evidence yet of directl inks be tween Pak is tan’s ISIintelligence agency and the Taliban inAfghanistan. The report says the ISI is providingfunding, training and sanctuary to theTaliban on scale much larger thanpreviously thought. The document was prepared by theLondon School of Economics (LSE). A spokesman for Pakistan’s militaryrejected the claims as part of a

malicious campaign against thecountry.‘Rubbish’ The report’s author spoke to nineTal iban f ie ld commanders inAfghanis tan ear l ier th is year . He concludes that Pakistan’srelationship with the insturgents [sic]runs far deeper than previouslyrealised. Some of those interviewed suggestedthat the ISI even attends meetings ofthe Taliban’s supreme council. Theyclaim that by backing the insurgentsPakistan’s security service is trying toundermine Indian influence inAfghanistan. The report concludes that without asignificant change in approach byP a k i s t a n , b o t h t h e A f g h a ngovernment and in te rna t iona lcommunity will find it impossible toend the insurgency in Afghanistan. The spokesman for Pakistan’smil i tary said the claims were“rubbish” and part of a maliciouscampaign against the country’smilitary and security agencies. Erdogan’s hypocrisy While Turkey’sTayyip Recip Erdogan criticizesIsrael’s treatment of Hamas, the WallStreet Journal reports that his owntreatment of the PKK is no better (fullarticle here for those who don’t haveJournal access). The Middle Eas t ’ s reg iona lsuperpower has again deployed its airforce to bomb a rebel groupconsidered by some to be terroristsand by others to be freedom fighters.Another Israeli air strike on Gaza? Not quite. The attacker is the Turkish air force, which on Monday bombed PKKpositions in northern Iraq for thesecond time in a month. The PKK, or“Kurdistan Workers’ Party,” has beenfighting Ankara for more than 25years to carve out an independentKurdistan. Its ideology is a mishmashof Maoism, nationalism and, morerecently, Islamism. Its methods areguerrilla warfare, hostage taking, drug trafficking and terrorism. Tensof thousands of Turks have beenkilled in the fighting. So it is with good reason that Turkey

will neither recognize nor negotiatewith the PKK, much less accept thelegitimacy of its cause. And whilesome European governments havegone wobbly over the PKK, the U.S.has been stalwart in siding withAnkara. So has Israel, which over theyears has provided Turkey withmi l i t a ry and coun te r t e r ro r i s ta s s i s t ance .… T u r k i s h g o v e r n m e n t s o n c eunderstood this, as they understoodthe benefits of siding with the Westand Israel against regional radicals. Not so current Prime Minister RecepTayyip Erdogan, who has taken upthe anti-Israel banner with a relishbefitting his new friends in Tehranand Damascus. The Israeli raid on theGaza-bound Turkish flotilla last weekhas given Mr. Erdogan anotherchance to vent against the Jewishstate and champion Hamas. Howeverwell Mr. Erdogan’s dalliance withIslamic extremists plays at home, theworld can plainly see his doublestandard. The world may be able to see it but
