Overview of NSS Camp

Seven days NSS special camp was organized by NSS unit of CCET (Degree Wing) Sector-26,

Chandigarh from February 16, 2018 to February 22, 2018 with the motive of inculcating a spirit of

service to the society among students. The theme of the camp was “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and

Digital India Cashless Cashless drive” as approved by State NSS Cell, UT Chandigarh.

The camp focused on various activities related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and awareness about

benefits and use of cashless methods for making transactions. Further, the issue of women

empowerment was also be addressed. Various expert talks on cashless India, Skill development,

cleanliness, and health and women empowerment were held. Number of Cleanliness drives was

organized at different places in Kishangarh. Awareness drive about cashless methods of transactions

were held by shop to shop visit in Kishangarh. Apart from these activities, Blood donation camp, daily

yoga sessions, Self Defense Training for girls were special attractions of as a part of camp activities.

A cloth donation and book donation drive was also held. Students visited and interacted with students

of blind school in Sector-26 Chandigarh also.

DAY 1 : 16-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 1 i.e. 16-02-2018, the NSS Camp was inaugurated. A Tree plantation drive was held.

Volunteers attended Honorable Prime Minister’s live session on Stress free examinations. A seminar

on cashless India was delivered by SBI, Sector-26, Chandigarh. E-Slogan and Poster making

Competitions were held along with Swachhta and BHIM app promotion in campus.

1. Inauguration of NSS Camp

The seven days NSS camp was inaugurated by Sh. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer, NSS

(Chandigarh), Dr. M. S. Gujral, Principal (CCET), Ms. Madhu, Assistant Program Advisor ,NSS

Chandigarh and Dr. Gulshan Goyal, NSS Program Officer (CCET). The inauguration started by

lamp lightening followed by NSS Song presented by NSS Volunteers and the vision document of

camp activities was released. State Liaison Officer while addressing the volunteers appreciated the

NSS Unit of College for participation in social activities from time to time. Swachhta pledge was taken

by all honored guests, Faculty members, staff members and NSS volunteers. Various cultural

performances like songs and poems were presented by the volunteers on the camp theme. NSS song

performed by the students. Inauguration was concluded by National Anthem.

3. Seminar on Cashless India

A highlight of the activities was a highly motivating seminar held by an SBI official Mr. Ishaan

Chhabra from Sector- 26, Chandigarh branch on the need and benefits of Cashless India. This

Interactive session held all the necessary details regarding the initiatives by the government of India to

promote digital transactions.

4. Session on stress free examinations

Volunteers attended the live session of Honorable Prime Minister of India on Stress free

examinations.

5. E-Slogan and Poster making Competition

A competition on E-slogan making was held in the College premises on the theme of ‘Swachh Bharat

Abhiyan and Digital India Cashless Drive’. Poster making competition comprised of students

making posters which were used during awareness rally in the adopted village of Kishangarh. The best

posters were awarded.

6. Swachhata and BHIM app promotion in College

As rightly said, ‘Charity starts at Home’, the motive of the camp was promoted in the college premises.

College students were made aware of Swachhata and BHIM app by the volunteers of the camp. A large

number of students downloaded these apps and understood the importance of cleanliness and digital

transactions.

DAY 2 : 17-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 2 i.e. 17-02-2018, the NSS volunteers organised Cleanliness Drive at different places at

Krishnagar. An Awareness rally was also organized in Kishangarh. Volunteers performed a Street Play

at Kishangarh to spread awareness among local residents. An expert session on Skill India was also

organized.

1. Cleanliness Drive at Kishangarh:

A cleanliness drive was held at Kishangarh village. It comprised of volunteers actively performing

cleaning activities at different places in Kishangarh as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Students

were successful in cleaning the local areas dumped with garbage. A rally was therefore driven to make

people aware of the importance of cleanliness. The response came out very positively as people were

able to share their views and were accepting the idea of cleanliness very openly.

2. Awareness Rally at Kishangarh:

Volunteers created awareness among local residents of Kishangarh by organizing a rally in internal

streets of kishangarh to spread awareness about cleanliness, digital India and Beti bachao, Beti Padhao.

3. Street Play at Kishangarh

With the sole mission of spreading awareness, a special street play was held at Kishangarh. Through a

very entertaining play, community was given a message of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ which was the

sub-theme of the NSS camp. Volunteers presented this play, which was thereafter very much

appreciated by the people.

4. Skill India seminar:

Followed by the activities at Kishangarh, an interactive seminar was delivered to the volunteers by Mr.

Vivek (NULM society, Chandigarh) on Skill development in Student life. A highlight of this event

was to inculcate a sense of social service in students and also motivation to indulge them in the

development of highly skilled co-curricular tasks.

DAY 3 : 18-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 3 i.e. 18-02-2018, the NSS volunteers organised an Awareness drive in Kishangarh.

Volunteers visited shop to shop to create awareness about cashless methods for transactions.

Volunteers also told the benefits of Swachhta app to local residents.

