1 Crook County 4-H Clover Youth of the Month-Molly Gaynor Molly has been nominated for “taking on a mentorship role during fair. She lead by example with a smile and goes above and beyond.” Great work Molly! This is Molly’s 4th year participating in Crook County 4-H. She is a member of the Cattle Drivers and Vets 2 Be 4-H Clubs. She says, “ I have learned so much about raising and showing steers. With the sale of my steers, I have started my own herd of cattle and plan to show a breeding pair this year as well as a market steer.” She also mentions, “This could not be done without the amazing support of all the 4-H buyers in this area.” Molly is also expanding her knowledge of animals, preparing her to pursue her future career in Veterinary Science. College Scholarships

Attention Juniors and Seniors

State Scholarships

The State 4-H Program in Oregon offers scholarships to college-bound high school seniors who are currently enrolled in the Oregon 4-H program, and have been members for a minimum of three years, including the current year. Specific eligibility information for each scholarship can be found on our website. Application must be approved and signed by the 4-H agent. There are several Crook County scholarships available to 4-H youth. All scholarships, applications and

If your 4-H club uses the 4-H Clover Building for meeting please

remember the following guidelines for use:

1. Clean up after yourselves

2. Wipe down the tables

3. Sweep the floors

4. Mop the floors

5. Take out the garbage

6. Replace the garbage liner

7. Turn the heat back down if you turned it up

Camp Tumbleweed March 26-29

Attention 4th-6th graders, its time for Camp Tumbleweed! This awesome camp is designed especially for

you and will be held at Camp Tadmor in Lebanon, Oregon. During camp you will be grouped with other

4-H’ers your age from across the state! We have six Crook County teens serving as camp counselors this

year, all excited for you to join them over spring break at Camp!

Online registration opened on February 1st and the registration fee is $190. During registration, please

enter code “4HCamp100%”. When you complete online registration, payment is

due in full to the Crook County Extension Office by March 15th. Scholarships are

available from the Crook County Leaders Association and applications are due by

March 8th. Applications can be found

The theme for camp this year is “Full Steam

Ahead!” During Camp, youth can expect to

learn new skills during classes, have fun using

the low ropes course, explore the forest during

group hikes and much more! Youth will be

grouped with a teen camp counselor who will

guide them through camp. Youth do not need to

be currently enrolled 4-H members to

attend camp.

4‐H Record Book Resume Reaza Mansur Join Reaza to learn how to Create a 4‐H Resumé. Your resumé is an opportunity to show your strengths, skills, talents and crea vity. You want to stand out and be remembered and at the same  me present yourself professionally.  Bring your record book! Abstract Watercolor (Limit 20) No art skills needed! We will be learning about Alma Woodsey Thomas’ “signature style of large, abstract pain ngs filled with dense, irregular pa erns of bright colors” while we design and paint watercolor masterpieces inspired by her work. Open to Cloverbuds on up to adults. Adult Workshop Home Depot This cra y workshop is for adults.  The descrip ons will be available January 30.  In the past we have made chalkboards, beverage crates, learned about storage and organiza on and other fun ac vi es. Ages 16 and up 

 All About Goats Judy Hacke  This class will be all about the goats we love.  We will cover all breeds and purposes for having goats.  We will  also cover health, nutri on, and how to show your goat at fair.  Our younger members will share their first year experiences and we will have some goats in a endance.   Animal Chiroprac c Presenta on Sean Scaramuzzo, DC Muzzo Chiroprac c is a mobile chiroprac c service that operates in Central Oregon providing chiroprac c not only to humans, but animals as well.  Currently, the Animal Chiroprac c profession is s ll in its infancy, and is steadily growing as more chiropractors and veterinarians are prac cing animal chiroprac c.  This presenta on will focus on what chiroprac c is, how chiroprac c benefits animals, why an animal would need chiroprac c care, and what you may see in your animal that is an indicator they need a chiroprac c adjustment.   Also, we will have a live demonstra on of a chiroprac c adjustment on a dog! Q&A will be the last 10‐15 minutes of the presenta on.  Basic Leathercra (Limit 20) Cascade Leather Ar sans Have you ever wanted to learn about Leathercra ? Now is your opportunity! Come and learn an interes ng leathercra  technique. Par cipants will make a unique leather item.   Beef Nutri on Greg Roush Join Mr. Greg Roush of Purina Mills and expand your knowledge of bovine nutri on.  This class will cover the nutri onal needs including grains, minerals and hay, for bovine of all ages.

Each class will be 50 minutes long with a 10 minute break between classes.   Classes begin at 9 am. There will be an hour break for lunch at noon. Classes will end at 4 pm.

