Nobles,

The cornerstone is an important symbol in Freemasonry. As an Entered Apprentice you were symbolically placed in the Northeast corner of your Lodge to signify the beginning of your Masonic journey. Last month the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Roger B. Quintana, officiated at the laying of the cornerstone of our new building marking the beginning of Salaam Shrines rebirth. It was an impressive ceremony and an enjoyable day.

Salaam Shrine had always been a focal point for fraternal family fun. Some of that luster faded when we lost our magnificent Livingston property. You older members certainly remember the good times we had at the Ambassadors Hawaiian Nights, the Stewards Fish Fries, the Clown’s Valentine’s Dance, Lakeland’s bus trips and our annual picnic. You newer members need to talk to “the old guys” and find out how much fun and excitement you’ve been missing. It’s time to bring the shine back to Salaam! Why did you become a Shriner? To pay dues and carry a card? Of course not! C’mon out and help us rebuild!

We’ve lost some of our units along the way but Motor Corps, Clowns, Potentate’s Aides, Legion of Honor, Shepherds, and the renowned Oriental Band are all in need of new members. If you have a musical bent the Chanters and Field Music could be re-started. The Provost Guard, Patrol and Stewards would be a welcome re-organization along with the Ambassadors, and Chef’s Club. Some of our clubs are for Nobles and their ladies. The Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes, a dinner, bowling and social group; Prill’s Still, a hillbilly social club; Suds Over the Oasis, a beer-brewing and dinner club; and the Fly-Fishing Club are fun groups that will welcome new additions.

Call the office at 973-992-1111 or call me directly at 973-901-8866 for information.

Beginnings ALWAYS require involvement to move forward successfully. Your help would be most appreciated over the rest of this year as we complete our move from Fairfield and set things up anew in Whippany. This is YOUR Shrine. Come out and make it a success!

ALSO - LAST CHANCE TO RESERVE YOUR TICKETS FOR THE POTENTATE’S BALL!

Nobles, please find the below dates for our future Stated Sessions

• Friday, September 28th @ 6:30 PM (376 Hollywood AVE, STE 108 Fairfield, NJ 07004) • Monday, October 15th @ 6:30 PM • Friday, November 16th @ 6:30 PM • Friday, December 7th @ 6:30 PM (Stated Session and Election of Officers)

* All ladies will be allowed to attend our Stated Session meetings in October, and November with the exception of December’s meeting due to elections. Also, dinner will be provided for all of those whom R.S.V.P. after the meetings are adjourned.

I hope you are enjoying our new publication. We’re always on the lookout for improvements so please send us your suggestions. AND - If you can spare the time, we’d like your help with the mailing - please contact the office. Our publication will be mailed out every 1st of the month and you should receive it prior to the 6th of every month. As we get settled into our new quarters your help is urgently solicited to help us get up and running. Please call and volunteer.

YITF,

Ill. Sir Louis A. “Tunes” O’ Neill

Try Webfez Now

Nobles:

Exciting news from Imperial. The WebFez portal that (not enough of) you are using is being enhanced to allow you to pay your dues from the comfort of the recliner in front of the TV in your den! This new feature will be announced formally in a few days at the Imperial session in Daytona Beach. Salaam Shrine has been asked to be the ‘guinea pig’ to test this application during its beta phase because we are already in the forefront of using the Wholly App web portal for communications and payments. (Wholly App is partner in the development of this improvement.) Here’s the email I received from the development team leader, Randy Baron.

Doug, It was a pleasure speaking with you today. Thank you for agreeing to be the first temple to use the WebFez on-line payment integration. First, let me introduce the people on the cc: line of this email and their roles. First is Steve Gainey, the Director of Fraternal Information Systems for Shriners International. Yenifer Aponte is the programmer on my team who has worked on the WebFez side of the payment integration. Keith Melfi is our Technical Support Coordinator. Mike Werner is the owner of EMS, the company that will process the credit card payments (and that developed Wholly App). Aaron Carpenter is the programmer working with EMS on their end of the WebFez integration. All of us are very excited to be rolling out this new feature.

As I explained on the phone, using WebFez on-line payment integration, when a noble makes a payment from within WebFez, that payment will be processed by EMS (just like in Wholly App) and, upon payment confirmation, the

noble’s payment and balance information will automatically be updated in WebFez (he will actually see his balance reduced by the amount of the payment, hopefully to $0.00), he will receive a receipt via email and a notification will be generated and placed in the WebFez Notifications screen advising staff that the payment was made. The temple will still

receive the batch reports of payments, just like with Wholly App. Additionally, nobles can still make payments through Wholly App but, for now, those payments will still need to be manually entered into WebFez.

Note that the button will just say Pay My Bill. We are also debating whether to show button even with a $0.00 balance in case the noble wants to pre-pay or make a donation.) Next is the payment entry screen:

Data in the left panel, email address and the Dues Amount box will be pre-populated. Total to be processed will update as amounts are entered or changed.

If you haven’t already signed on to WebFez please do so. This will make all our lives easier as we leap into the 21st Century.

Message from the Nominating Committee on Elections

Dear Ill. Sirs and Nobles:

During December 7th Stated Session, We will elect the Illustrious Potentate, Chief Rabban, Assistant Rabban, High Priest & Prophet, Oriental Guide, Treasurer, and Recorder, the “Official Divan.” We will also elect 2 Representatives to the Annual Session of Shriners International, “Imperial Reps.”

To be a candidate for the office of Potentate, you need to have completed your service as Chief Rabban or Assistant Rabban for at least one year.

For any other positions, the only requirement is being a Noble in good standing. No one is “entitled” to any position. We encourage all Nobles with the desire to serve to place your name in the hat. May the best men win.

You can help strengthen our fraternity if you are dedicated to our cause and mission, qualified (as defined below) and willing to give of your time and talents. The decision to run for the Official Divan can be a life-changing decision that should not be entered lightly. It requires special thought and consideration about the commitment of serving as an officer of Salaam Shriners – an experience that is truly beyond measure.

Before making the decision to run for Divan, prospective candidates should be aware of the family, time, financial and temple commitment needed to run for office. The support of your Lady is vital. Our Ladies are a source of support, strength and ability. Your Lady must be in complete agreement with your decision to run for Progressive Divan. Should you be elected, both you and your Lady will be highly visible representatives of Salaam Shriners, not only to our nobility and their Ladies, but also to the public.
