Werle played his college career at Juniata (Pa.), an NCAA Division III school with a long history of volleyball success for both men and women. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Sports Management. He replaces Brent Martindale who coached the T-Birds for four years before resigning to return to his native Utah. Along with his outstanding collegiate career, Werle served as assistant coach at Grand Canyon Uni-versity for the last three years and has a long list of accomplishments after graduating from Juniata. He completed as Masters' Degree in Business Admin-istration with an emphasis in Leadership while at GCU. He has competed the past five years on teams that played in the USA Open Championships, winning one national title. He also trained with the American men's national team in 2010. Werle has played a big role with the USA Premier Volleyball League, part of the effort to create a men's professional league. At Juniata, he was selected as an American Vol-leyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American all four years and was chosen as the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Year as a senior. As a setter, he helped the Eagles to three Molten Division III national championships. His T-Bird team began practice Aug. 1 and will be-gin its season travelling to Glendale on Wednesday, Aug. 27. MCC will play its first home match Friday, Sept.. 5 against Chandler-Gilbert.
