NIJHUIS INNOVATIONS IN 2016Innovations in (waste) water technology are vital in finding solutions to the challenges we face today. Challenges like climate change, ageing infrastructure, urbanization, resource shortages, the economic crisis and new emerging substances need sustainable development and demographic changes.

During this year’s IFAT, we are showcasing a record number of 14 innovations to the (waste) water technology market which are vital to the challenges the world is facing today. Solutions for sustainable water use, resource recovery and intelligent services are completing the range of our showcased innovations during the IFAT.

Intelligent and smart solutionsNijhuis will proudly present the intelligent range like the i-DAF, High Rate i-DAF, i-DOSE, i-CONTROL, i-MONITORING as well as their OZONE Technology, biological solutions BIOCTOR and the next generation of

fine bubble aeration solutions FLEX-AERATION. To maximize flexibility of customers, the Nijhuis MODULAR SOLUTIONS are a game-changing new modular set-up for WWTP’s.

Implementing waste to value strategies to recover resources To implement industrial and municipal waste to value strategies and turn (waste) water into profit, innovative technologies such as ammonia recovery (NAR) and fat recovery (i-FAT) are needed to recover resources and fulfill the ever-demanding sustainable requirements.

The award-winning AECOMIXTM biogas solutions are turning waste and wastewater into a true powerplant, as the GENIAAL is turning manure into fertilizer and clean water. Another sustainable innovation which is following the waste to value strategy is the i-WONDER, to boost the biogas production and improve the dewaterability of sludge.

The world’s largest pre-fabricated flotation unit will be delivered to an oil refinery in Kazakhstan.

Nijhuis Industries has been awarded the contract for the delivery, installation and commissioning of the largest ever built High Rate flocculation-flotation system, treating wastewater from an oil refinery complex in Kazakhstan.

The flotation unit, NPF 1200 HX series, is the world record holder for treating the highest flow in a single prefabricated stainless steel flotation unit, still transportable by road truck. The flotation unit has a length of 16 meters and a treatment capacity of 1600 m3/hr. The system will be explosion proof and will work as a pre-treatment for a biological wastewater treatment system. The flocculation-flotation system will remove emulsified and dispersed oil along with suspended solids until the lowest possible suspended solids concentration is achieved.

State-of-the-art biogas plant in Central Europe

The Rzeczyca biogas plant is one of the biggest and newest biogas plant executed by Nijhuis in the area of Central Europe based on agricultural substrates, like grass, vegetable waste or distillery vinasse. Solid substrates are fed into the AECOMIXTM-TAURUS digester by a modular solid feeder with a walking floor system. The liquid substrates are received into 2 tanks and then pumped into the system. The anaerobic digestion takes place in 2 digesters. The electrical power is 1MW, and is based on two 0,5 MW CHP units.

The digestate after the process is separated by a screw press unit. Liquid fraction will be stored in lagoon and then spread on fields. The solid fraction will be dried in an innovative drier, the heat will be delivered by the exhaust gasses from the CHP units.

The construction works are finished, the plant is currently in a start-up phase and producing biogas.

As a full turn-key supplier and waste to value solution provider, Nijhuis succesfully delivered the technology, civil and electrical works and the delivery of the CHP and connection to the energy grid.

The strict policy of raw material purchase allowed “As do Mar” to be the most sustainable tuna brand in Italy according to the special ranking released by Greenpeace in 2015 to be “Friend of the Sea” certified. A highly automated production plant in combination with a long tradition in tuna cleaning are the key factors supporting “As do Mar” premium products in the strong market competitiveness of recent years.

After a jar test, Nijhuis advised to build a flocculator, type PFR 100 combined with the IPF 135E flotation unit with a capacity of 110 m3/hr to discharge the water to the sewage system. The sludge is treated with the NSP, a Nijhuis screw press.

The complete system will be connected with the NI-CONNECT, an in-house VPN router developed by Nijhuis. The 24/7 i-MONITORING is facilitated from the Nijhuis monitoring center in Doetinchem, the Netherlands to support the operator of the plant to continuously improve the realiability of the installation and keeping the life-cycle cost to a minimum.

Nijhuis Italy started in August 2015 her activities with a local based Sales & Service Centre, in her new office near Verona. In December 2015, Generale Conserve SPA awarded Nijhuis the order to deliver a secondary treatment for the tuna production lines. Generale Conserve is recognized as a model of reference in the tuna market. The brand “As do Mar” has a leading premium segment in the Italian market.

Nijhuis awarded ‘most innovative company’ in the Achterhoek, the Netherlands

Nijhuis has been awarded “most innovative company in the Achterhoek”. The Achterhoek is the region surrounding Doetinchem and known in the Netherlands for its Smart Industry.

Out of 20 selected companies in the region, 3 were nominated for the annual Innovative Entrepreneurship Award. During the event the nominated companies got the opportunity to present themselves. Besides an interview with Wilbert Menkveld, our Manager R&D, footage was shown from Nijhuis Headquarters and the mobile NAR treatment plant.

This plant is currently in operation at “Groot Zevert”, one of our most important launching-customers and development partners in the region. With over 64% of all the votes Nijhuis Water Technology was awarded the 2016 winner.
