Critics Circle Award for Best Play of the Year. Lindsay-Abaire’s previous play, “Rabbit Hole,” received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was made into a successful film starring Nicole Kidman.

The play centers on Margie, a hard-luck single mom from Boston’s Southie who can’t catch a break. Laid off from her job at the Dollar Store, she tries to get in touch with her old flame who escaped the neigh-borhood and became a doctor. “Good People” takes a fascinat-ing look at the divide between working-class people and those who manage to move up to a more financially secure life.

“I can’t think of a more time-ly play in that it looks at the have and have nots,” said Janis. “It’s who these folks really are, not just the sound bites.”

The play’s cast includes two original members of the

Broadway cast. Tasha Lawrence will play the lead role of Margie (for which Fran McDormand won the Tony Award) and Garrett Neergard appear. Also appearing are Brian Dykstra, recently seen in New York and the Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca in the break-out hit “Call me Waldo,” and local favorite Janis Young, who portrayed Lady Boyle in DTF’s popular produc-tion of “Superior Donuts.”

DTF’s resident director Giovanna Sardelli will direct. The design team will feature DTF’s producing director Michael Gianitti (lights), Kevin Judge (set), Emily Pepper (cos-tumes) and Ryan Rumery (sound).

“Good People” is DTF’s fea-tured presentation as part of the Hills Alive! Festival Week. Tickets can be purchased online at www.dorsettheatrefestival.rog or by calling the box office Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at 802-867-2223.

DorsetContinued from front page An opening reception for a

new exhibit “Artists for the New Century” will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the Bennington Center for the Arts.

Works in the exhibit were selected by three of the coun-try’s finest art magazines, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Southwest Art. The show was first held in 2002 and is repeated every five years.

“This is such a wonderful show to exhibit, and it is great fun organizing it,” said Gallery Director Shirley Hutchins. “It is a great opportunity for those interested in contemporary

American art to be able to come to the Center to see this exciting new work or even purchase it.”

The focus of the show is on those who have proven them-selves to be excellent artists but have not yet received the recog-nition they deserved. Some of the artists in past shows are now among the country’s most recognized representational artists, said Hutchins.

Almost 100 pieces are dis-played and depict wildlife and domestic animals from all parts of the globe. This year’s show was juried by Greg Beecham of Wyoming.

Events on June 16 begin at 1

p.m. with lectures and presen-tations, including a Raptor Encounter by VINS. Greg Beecham will give an art cri-tique at 3:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, and all events are open to the public.

Three other shows opening this week include The Small Works Show, American Artists Abroad and Art of the Animal Kingdom. All work is for sale.

For more information, got to www.TheBennington.org or call 802-442-7158. The Center is located on Vermont Route 9 just west of downtown Bennington.
