NAIDOC Week Celebrations
NAIDOC Week is generally held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the
contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society.
We are pleased to be holding a special Assembly on Thursday 24 July at 9.00 am to
celebrate NAIDOC. Further information will be in next weeks newsletter.
Newsletter by Email
As of this week, we will be gradually introducing the emailing of the weekly
newsletter. We are still in the process of entering email addresses into our system,
but hope to have this completed by next week. If in a few weeks you are still not
receiving the newsletter via email, please contact the office. Thank you to the Parent
Reps for assisting Elena in collecting email addresses.
Senior Shirts
The Year 6 and 7 students now have their senior shirts, which
look fabulous. Many thanks to David Eeles for sourcing these
through his wholesale contacts.
David's help meant that we could produce the shirts for $21
each instead of the $45 other schools have paid for the same
shirts. Thank you also to Desiré Gralton, Kris Webb, Tracy
Musgrave-Sturm and Julie-Ann Alcorn for all their wonderful
work and support. Congratulations to Elisa (artwork for Year 7)
and Tahlia (artwork for Year 6) for having their artwork chosen
to appear on the shirts. Great job!
Now Taking Prep Enrolments for 2015

processing of enrolling their children for 2015. Information about interview dates and
the Open Day date and time will be published in the newsletter in the coming weeks.

Rise of the Eco Warriors Towards the end of last term we held a screening of the Rise of the Eco Warriors. It was a great night with about 100 people getting warm and cosy in the school hall to follow the journey of a group of young eco warriors travelling to Borneo to save the rainforests and give hope to endangered orangutans. After paying the screening costs – which helps to pay all the people who made the film – we raised a further $170 which we have donated to RainforestConnections.org to help pay for a new electric fence enclosure to protect the orangutans at the Sintang Orangutan Centre in Borneo. Thanks to the parents who helped to make popcorn, delicious pumpkin soup and bread to sell at the event. We asked everyone to bring their own mugs for the soup which means we generated hardly any waste! We left taking one small bag of rubbish at the end of the night – what a great outcome and a good learning curve for future events. We hope to do another movie screening this term, so watch this space!

BOOK WEEK AUGUST -
DRESS UP DAY
Tuesday 19 August
It's time to start thinking about a costume. Book Week starts Monday 18 August and as part of the celebrations, we are asking children to come dressed up as their favourite book character. You might like to start giving this some thought. A hat or accessories maybe a simple solution. Please no swords, guns or plastic knives as accessories for costumes.
READ-A-THON
We are also having a Read-a-thon as part of Book Week. In-formation sheets will be sent home with students soon.
