    Fingerprint Authentication and TPM

    What is Fingerprint Authentication?

    Your computer may be equipped with a fingerprint sensor to provide you with additional convenience. Asmall horizontal bar located between the left and right touch-pad buttons is the sensor of the fingerprintreader and will be referred to as the fingerprint sensor hereinafter.See the online Specifications to see whether your model is equipped with the fingerprint sensor.

    Once you have registered your fingerprint(s), the fingerprint authentication functionality offers:

    What is Trusted Platform Module (TPM)?

    Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is embedded in selected models and provides your computer with basicsecurity functions.In combination with the TPM, you can encrypt and decrypt your data to strengthen computer securityagainst inappropriate access. TPMs are defined by Trusted Computing Group (TCG) and also calledsecurity chips.See the online Specifications to find whether the TPM is available on your model.

    Using Fingerprint Authentication with the TPM?

    With the TPM data encryption feature, using fingerprint authentication can strengthen computer security.For instructions on how to use the TPM, see Using Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

    To use fingerprint authentication with the TPM, your computer needs to be equipped with both afingerprint sensor and the TPM. See the online Specifications to find whether your model is equipped withthem.For detailed information on using fingerprint authentication with the TPM, click Start, All Programs,Protector Suite QL, and Help to read the help file.

    File Safe feature toencrypt/decrypt data

    With the File Safe feature, you can encrypt files and folder to create anencrypted archive. To decrypt or access such encrypted archives, you can usethe fingerprint authentication or enter the password you specified forencryption.

    application access

    Once you have assigned an application to your finger, you can then swipe thefinger across the fingerprint sensor to launch the assigned application.
