While this system worked relatively well, members have told us that they would prefer to communicate directly with a board member regarding resident club issues. For emails of a general nature or regarding broad based issues, mem- bers are encouraged to send the message to Mitch Barsalou and cc as many board members as desired. Board members will make every effort to acknowledge each email within three business days of receipt. In addition, the board has identified four ‘Signature events’ that we hope will take place yearly and which the board will help coordinate with an organizing commiee. These tentatively are: a Christmas dinner dance; a Welcome Spring Celebration; a Summer Outdoors Party; a Fall AGM and Member Appreciation event. Club Premises Update In an effort to serve members and maintain a positive working relationship with the resident club management and staff, the board invites eQ man- agement to aend part of each Board meeting to review current issues, provide updates and discuss initiatives going forward. Website Update The Advisory Board is working on setting up a working com-mittee comprised of directors and club members to manage and assist event organizers with the ongoing document and an-nouncement design, posting, response monitoring, updating and overall overseeing of the website. Over the years, the website has grown from a repository of in-formation to a valuable interactive information sharing and event management tool. At the same time, it serves as the main membership management tool for the owners. At the end of 2017, members Anna Best, Tim McLoughlin and Angela Kennedy, supported by New Path Consulting, con-tributed their time and expertise to this ambitious project. We are all in their debt and express our gratitude on behalf of the whole membership. We also thank other members who joined the website committee or acted as activity and events leads for various groups: at the risk of forgetting some, well deserved thanks go to Brad Weaver, Duncan Poole, Joan Beauregard, Sarah Herring and Joanne Lincoln, Carol Arnoni, Ted Liv-ingston and Craig Calvert. As with any large project, ongoing expansion of the site’s func-tionalities has also led to some unforeseen issues, the most im-portant ones surrounding the protection of personal and sensitive information and the ability or inability of the site’s in-frastructure to limit access to non-sensitive areas. As these is-sues came to light, the board initiated consultations with EQ management, the owner of the site. While this undertaking has posed challenges, we are determined to identify and imple-ment a workable and long-term solution. Given the sensitivities surrounding the safeguarding of per-sonal information, the board along with EQ management have decided, for the time being and until we can implement a so-lution satisfactory to all concerned, to limit the number of peo-ple granted access to the site’s infrastructure. We are fortunate to currently have the assistance of the facilities coordinator and a few dedicated members to accommodate re-quests as efficiently and effectively as we can. We understand that this transitionary situation has created frustration and has inconvenienced members but, under the circumstances, erring on the side of caution is the path the board has chosen. We are proceeding as fast as possible to rectify this issue and provide our members with a reliable site and improved service. We thank all members for your patience and understanding.

Message from the Board (Cont’d.)

In the email invitation for the AGM, we neglected to include the option for those member households

who have only one email address to add a second attendee . We have now added that possibility.

You may either cancel your individual registration and re-register two members. Alternatively, please send an email to advisory board member Kathy Vanderwel, asking her to add an additional member, providing the name of that member. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Election Results Members of the Advisory Board are pleased to welcome and introduce our two newly appointed directors

Monique Warrack Monique and her husband Ian arrived in Equinelle August 2011 as part of their future retirement plan. Ian retired two years ago and Monique last year. The golf, the future resident club facility and the

smaller community were the attractions for them. Monique’s enthusiasm and experience in fundraising, management and business ownership, will serve the Ad-visory Board and members well.

Val Devlin Val and her husband Steve have been residents of eQuinelle for over nine years and are very proud to call it their home. As a member of the Advisory Board, Val embraces the opportunity to ensure that our community continues to flourish as a

healthy, safe and fun neighbourhood that meets the needs of the evolving Resident Club membership. A retired long term public servant and private contractor, Val’s work experience and skills as well as her active involvement in a wide variety of activities and events including golf, pickleball, yoga and the gym will benefit us all.

Golf Committee Update John Polak is completing his term on the board on October 3rd. He will continue as Resident Club Golf League Committee Chair until the end of this season. A big Thank You to John for his contribution to the league. We welcome and thank Resident Club member Paula Cavan who will take over this function as of the next golf season.

