    Riding the Rails in Baden-Wrttember

    One of the convenient aspects ofliving in Stuttgart is the pub-lic transportation system. Theregional train system and its

    uburban railway system or S-Bahn tracks

    pan from Bietigheim to Echterdingen androm Schorndorf to Herrenberg. It is easy tomaneuver around the city and outlying sub-rbs without a car.

    The bus system, which complements the S-Bahn system, and reaches even farther into themaller farming communities.

    The VVS (Stuttgart transportation network)prides itself on being a reliable, easy to usepublic transportation system that lets travel-rs get from point A to point B without muchuss.

    The DB (Deutsche Bundesbahn) on thether hand, offers a ticket that can take visi-ors throughout Baden-Wrttemberg. The BWicket is an effective, economical way to getround for one day. For 29, up to five travel-rs can use it on an unlimited amount of trainoutes and subways within Baden-Wrttem-berg on the day of the purchase (weekdaysrom 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. the next day and on

    weekends, midnight to 3 a.m. the next day).The ticket is valid on all local trains (Inter-

    egio-Express, Regional-Express, Regional-ahn, S-Bahn) and the entire transport system

    f the Verkehrsverbnde (public transportationystems). The BW tickets will take travellerss far as Wrzburg and Basel.

    Travelers can explore the Black Forest, theRhine River Falls, Lake Constance, the Swa-

    bian Alb and the royal residence in Wrzburgall on one ticket, within the time frame speci-fied.

    In some states, you can buy a supplementticket for 13 to be able to take Inter Regional-or express-trains. Prices, terms and conditionsmay vary from state to state.

    Another added bonus is that the ticket of-fers some discounts at various locations. SeaLife in Konstanz offers a 30 percent discount

    on its entrance fee; save 1 off the entrfee at the at the Heidelberg castle ruins, anthe Residence Wrzburg, or enjoy a five (Swiss francs) discount at the Basel Zoo.

    ab dry and put in a bowl. In amall pot, add vinegar, water, saltnd sugar and bring to a boil.

    Peel the onions and slice them

    into rings. Add the onions to themeat. Cover the meat with thewater and vinegar, bay leaf, pep-

    per and allspice.Cover the bowl tightly and let

    the meat marinate in the refriger-ated for five to seven days.

    Take the meat out of the mari-nade and dry well. Brown the meatin a medium size pan in oil. Strainthe liquid marinade and add theliquid to the meat. Cover the panand let the meat simmer for twoto three hours. Add the sugar beet

    syrup 30 minutes toward theof the simmer time.

    Take the meat out of theuid, slice, and set aside.

    Thicken the sauce withflour until desired consistenreached.

    Sept. 2 to Nov. 6: Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival

    Millions of years ago Tyrannosaurus Rex, Diplodocus andTriceratops roamed the earth, and this fall they return tothe castle gardens in Ludwigsburg during its 12th annualumpkin festival.

    Over 450,000 pumpkins of more than 450 different types totalinglmost 150 tons make up this years dinosaur theme pumpkin exhibit.The organizers of the pumpkin festival develop these themes over

    span of 11 months; order the pumpkins to be grown in the rightorm, color and weight, to be able to deliver a memorable visit for theestivals guests.

    This years highlights of the festival include a pumpkin boat racen Sept. 18, the German pumpkin weight championships on Oct. 2,he European championships on Oct. 9, and the pumpkin smash on

    Nov. 6, where visitors can purchase the seeds of the smashed pump-ins for next years contest.

    The festival also features a pumpkin shop where visitors can shopor autumn decorations, and a restaurant featuring delectable pumpkin
