It’s so ex- citing to know that fall be- gins this month! I am ready for cooler weather and all that comes with it. I’m par- ticularly looking forward to everything pumpkin, hot apple cider, a warm fire on a cool night and maybe a few s’mores and toasted marshmallows. September also brings the kickoff of football season, which seems to be something most all of us enjoy! There are also a few notable holidays to keep in the forefront of our minds during the month of September. This year, Labor Day falls on September 6th! Labor Day dates back to 1887 and commemo- rates the American labor movement as well as hon- ors the workers nationwide who contribute to the development and prosperity of our country! Septem- ber 11th marks the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 at- tacks on the Twin Towers. Do you remember where you were on that day in 2001? This date now signifies a day of special remembrance for all those we lost and those who were affected. It is also a day to send special thanks to our first responders who selflessly endured the chaos to serve and protect our country. National Centenarian’s Day is September 22nd! This is a nationally recognized holiday that takes place every September 22nd to honor and celebrate loved ones who are 100 years of age or older. We have so much to learn from the greatest generation, and it’s extra special to have a day that recognizes centenar- ians in our Legacy family! I pray that amongst the holidays and excitement of sports, we can enjoy what this next season brings, and I can’t wait to join in it with you all. My hope is that we all stay happy and healthy. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called accord- ing to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Jessica Peters Executive Director Executive Director Jessica Peters Business Office Manager Tiffany Johnson-Hulme Life Enrichment Coordinator Brittany Grays-Thomas Food Services Director Augusto Vega Maintenance Director David Martinez Marketing Director Jerome Leake Memory Care Coordinator Freda Arthur Regional Director of Operations Ashley Young-Roesler Resident Services Director Mary Awansi

Message From Your Executive Director: September 2021

Hello to our residents, fam-ilies, and friends! It’s so ex-citing to know that fall be-gins this month! I am ready for cooler weather and all that comes with it. I’m par-ticularly looking forward to everything pumpkin, hot apple cider, a warm fire on a cool night and maybe a few

s’mores and toasted marshmallows. September also brings the kickoff of football season, which seems to be something most all of us enjoy!

There are also a few notable holidays to keep in the forefront of our minds during the month of September. This year, Labor Day falls on September 6th! Labor Day dates back to 1887 and commemo-rates the American labor movement as well as hon-ors the workers nationwide who contribute to the development and prosperity of our country! Septem-ber 11th marks the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 at-tacks on the Twin Towers. Do you remember where you were on that day in 2001? This date now signifies

a day of special remembrance for all those we lost and those who were affected.

We have so much to learn from the greatest generation, and it’s extra special to have a day that recognizes centenar-ians in our Legacy family!

Unwritten rules…

There are quite a few. They cover a multitude of topics. Most are common sense while to oth-ers you might ask, “Say what?” Now,

even though no one can tell us why, we all know you’re not supposed to wear white af-ter Labor Day. That’s the rule.

Allow me a little grammatical license in highlighting a few others. It is commonly known you should thank those who hold a door open. You never leave a shopping cart in the middle of the aisle. For heav-en’s sake close your mouth while chewing. Take turns talking but listen to what others say. Try not to one-up people and don’t be the one who always has two (or more) ailments, surgeries, diseases, or pains than others. Even though they have your life in their hands, don’t be a backseat driv-er. Never argue with a fool lest others get the two of you confused. Offer your seat to the elderly and most important of all, don’t even think about sitting in my seat in church.

If you’re a fan of Jim Croce’s 1972 hit song, you know you don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t pull the mask off the Lone Ranger, and you don’t mess around with Jim.

On the other side of the coin, we have writ-ten rules. Jay walking (especially in large cities) is frowned upon and is a ticketable offense. Tailgating, speeding, and driving on the wrong side of the road can also land you in court.

When contemplating whether or not to abide by any rule, consider the author. Mo-ses brought us the Ten Commandments. Notice these were not proposals but im-peratives. Even the lawyer in Luke 10:27 knew to inherit eternal life one must love the Lord with everything and love one’s neighbor as himself. Christ said, “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Mt.22:40)

I’m sure you have favorites to add to this short list of unwritten rules. Bottom line is this, think of JOY – Jesus, Others, Yourself, in that order.