CCI (Cascade Culinary Ins tute) Cooking Demo (Limit 20) Cascade Culinary Ins tute  Come see a cooking demonstra on and get an idea of what culinary school is all about!  Chef Yeatman, a professor from CCI will show you the ropes.  Plus, you get to sample the demonstra on work!  Clipping and Fi ng Your Market Goat Jessica Simpson The main objec ve of fi ng market goats is to make the goat look its very best. There are things you can do to give your animal and yourself every possible advantage. Come learn the skills from an experienced showman.  College 101 Charisa Hohman Are you headed to college soon?  Come learn how to acclima ze yourself to a ending college and have your ques ons answered.  Cooking Challenge Reaza Mansur Come learn about the new  Cooking Challenge that will replace the Iron Chef Compe on at the county and state fair levels.   Cupcake Wars (Limit 20) Reaza Mansur Cupcake decorators compete to see who can design and decorate the best cupcake to match the secret theme!  Cupcakes, fros ng, and objects needed for the challenge will be supplied.  Cuts of Meat Lance Hill, Redmond FFA Advisor There's a lot to think about when it comes to cuts and quality of meats.  Join Mr. Hill to learn to iden fy the different wholesale and retail cuts of lamb and pork.   Dog Grooming (Limit 15) Sarah McCoy Grooming should be an enjoyable experience for a dog.  Come learn the basics of gentle friendly dog grooming; your dog will beg for a bath!    Dog O’bility Carol Falleur Come learn about games and tricks you can do with your dog to develop strength and agility as well as develop a be er rela onship between you and your dog. We will demonstrate strength training and do some agility exercises to help your dog be more fit.

Dog Therapy Basics Fred Olson Dogs have been assis ng humans since the beginning of recorded history. They have helped us work and provided us with companionship and li ed our spirits. If you want to become a therapy team with your dog, you must both complete thorough training.  This can be the first step or just an opportunity to learn about dog assisted therapy.

Educa onal Display Crazy Quilters 4‐H Club Learn how to make your display stand out in a crowd.  We will talk about color and design, content and target audience and most importantly have examples for you to see and touch.  With a few simple rules to follow, you too can have an outstanding display. 

Equine Nutri on Greg Roush Join Mr. Roush of Purina Mills and expand your knowledge of equine nutri on.  This class will cover the nutri onal needs in the Pacific Northwest, including grains, minerals and hay, for equine of all ages.   

Excava ng Fossils Be an archaeologist or just look like one!  Join us in this class to learn about how fossils are found and excavated and make one of your own to take home! 

Fashion Revue Chandra Worman & Hannah Mansur This class will prepare you for the new 2019 Fashion Revue rules and procedures at County, State, and Na onal levels, as well as informa on about the Make It With Wool Contest.  We will also have a Fashion Revue demonstra on along with  ps and techniques to be successful! 

Fecal Floata on Cera Lamken Fecal flota on is a rou ne veterinary test used to diagnose internal parasites or "worms." The test detects the eggs of mature parasites that live inside the body and pass their eggs to the outside by shedding them into the host's stool. (2 HRS)

Felted Soap Cera Lamken Have fun and be crea ve in this fun hands on class.  Felted soap is a bar of soap wrapped in plain or dyed wool that has been ma ed together.  Felted soap is slightly exfolia ng, but s ll so  like a washcloth and the wool has an microbial proper es as well.  

First Year at Livestock Fair Judy Hacke  and Goats Galore Learn what to expect your first year at fair for livestock projects.  Just some great sugges ons to make that first year a li le easier to navigate in the livestock world. 

Flavored Vinegar (Limit 15) Master Food Preserver Flavored vinegars can add dis nc ve taste to your favorite recipes.  Plus they are fun to make! In this class you will  get an overview of flavored vinegar making and make your own flavored vinegar to take home. 

Fun Fabric Patches (Limit 20) Becky Smith Use fusible web on fleece fabric to applique cut out fabric designs to make a fun patch that you can frame or use as part of a quilt or  pillow project at home.  

Fun with Makeup (Limit 10) Jessa Learn the right skin care rou ne for your skin type, learn the right type and shade of founda on, and learn color applica on that enhances your features.  We will also cover fun cosme c  ps for special occasion makeup. Models will be pulled from the class for demonstra ons. Ques ons and answer  me at the end of our session as me allows.  

Gak, Flubber and Slime (Limit 25) Youth Leadership Team Ever wonder what makes Gak slippery, Flubber bouncy and slime oozy?  Put on your mad scien st hat and join us in making these three concoc ons.  A er we make them comes the fun part…  Playing with them!   

Geocaching High Desert Trackers Geocache (gee‐oh‐cash) comes from two words. The first is geo meaning “Earth” and the second cache which is a safe place for storing or hiding something. It is like a global game of hide‐n‐seek using GPS!  Join us for some treasure hun ng!! 

Geology Lee Bailey Join Mr. Bailey and learn fun facts and informa on about different types of rocks and minerals.  Learn what rocks and minerals are, what the difference is, examples of rocks and minerals, the difference between igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, Mohs scale of hardness and much more.

Horse Showmanship Jenelle Neumann In showmanship the handler's skills are being scru nized as well as the horse's appearance and training. Come learn from an experienced showman how to be successful in the showmanship arena. 

Ice Breaker Games (Limit 25) Youth Leadership Team An icebreaker is an ac vity, game, or event that is used to welcome and warm up the conversa on among groups of people who do not know each other well.  Join us for some playful games and ac vi es that will be fun and help you get to know others quickly. 

Ice Cream in a Bag (Limit 25) Youth Leadership Team Ice cream in a plas c bag is a delicious science experiment! Not only will we learn to make our own dessert, but we will also learn the principles of heat transference. The end result is ice cream in a plas c bag!
