Sample User Journey

Roles + Workflows = User ExperiencesAssessment Construction

– A teacher logs in to construct a paper based assessment to use with a class. She uses an algorithm to generate an assessment from the topic and level with three groups of questions of differing difficulties.

User logs into the NAR through their GLOW account

User reaches their NAR portal homepage

User clicks to create a new assessment

Compendle launches and the user chooses how to create their assessment

A blank assessment is created in Compendle

The user then clicks the “auto-construct” button for the course

The user chooses to re-use an existing assessment template rather than specify their own rules

An assessment is automatically constructed based on the chosen template

The publish wizard guides the user through selecting a delivery method

The user chooses document and PDF and chooses to publish a marking scheme as a secure PDF

The assessment is automatically built and supplied ready for the user to download

Security – track record

• Working with nuclear industry– Penetration testing

• Working with NHS– Complex integration

– Single sign-on

– Users from multiply authenticated sources

Security

During access to the service User authentication - all pages and web services require user to be

logged in. Every request to server authenticated. Session timeout - users automatically logged out Option of restricting access to allowed IP addresses Extra security around releasing assessments/marking schemes

For the storage and transmission of data Encrypting/hashing data in database. E.g. Passwords, Assessments,

marking schemes PDFs – use PDF authentication for documents (Adobe Lifecycle ES) HTTPS – secure data transactions

More security

Via any roles based permission service Access to assessments and marking schemes based on role,

workflow and individual permissions

System functionality restricted by role at procedural level

Admin tasks restricted to organisation group

Against malicious attacks Defensive coding against cross-site scripting, SQL injection, etc.

All user inputs validated throughout systems

Testing - user data input, user access and penetration testing

Server security - physical server security, network security

What we will deliver

• Easy of use – designed for the user experience, powerful search and discovery

• Power and flexibility – tried and tested, international standards, already used in national services
