Grateful Stewardsof God’s Gifts . . .

Laura Humphries,Parish Life & Stewardship Director

He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why doesthis generation seek a sign?” MK 8:12

I am certain that I have exhausted and exasperated Jesuswith my desire for a sign. It is a mark of my feeble faith thatI want him to close all the doors but one or shine his lighton each step I should take, clearly articulate his instructionsor cajole me with confirmation after confirmation. I want tobe absolutely sure, absolutely safe.

And yet, being absolutely sure and safe leaves no room forfaith. Sometimes we have to step out into the unknown, taking a risk and trusting that Jesus will meet us along theway and nudge us as needed. This kind of couragetransforms feeble faith into bold belief. We don’t need toseek signs. We need to seek our Source.

An excerpt from Living Faith

We are all given a beautiful gift when we receive the gift offaith. As parents it is our responsibility to give our faith, thebelief in Jesus to our children. We must teach our childrenright from wrong, good from bad, and that God will be withthem no matter what. His love is unconditional just as anyparent’s love is.

Some people’s faith leaves them when times are bad butthat is when we must cling to our God and pray for his help.Jesus always walks alongside of us, unfortunately we don’talways believe that he is there but he is. God is our Father,he is our loving, devoted Father who will never desert useven when we believe that he has. We may not see thesign from him, but believe that he is there even when weexhaust him with our unbelief.
