MS Exchange Server Database

When you install Microsoft Exchange Server on your system. It automatically creates a directory in C drive following the path

“C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\”

E00.log e00.chk E00tmp.log E00res00001.jrs E00res00002.jrs

These files are connected to each other and create a group named as Storage Group.

EDB FileAs discussed, it is the primary repository of Exchange Server. It stores all mailbox data, thus naming it as mailbox database.edb. It contains entire mailbox items such as emails, contacts, calendars, drafts, journals, notes and attachments. Thus, entire communication in any organization with Exchange server goes through EDB file.

Exchange Server Corruption

All the important information of Exchange Server is stored in EDB file, so any damage to EDB file can lead Exchange server corruption. Corruption in EDB file can be categorized as mentioned below:

Logical Corruption

Database error such as missing log files, header corruption, etc.

Physical Corruption

Hard disk failure, power failure, storage failure

Solution- Manual Method

There are two free inbuilt utility named as Eseutil and Isinteg to repair and recover EDB file manually.

Executing Eseutil.exe- Click on Start and go to Run Write “cmd” and click “Ok” Jump to C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin Type Eseutil.exe in command line

After recovery process is completed by Eseutil, now run Isinteg.exe to get insure of data integrity.
