GETTING TO KNOW YOU

by Doris Hoover

Nursing is not just an ART, it has a heART. Nursing is not for

everyone. It takes a very strong, intelligent, and compassionate

person to take on the ills of the world with passion and purpose.

Nurses are unique. Such is our person of the month. Patricia Ann

Nilsson is an extraordinary woman; born May 24, 1941, in Valley Stream, Long Island,

NY. Her father, William Schreiber, was a mechanic and her mother, Theresa, worked

for the NY Telephone Co. She has one sister and one brother. Pat attended the Val-

ley Stream Elementary and Jr. High School, graduating from Patehogue High School in

1959. She received her Registered Nursing degree from St. John’s Episcopal Hospital,

School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY in 1962 thus received a position with the Good Sa-

maritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY. Not only did she receive honors

upon graduation but met a charming gentlemen on a blind date the same year. They

were married two years later, June 13, 1964, in Patchogue, NY. From this delightful and

loving marriage of 50 years, they had one girl, Lisa and two sons, Kenneth and Paul and

four wonderful granddaughters. Pat’s husband, Carl Ivar Nilsson was a veteran of the

US Navy and worked for Pam Am World Airways for 32 years. He passed April 26,

2014.

Pat, with her love and enthusiasm for nursing and a caring heart for the elder citi-

zen, was employed with the Day Break Mature Adult Care Modern Maturity Center,

Dover, DE retiring after eleven and half years. She is an active member of the Refor-

mation Lutheran Church, Milford devoting many hours to the Women’s League con-

structing the year’s programs and contributing to the knitting projects. She also holds

the office of Secretary to AARP, local chapter; and member to MSC and FSC. She says

she sincerely enjoys FSC for the friendliness and good food.

Favorites of our Lady of the Month are the color green, comfort foods, HGTV and

TLC. Big World, Small People and the Duggars Family are preferred TV shows. The

most enjoyable trip was to Hawaii. The most enjoyable trip in Delaware is to Long-

wood Gardens during the Christmas holiday. Southern Grill is a favorite restaurant to

enjoy a delicious dinner with friends, attending The Second Street Players Theater, Mil-

ford, and quiet time reading mystery books.

Words of Wisdom: “Smile and have a kind word for people.”

Please welcome this fascinating charming lady, Patricia Ann Nilsson with your friendly

smile. It is contagious.

Veterans Day is an official United States public holi-

day, observed annually on November 11, that honors

military veterans; that is, persons who served in the

United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other

holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance

Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the

anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities

of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the

11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The

United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed

Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May;

Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial

Day honors those who died while in military service.[1] It is also not to be

confused with Armed Forces Day, a minor U.S. remembrance that also occurs in

May, which specifically honors those currently serving in the U.S. military.

Come join us for lunch on Friday November 10th as we honor all

veterans that have serve this great Nation. Veterans eat for FREE!