1. Awareness Drive at Kishangarh

A door to door survey and awareness drive was held regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Digital

India initiative. This survey was held door to door in order to understand how much impact the apps

launched by government have on the residents.

On finding a number of people devoid of the facilities provided by these apps, volunteers actively

took an initiative to help people use the apps for their benefit. This drive gave an opportunity of one to

one interaction to the students.

Cleanliness Drive in Campus:

Quiz on Theme:

After this drive, a quiz was held in the college campus to check the volunteer knowledge on the theme

of the camp. This quiz comprised of questions on Swachhata Abhiyan and Digital India applications.

DAY 4 : 19-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 4 i.e. 19-02-2018, the NSS volunteers visited to school for blind children in sector-26,

Chandigarh. A seminar on women empowerment was organized. A Cleanliness Drive at CCET

Campus was also organized by NSS Volunteers. Completion of green belt initiative was accomplished

during the fourth day of the camp.

1. Visit to Institute for blind

The volunteers of NSS camp made a visit to the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26 with the motive to

encourage the institution kids to build their talents as well as spend some quality time with the blind

and partially blind students present there. This humble task was taken up by the volunteers to motivate

a kind cause of creating a healthy environment for the students to grow.

1. Seminar on Women Empowerment :

A seminar on Women empowerment was thereafter held by Advocate Anamika Mehra(Punjab and

Haryana High court) to make the girls aware of their legal rights and then discuss the present

scenario of the society for the better growth of women. She made a very generous effort to aware the

female candidates step up and build themselves for a better future. There was a discussion about some

of her personal life experiences which helped a lot in laying foundation of empowerment in daily lives

of women.

DAY 5 : 20-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 5 i.e. 20-02-2018, a Blood Donation Camp in Association with GMCH-32, Chandigarh was

organized. More than 80 Units of blood were collected.

Blood donation drive:

The NSS Unit of CCET (Degree Wing) Sector - 26 Chandigarh organized a Blood Donation Camp in

collaboration with GMCH - 32 Chandigarh on February 20, 2018 in college premises. The Blood

Donation Drive was inaugurated by the Principal Dr. M.S. Gujral, NSS Program Officer - Dr Gulshan

Goyal, Dr. Sunil K. Singh, HOD (CSE) and President Student Council Dr. Radhey Sham. More

than 80 units of blood were collected by GMCH- 32 Team. Along with NSS volunteers, other

students, faculty and staff members donated blood. All blood donors were given certificates, pens and

refreshment.

DAY 6 : 21-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 6 i.e. 21-02-2018, seminars on electoral literacy and legal awareness were organized. A cloth

donation and books donation drive was undertaken in nearby slum areas.

1. Seminar on Electoral literacy

This seminar was held by Mr. Jiten Kumar in response to spreading awareness to the voters about

their legal rights and enable them to enroll for the voter-id cards thus explaining the importance of

having the right to vote. This seminar provided the students with the requirements of filing for the

elections, the procedures of getting a voter’s identity and various other needs.

2. Legal Awareness seminar:

Honorable Sh. Amarinder Sharma(Chief Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Service Authority)

enlightened the students with a very special seminar on cyber crimes in our daily life and how as youth

we can tackle such criminal activities. They made the student body aware of the para-legal activities

that can be done to provide help to the society. This seminar was helpful towards building a positive

spirit of helping the society.

3. Old clothes and books donation:

Old clothes and books were collected and donated in the slum areas surrounding the college locality.

This was done in response to a special cause of providing basic necessities to the ones incapable of

tackling the daily life demands.

DAY 7 : 22-02-2018

Overview of Activities

On Day 7 i.e. 22-02-2018, the valedictory ceremony of NSS camp was held. Winners of different

competitions were given awards. Volunteers also presented different activities undertaken during the

camp in the form of video presentation. Volunteers also formed human chain to write NSS.

1. Closing Ceremony:

The valedictory ceremony of Seven Days NSS Camp on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Digital

India Cashless Drive” was held at CCET (Degree Wing) on February 22, 2018. NSS Unit presented

the glimpses of camp activities in the form of video clips. Dr. M.S. Gujral, Principal, CCET (Degree

Wing), Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Professor Incharge (Student Welfare) and Dr. Gulshan Goyal, NSS

Program Officer distributed the prizes to winners. Principal congratulated the NSS Unit, volunteers

and all the winners for successful organization of camp. Volunteers also formed human chain.

Regular Activities

Regular day activities were initiated every day in the camp. There were two major sessions comprising

Yoga and Self-defense training for girls held in the beginning and end of the special activities

respectively.

Yoga Sessions:

Refreshing Yoga sessions marked the beginning of every day in the NSS camp. The students were told

the various benefits of yoga in their day to day life. They were told various asanas to distress

themselves from the hectic study schedule.

Self Defense Training for girls:

One-week Self-defense training for girls was organized in the college Campus. This training is being

conducted under the camp under the theme Women Empowerment. This training is provided by UT

Police Chandigarh daily towards the end of the camp.