Outdoor Courts Update The following update was provided by EDI at the re-quest of the board. Cavanaugh was the successful bidder and has initiated the construction of the outdoor courts. The company will construct 4 pickleball courts and 1 tennis court. Work began last year but the inordinate amount of rain has both delayed progress and has left the sub-grade wetter than anticipated, stalling work to allow the ground to dry naturally. As this process was not hap-pening, a geotechnical engineer was brought in in July to help and assess and recommend an alternate solution. The engineer recommended pumping water from the sub-grade and adding sub-drains. That work has now been added to Cavanaugh’s contract and the work should resume in the next few weeks. The goal is to have the courts paved by late October. eQ had designed the courts to be finished with a plexi pave finish on top of the asphalt but this product can only be put down when it is an average temperature of 15 degrees and there is no rain. As an interim measure, the plan is to paint the asphalt this fall and then wait for the right window of weather in 2020 to apply the plex pave. So if everything goes well, there might be a few days of use this year but the more likely outcome is that everything will be ready for a grand opening early next spring. Everyone's patience and understanding is appreciated.

Bridge continues to be a success for those of us who enjoy playing social bridge. Now that the weather is cooling, we have as many as four tables of bridge on Mon-

days and Wednesdays. Lots of fun. A few weeks ago we had a bridge lunch on the terrace, spouses included, nicely supported by the Fireside Grill servers and the kitchen. Hopefully, folks will be interested also in the Friday experienced players’ session at 1 p.m. Thanks to Dale Carscadden, we have an Equinelle bridge players’ page on the Equinelle Homeowners’ Facebook page, so if you are interested, just ask to join. Hope to see even more players out there soon!!

The league uses a 10-point handicap system and is open to all eQuinelle Resident Club members regard-less of playing ability. Interest in the league contin-ues to grow with registrations having more than

doubled over last year: we currently have 33 players already signed up to play in the eQuinelle Billiard League’s second season. Pool lessons directed at new or novice players have been well attended

as the league ramps up for the first games of the 2019/20 season on September 29. We look forward to watching the improvement of these new players as the season progresses. The league will run from the end of September to the end of April followed by a year-end tournament and banquet. Due to increased participation, the league has grown from two teams playing two nights a week to six teams playing on five nights. We are pleased to report that the October 2nd charity fashion show, sponsored by Jac’s Boutique and your Resident Club, is now sold out. Thanks to the overwhelming response of Resident Club members we have raised a substantial amount of money to donate to Leeds and Grenville Interval House, a shelter that offers temporary accommodation and support to abused women and their children. We encourage all those attending the show to bring various items for donation to Interval House residents, for example, new make up bags, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Attendees will have the opportunity to partici-pate in some fund-raising activities: a silent auc-tion, a raffle and a 50/50 draw. If you wish to make a cash contribution to Interval House, we will have envelopes available for this purpose. Donations over $20, cash or cheque, will be eligible for a tax receipt. We look forward to seeing an enthusiastic crowd at the show on October 2nd. The bar opens at 6:30 p.m. Those attending are going to have a great time for a great cause!

On Tuesday, August 27th, the Vint8ges held their last wine tasting for the summer. Each of the three events showcased six LCBO new release wines - 3 whites, and 3 reds, and featured a variety of grapes and vineyards from different countries. The sold out events themed "All About The Wine", had overall 95 warm seats learning the finer aspects of experiencing wine and picking their favourites. Participants were coached on aspects of evaluating and experiencing wine: examining the wine's colour and hue; and identifying aromas and taste. Participants overwhelmingly voted the event a big success, with the majority of participants indicating interest in future tastings in 2020. At the July event, Randy Hugues’ guest Melanie and Arlen Vanderwel each won a fine bottle of wine from the door prize draws, and at the August event, Larry Cavan and Catherine Allen also won door prizes. S p e c i a l thanks to Rick Milks, General Man-ager, who generous ly p r o v i d e d complimen-tary plates of cheese and cured meats as well as the door prizes at each event. His staff were instrumental to making these events successful. Thanks to The Vint8ges for making these events possible!'
