    PROJ ECT DELIVERY MOD EL

    Case Study 1

The Millennium DomeThe UK Government White Elephant

    Constructed to celebrate the Millennium

    Completed on schedule for opening

    ceremony 31st

    December 1999 Initial estimate 250m

Final cost 750m and 2 Governmentminister resignations

Visitor numbers only 50% of forecast

Closed after 1 year and redundant until

    reopened as O2 Arena

Meeting fixed schedules can cost a lot of money

Scope Management and definition of the scope and WBS has to be undertaken asearly as possible

    Massive failure of stakeholder management

    27th March 2008 - Chaos

Avoid Big Bang launches if at all possible; trial days had 2,000; opening day 40,000 passengers

If it can go wrong, it will who was managing the risk log? Were staff, baggage handling, security& car parks on it?
