facts Diagram any important
associations to allow for flow
of thought

MUSIC MNEMONICS
How many of you can recall a random advertising jingle or quickly memorize the lyrics to a song?
You can make a song or jingle using any type of music you choose for any list of items.
Work best with long lists. For example, some children learn the ABC's by singing the "ABC" song. Other children learn all the states in alphabetical order using the "50 Nifty United States" song.
Note Organization Mnemonics
The organization of notes can promote memory recall Notecards – an easy way to organize main ideas and
relevant details to be recalled Outlines – clearly separate main ideas from details;
helps to organize information in the mind making it easier to remember
Cornell Notes – promote recall by the separation of main ideas from supporting details
Reading Strategies for Math
Read, review, and practice math concepts Read over your math chapters before class Focus on understanding the math problems and concepts rather
than on memorizing problems Do not get behind in math…you need to understand the first
step before you can go on to the next
Reading Strategies for Science
Highlight or mark theories, names of scientists, definitions, concepts, and procedures
Understand the scientific principles and use flash cards (note organization mnemonics) to remember details and formulas
Study charts, diagrams, tables, and graphs. Draw your own pictures and graphs to get a visual picture of the material
Use lab time as an opportunity to practice the theories and principles that you have learned
Reading Strategies for Literature Classes
Underline the names of characters and write plot summaries Write notes about your evaluation of literary works Make flash cards (note organization mnemonics) to remember
literary terms Write down important quotes or note page numbers on a separate
piece of paper so that you don’t have to go back to find them later
Reading Strategies for Foreign Language Classes
Practice a small amount daily Complete the exercises as a way to practice and remember Study out loud Practice speaking with others Use flash cards (note organization mnemonics) to remember
vocabulary Make charts to practice verb conjugations Learn to think in the language
REMEMBER
Time management, note-taking skills, and study skills are all related and can impact your success as a
student.
REMEMBER to make it a great day!
