Broad ExperienceThe waste water from a chemical plant
has, for example, a different composition
to that of a dairy plant. Its treatment
also requires a different approach.
We have a wealth of experience in all

Technological skillsPurifying waste water demands high
technological skills and involves a number
of phases and processes as listed below:
A physical - chemical process. Coarse
parts are removed, for example, sand, oil
and textile fibres.
A biological process. Micro-organisms
purify the water. They remove organic
compounds.
The water is further purified by, for
instance, fine filtration, absorption,
membranes, UV treatment or by adding
substances which kill bacteria and viruses.
When treating water, sludge is produced.
The aim is to remove valuable material
so that the disposal costs are minimal to
zero.

RecyclingWe are a company which does much
more than only supplying knowledge and
installations for waste water treatment.
We can also supply innovative sustainable
solutions in the field of recycling.
Water ReuseRecycling technologies can be used for
post-treatment of water. By doing this
you can reuse the water in the production
process, for irrigation or as drinking water.
Therefore, you do not need to discharge
waste water which is good for the
environment and also saves money.

Material RecoveryRecycling technologies can also be used
on materials which are removed from
the water with our systems. Which? This
will depend on your sector. For example,
in the potato processing industry, it
could be starch; in the pulp & paper
industry, it could be paper fibres; in the
petrochemical industry, it could be mineral
oils; and, in the dairy industry, it could be
vegetable oils. Other processes produce
phosphorus which can be used as an
agricultural fertilizer. Of course, there are
many more examples.
Waste to EnergyWe supply not only systems which can
take waste from water, but we also
deliver systems which can convert these
wastes into energy. Our in-house Research
& Development department has the
knowledge and experience to design these.
Biofuels
We are capable of generating bio-based
fuels from waste and waste water, such
as, hydrogen, pyrolysis oil and dried,
pelletized organic compounds. We also
design and deliver biogas plants which
produce energy from manure and other
substrates. There are currently more
processes in development.
One-stop-shopIn the future we will also continue with
our research and innovation. We control
all aspects in the treatment of water,
waste water and waste streams to produce
the required end products, such as clean
water, process water, fuels, energy and
other valuable materials.

Treatability studies. Our team of specialists can perform treatability studies
by using our long-term experience in this field.
Lab testing and pilot testing on site. We have the capabilities to do tests in our

on the innovation of existing technologies and the development of new
technologies to provide our customers with up-to-date solutions.

by dissolved air or gas.

NWR - Tertiary treatment & Recycling systemsNijhuis Water Technology offers a range of
NWR technologies to polish your industrial
waste water to very tight discharge
consents or even to a quality which can be
reused in your production process.
The following systems are available:
• Sand filters
• Media filters
• Activated carbon filters
• Aerated activated carbon filters
• Disinfection
• Membrane systems, types MF, UF
and RO
Depending on where and how the waste
water will be reused, a selection will be
made from these technologies to ensure
the optimum polishing configuration with
the lowest running costs and a minimum
of waste for disposal.
NMR - Valuable products recovery systems To create value out of products in your waste
water, Nijhuis Water Technology designs
systems to recover these and create value
out of it. For example, the following materials
can be recovered from waste water:
• Nitrogen and Phosphorus can react into
Struvite, a valuable fertilizer
• Proteins can be recovered from an algae
treatment system and reused in food
or as fuel
• Starches can be recovered from waste
water from a potato processing plant
and reused as animal feed
• Oils can be separated and reused as
animal feed, fuel etc.

Aecomix - Sludge Digestion and Waste Digestion systemsNijhuis Water Technology supplies sludge
& waste digesters, where under anaerobic
circumstances, your organic waste material
is transferred into biogas, heat, energy
and fertilizer. The feed into the process
could consist of:
• High load organic liquid wastes
• Factory organic solid wastes
• Sludge from your waste water treatment
plant
Depending on the raw materials, Nijhuis
Water Technology will select the optimal
system. This system can include the
following steps: raw material preparation,
balancing, mixing, digestion, biogas
conditioning, biogas usage, digested
solids processing and digestate treatment.
Taurus Reactor - Anaerobic Digestion systems for Manure and Co-productsNijhuis Water Technology supplies manure
& co-digestion systems, where under
anaerobic circumstances, agricultural
wastes are transferred into biogas, heat,
energy and fertilizer. The feed into the
process could consist of:
• Manure of animals
• Agricultural & Food factory wastes
• Co-substrates, like maize, corn, grass
and sugar beets

system. This system can include the
following steps: raw material preparation,
balancing, mixing, digestion, biogas

NST - Sludge and Gas handling and treatmentDuring treatment of waste water and
wastes, sludge is produced which needs
to be disposed of in order to diminish the
disposal costs. Nijhuis Water Technology

sludge thickening systems:
