MOONLIGHT DRAUGHTING was founded in Arkansas in 2003 by Jasen Langley.  While working in firms, he would hear employers mention that they would find people “moonlighting” in their off hours to add on to their financial income.  Jasen decided to give it a try for himself.  While working for firms he would offer assistance on the side to individuals needing help as a side business.  After moving to Iowa to marry his bride, he dropped the side business and worked for a surveyor, an engineer, and finally for a local architect.

Moonlight Draughting’s approach to drafting and design allows the work to respond to advancing knowledge and technology applications in driving the studio forward as a thriving business.  

In August of 2013, he turned in his resignation with the firm and de-cided to return to his Moonlight Draughting as a full time business. Since the beginning of Moonlight Draughting, Jasen has believed in process over style and has taken architectural directions from a desire to deliver interesting and highly crafted pieces of work with intellectual rigor, creativity, experimentation, innovation, continual dialogue, having an understanding of technologies and change.  From drafting tables to CAD, directly to BIM, Jasen enjoys the activity of construction and the art of building a very direct relationship with his clients.

Jasen Langley is the founder and sole-proprietor of Moonlight Draughting.  His passion for architecture stems from his love for art that began at a young age.  He enjoys taking an idea and turning it in to a masterpiece.  Jasen has worked in the architec-tural field for over 16 years.  He has completed an Architectural Associates degree and is working his way toward obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Iowa State University.  While working his way through school, Jasen has worked for both engineers and architects and has vastly broad-ened his knowledge in both areas.  In August of 2013, he de-cided it was time to take a leap of faith and venture out on his own to run Moonlight Draughting as a full time business.

Jasen is committed to the design process of mak-ing drawings and illustrations have the detailed im-aging that the final product will reflect. DESIGN

Jasen Langley enjoys creating an idea and moving forward with it to create a design that is both visually appealing and practical.  He has created designs for competitions for original design as well as for rendering capabilities. 

The Beach Box was created based on an idea that a playhouse could be built to last a lifetime.  Not only to be built and abandoned after the child has grown, but to be utilized by all ages.  It was an idea created for a playhouse design competition in which the top designs would be built and auctioned off for charities.  The only instructions the competi-tors were given were the maximum square footage and had to use a specific brand of exterior finishing.  The sky was the limit after that. 

While attending DMACC, Jasen was required to learn a new software - SketchUP.  While learning the software, he created a design concept for a custom house.  This is the same concept he used when coming up with the design for the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.  He took the design to the commercial level and changed materials to give it a slightly altered look to create the museum design.  This design concept was the first of many that Jasen hopes to create.

I was able to create a unique video for the presentation of the new John Wayne museum that was used to show a group of attendees at a fundraiser the complete outside design of what the new museum would look like when completed.

Jasen also came up with the idea to design a unique cover for the movie case and included a rendering of the front of the museum for extra visual aids for the presentation.

While Jasen was working for a local architect, they received the bid for designing the new John Wayne Birthplace Museum.  The architect in charge was trying to come up with something unique and Jasen sug-gested doing this and that and came up with the design shown.  The architect loved the design Jasen had created and with a few minor tweaks it was approved and is now being built.  This is a dream come true for Jasen as he is now seeing his first original design taking shape.  He is proud of his design and would love the opportunity to tell you more about the process he used to reach the final product.
