The most impressive part of the visit from the childrens point of view was the indigenous garden and associated acvies that were on offer. The children were able to taste testsome nave plants that are used for tradional cooking and learn about others used for tradional medicines. They were also able to create some art with hand prints and natural paint derived from plants grown in the indigenous garden. Our school joined with Longwarry, Garfield, Bunyip and St James Primary Schools where the day consisted of a variety of fun acvies including Yoga and Zumba. The consistent theme throughout the day was the importance of a no tolerance approach to unacceptable bullying behaviours and how to deal with such behaviours. The children were involved in problem solving discussions, role plays and presentaons and of course, the sausage sizzle lunch was a highlight! Let’s examine the virtues required for empathy further:

Empathy = Good Manners + Friendliness + Courage +

Persistence/Resilience + Tolerance/Acceptance +

Compassion

Good manners is the habit of speaking and acting in a way

which gives people a feeling of being appreciated, valued and

respected. It is the habit of using the words and actions of

good manners with sincerity.

Friendliness is the habit of being interested in others, as well

as sharing your time, ideas, feelings, belongings and yourself

with others. It is the habit of saying and doing things to les-

son the labour and effort of others (helpfulness).

Courage is the habit of accepting your fear and nevertheless

making yourself say or do the things you know are right and

more important than your fear. It is that habit of sticking to

your values and resisting the tempta-

tion to abandon them.

Treat others as you would like them to treat you

SICK CHILDREN

There are many ‘bugs’ and illnesses around the school at any given time.

If your child is unwell (or if you are in doubt), please don’t send them to school, home is really a

much better place for them to be.

Please note there are many coughs, colds and tummy bugs currently in the school

HEAD LICE

There have been a number of cases of head lice reported in the school.

It is important to combat this problem.

The only way to do this is if everyone checks their children’s hair

regularly and treat it appropriately. If everyone does this we stand a better chance of eradicating the

problem.

Treatment usually needs to be applied at least twice for it to be effective. Bedding, soft toys,

teddies etc also need to be treated.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

WORKING WITH CHILDREN’S CHECKS—A GOVERNMENT REGULATION

A reminder that EVERY HELPER in our school must wear their Working With Children Card on one of our visitor

lanyards, or a visitors badge when helping in our school. This could be for reading helpers, sport helpers, classroom

helpers, PAFA friends etc.

This is policy in our school and we will be monitoring this diligently.

STUDENT SUPERVISION

Please be aware that staff are on yard duty in the playground from 8:45 am before school and until 3:45 pm after

school. Students travelling on late buses are supervised in the Multi Purpose Room after school until the final bus leaves.

For your own child’s safety it is recommended that children do not arrive at school before 8:45 am.

FEEDBACK

Your feedback is important to us. If you have a concern or would like to raise a complaint as a parent, please speak to the

classroom teacher in the first instance, Team leader in the second instance (ie: Foundation: Jodie Watt, Years 1-2:

Kimberly Feher, Years 3-4 Ryan Marsland, Years 5/6: Jackie Hope).

Otherwise, please contact the Principal Mrs Fran Van Lambaart or Assistant Principal Jacqui Cutler, by calling the office to

arrange an appointment.

VISITING THE SCHOOL

We would respectfully ask that every person who comes onto the school grounds between the hours of 9:15am and

3:15pm does so through the main office to ensure that we know who is on the school grounds at all times. We would ask

for your cooperation as parents to ensure that if you have a message for your child or an item that needs to be delivered

to the classroom that you ask the office staff to pass it on rather than interrupt the class and/or the teacher during

instruction time. Anyone without a WWCC lanyard or Visitors badge will be redirected to the front office.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS

Nar Nar Goon Primary School is committed to child safety. We want children to be safe, happy and empowered. We support

and respect all children, as well as our staff and volunteers. We are committed to the safety, participation and

empowerment of all children. We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated

very seriously and consistently with our robust policies and procedures. If you would like more information please go to the

‘Wellbeing’ or ‘Policies’ tab on our website where you will find our Child Safe Policy and/or further information and

resources go to: www.education.vic.gov.au/protect

STUDENT INSURANCE

Please be aware that the Education Department does not cover students for accidents in the school grounds, nor does it

cover for Ambulance costs should the need to call an ambulance be necessary. I would therefore encourage all families, to

please consider making personal insurance and ambulance cover arrangements for all their children.
