• King Charles II gave this proprietary colony to his brother, the Duke of York, who renamed it New York.

• The English captured New Netherland in 1664.

What is the difference between a commercial and subsistence economy?

Commercial economy- economies where people have surplus product beyond what they need for their own survival, which they take to a market to trade or sell.

Subsistence economy- economies (such as subsistence farming) where families use all they raise for their own needs.
