FROM THE POTENTATE’S DESK
As summer wanes, and the month of September comes to an end, a new season of Autumn colors and cooler days and nights is expected.
The month of September began with MASA in Virginia Beach. Those in attendance were well fed by “Packie” and a good time was had by all in the hospitality room, and many local establishments. Thanks to Noble Bruce Whitaker, whose status as a wounded combat veteran, was instrumental in purchasing at an adult beverage center. Noble Jay Cochrane put forth an excellent performance in the parade, and was awarded a trophy for his effort. Ali Ghan Director’s Staff also took home a 1st place trophy. The business meeting was well-attended by Ali Ghan Divan, and those in attendance at MASA all made it home without any major issues!
The Birthday Dinner/Temple Meeting was held on September 16, and attendance was great. Noble Phil Handley did an impersonation of a tumbler, and glad to state “he is doing well”. During the Temple meeting some of the new resolutions passed at Imperial Session were read to Nobles. Western Maryland Music Festival was once again profitable. Good job John Dawson and crew. Ali Ghan Golf Tourna-ment had 72 golfers and a record number of hole sponsors. Once again, Ladies Night has been canceled due to lack of participation.
October events include the Pigeon Forge trip, Ali Ghan Gun Bash on Oct. 21, the Paint and Create Party on Oct. 22, Dinner Theater on Oct. 26, as well as Autumn Glory Parade on Oct. 14, and Mummers Parade on Oct. 28. The South Cumberland Parade is the last week in October.
If anyone would like to know the origin of the insights to life on page 8 of the Red Fez, please ask.
The November 17 Birthday Dinner/Temple Meeting will be free for those having birthdays in October, November, and December. All vet-erans in attendance with some military ID will also have a free meal, and a small token of appreciation from your temple.
The Black Camel has visited Ali Ghan twice to date in September. John Pattison and Jack Haines are now using their working tools in the presence of the Supreme Architect of the Universe. Jack served as Transportation Director at Ali Ghan Shrine for several years.
Yours in faith,
E. William DuVall II

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and
self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior
motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful
friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy
overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will be never enough.
Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was
never between you and them anyway.
Given to all Shriners who attended the President’s Banquet-MASA 2017

RE TEMPLE NO. 118 DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE
Re Temple No. 118 Daughters of the Nile held their September stated
session where the Temple’s new Supreme Appointees Tamra Powell and
Rebecca Beachy were honored. Queen Latricia Ryan gave a report on
the 101st annual Supreme Session held in Niagara Falls, New York. It
was announced that another Cozy sheet order is being put together by
Cherie Robison (301-723-0821 or [email protected]) and pecan
orders are due October 19th to Past Queen Christina Tippen at 301-722-
5231 or chrissy [email protected].
A new membership incentive program was “launched” at the session.
Members keep track of Temple activities, etc. they attend on a “RIP”
card. The points on the card are used to build up to opportunities to win
a $50 gift certificate to the restaurant of your choice. One gift card
drawing will be held at the December stated session and another at the
March stated session. Members may get their “RIP” card from Past
Queen April Skidmore.
The Temple also voted to begin the “Note in a Tote” project where
anyone may write a note to a Shrine patient for the donation of a dollar.
The note will be placed in the pocket of the Temple’s welcome totes. The
funds raised will be used to purchase a wooden rocker and/or kitchen set
that the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital has on their requested item list.
Members were reminded that the fall newsletter deadline is October
15th, the next stated session will be on Thursday, October 19th with
Founder’s Day being observed, pecan orders are due and items for older
children for the welcome totes. The Supreme Queen’s official visit will
be held on Friday, October 20th with a Banquet at 5:00 pm and a cere-
monial for members only at 7:00 pm. Banquet reservations are due to
Past Queen Marilyn Adam (301-722-2492) by October 15th along with
your entrée choice of Delmonico Steak or Chicken Chesapeake.

group of (88) of hungry customers before we ran out. The fellowship was
GREAT! And ou8r ladies desserts were better than ever! Our dinners
are: October 23rd—November 27th. Starting 5pm till 7 pm or till we run
out!
This year John Haus will be serving as chairman in charge of annual
STEAK feed for members and wives only! Feed will be held on Septem-
ber 17th starting at 5 pm. MEMBERS and WIVES come and enjoy!!!!!!

Well, Rallroad Unit members are winding down the summer activities with our last train run and only two more spaghetti din-ners. The year sure is going fast. At our September Unit meeting we had a nice hamburger hot dog covered dish dinner and then took in two mew members in Mr. Cole Livingston and Mr. Derrick Rhodes and we hope to see a lot of them at our upcoming meet-ings and events. We were fortunate to have Past Potentate Wayne Couter and his lady, Barb, and also charter member, Char-lie Hardy and his lady, Bunny. Our secretary, Brad Butler, had a little car trouble and could not make the meeting so Tom Valentine filled in for Brad, so thanks Tom, for your help.
We are in the process of collecting the ads for our calendars and hope to get them to the printer shortly. We received a waiver for the kitchen upgrades from the insurance company, but still have to install fire extinguisher. Several parades are coming up including Autumn Glory in Oakland, the South Cumberland Pa-rade, and the parade in Kingwood for the Buckwheat Festival. Our annual Christmas party will be on the first Saturday of December and a letter will be sent out to all members along with the annual dues notice. Lucky Wayne Couter won the 50-50 drawing.
We hope Nobles Tom Sharpless and Truman Householder are recuperating.
Thanks again,
Wayne D. Robertson Sr.
