NSS SPECIAL CAMP REPORT
The NSS Units 49 and 50, under the guidance of Dr. Christianna Singh, the Principal
and Secretary, Dr. Rachel Regi Daniel, the Vice Principal, Dr. K. Deivanai and Dr. J.
Nirmala Devi, Part – V Co-ordinators of Lady Doak College, Madurai, conducted One Day
NSS Camp at Mathur Village and Mathur Colony on 29.06.2017 to commemorate the Birth
Centenary Celebration of Former Chief Minister Dr. M.G. Ramachandran.
Hundred and four NSS volunteers attended the Camp and were accompanied by four
faculty members. The Camp was organised by Dr. T. Durga Devi and Dr. R. Solai Selvi, the
Programme Officers of NSS Units 49 and 50 respectively and were supported by Ms. T.
Muthulaksmi and Dr. A. Sankareswari, members of NSS Units 49 and 50 .
As it was a day camp, the volunteers were asked to assemble in the Golden Jubilee
Auditorium at 7.30 a.m. They were taken to the village through government bus. They
started their journey at 8.30 a.m. and reached the village at 9.00 a.m. As per the plan, the
NSS volunteers and the staff-in-charge landed in the premises of the Government High
School, Mathur Colony.
After that, NSS volunteers started to arrange the hall provided by the school to
conduct Medical Camp. Student volunteers began the programme with a word of prayer
followed by welcome address.
Medical Camp
NSS Unit – 49 and 50 of Lady Doak College in association with Devadoss Multi
Specialty Hospital, Madurai conducted Medical Camp for the village community. The
Medical Camp was scheduled between 10.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. A team of 20 members of
the hospital including one Physician, one Psychotherapist, one Gynecologist, one Orthopedist
and one Optometrist arrived at the school at 9.30 a.m.
Free physical examination along with free Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and free
medicine were provided by the hospital. 210 members were benefited by the Medical Camp.
Doctors advised the beneficiaries various medicine and consultation during the camp.

Awareness Rally
After the successful beginning of the Medical Camp, volunteers of Unit 49 took part
in a rally on “Rain Water Harvesting” at Mathur whereas Unit 50 took part at Mathur Colony.
Students raised slogans relating to rain water harvesting.

Swachh Bharat
To strengthen the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative, cleanliness drive was conducted for
creating awareness among the people of the village. The NSS volunteers actively
participated in the cleaning campaign. They cleaned the premises of the Government High
School, Mathur Colony, the Mosque, Mathur and the nearby areas.

Tree Plantation
In view to support the initiative of the Government as well as our College to green the
surrounding by growing plants, the NSS volunteers participated in the plantation drive.
A total of 125 saplings were planted at Mathur and Mathur Colony with the
enthusiastic support of the school students, village people and our NSS volunteers.

Special Tutoring to the School Students
As the adopted village for the NSS, the volunteers began their service to the students
of the Government High School, Mathur Colony. To receive the attention of the students,
they began their special tutoring with games. The training will be continued in the days to
come.
