BRING A FRIEND TO CHURCH!

FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Before I became the pastor of Incarnation and Director of the Diocesan Liturgy Office I used to have a lot more

free time. I would love to go to the city at least once or twice a week. Some times I’d meet people for lunch or dinner;

other times I would see a show or movie. Most often, though, I would spend time just walking along the Hudson River

Park or take a few laps around Central Park. I’ve always loved the city.

On occasion I would see them on the LIRR or the subway, I’ve seen them sitting on a park bench and even once

I saw one walking. Who did I see? I saw people praying the rosary. They weren’t “in your face” about it. They were

just praying on the way to work or sitting under a tree. But they were praying nonetheless. I can remember the

instances rather vividly because I was so inspired.

October is associated with Our Lady and her Rosary. Last week on October 7th, the Feast of Our Lady of the

Rosary, Incarnation Catholic Academy gathered in church to pray the rosary. Parishioners were present in the evening

to do the same. Yesterday crowds gathered in the parking lot to be united in the rosary as they prayed in diverse

languages. Not just in October but Monday through Saturday throughout the year the rosary is recited at 8:10AM in the

church.

When was the last time you prayed the rosary? Have you ever prayed it together as a family? The beauty of the

rosary is the simplicity of the prayer and its accessibility for all of us. It’s the perfect prayer that allows one to pray the

prayers as one moves along the rosary beads, but also to meditate on the various mysteries associated with our salvation.

If ever needed, the pamphlet rack in the church vestibule often has leaflets that can help understand better the

rosary. If the internet is your thing, I googled “how to pray the rosary?” And twelve reliable websites popped up.

It can be prayed quietly alone, in a group like at school or at a rosary rally, or at home with family or friends.

It’s one of the Church’s most precious and enduring devotions. And it’s literally at the tips of our fingers. Give it a try

this October. I guarantee it will be the best twenty or so minutes of your day.

And remember whenever you do pray it, you wont be alone. They are out there—more often than you might

think. Devoted Children of the Mother of God/

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary– Pray for us!

THE ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL: FAITH AN GOOD WORKS! Please join us in our support of the various ministries and outreaches of the diocese which cannot be undertaken alone here

at Incarnation. Use the form below and simply put it in an envelope marked “Catholic Appeal,” drop the gift in the collec-

tion and the parish will send it to the Appeal Office. Envelopes are also by the doors of the church today. You may mail

your pledge directly to 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Our Parish Goal is 500 pledges. Please be one of

them. Give a gift today. All monies collected over goal will stay here at the parish and will go to help pay off the school

roof project. Even a small or one tine gift is both needed and most appreciated.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Vo-

tive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a

Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a contin-

ual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and

offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and

gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle

stands now hang in our church on either side of the newly

restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and

inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illu-

mination to insure your Living Light burns brightly

throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of

your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be

mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques

will remain for the year you have secured your Living

Light and may be renewed or rededicated for additional 12

month periods. In addition to its rightful place before

your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One,

Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the

Living Light Section of the Parish Website. See the blue

The Shepherd Speaks

The Bible cannot be just the heritage of some,

much less a collection of books for the benefit of a

privileged few. It belongs above all to those called

to hear its message and to recognize themselves in

its words. At times, there can be a tendency to monopolize the

sacred text by restricting it to certain circles or to select groups.

It cannot be that way. The Bible is the book of the Lord’s peo-

ple, who, in listening to it, move from dispersion

and division towards unity. The word of God unites

believers and makes them one people.
