The Senior Christmas Lunch is now set for Tuesday, December 4, in the CLC, beginning at noon. Again this year, the ladies of our Elizabeth Rand Circle will be providing a delicious lunch. We are hoping to provide transportation to many of our Seniors who normally may not be able to attend. There will be a sign-up sheet available closer to December 4 - we need to have an estimate on how many people will plan to be with us. The UMW is always excited to see folks we have not seen in a while - it will be a wonderful time to visit with many of our retired folks. Time for the Craft Fair already?? It is hard to believe plans are being made for this huge event, scheduled for November 3, in the CLC begin- ning at 9:00 a.m. The UMW tables are always some of the most popular stops - we are all set up with home-made goodies and other items. Please plan to come to the Craft Fair and purchase a treat from our UMW ladies. All four Circles are encouraged to participate, especially pro- viding ladies to "man" our tables all during day - in very short shifts (so you can do some shopping).

UMW Scholarship This spring our UMW honored Emily Chalk with the 8th annual Evelyn Staley Scholar-ship. Our thanks to the Staley family for supporting our church and its young adults by funding this in memory of their mother, Evelyn Staley, long-time member of Gar-ner UMC & our UMW. Congratulations to Emily as she begins her studies at UNC-Chapel Hill!

NEW CAPITAL DISTRICT FORMED

The Garner UMW is now a part of the Capital Dis-

trict. We had been called the Raleigh District for

many years. There is a new slate of District Offi-

cers, headed by Roxie Floyd, from Wilson Temple

UMC on Oberlin Road in Raleigh. Roxie was our

Vice-President in the Raleigh District and she will

do a great job as Capital President. Her Vice Presi-

dent is Becky Brock from Fremont.

Benches in Memory of Hilda Richardson

Earlier this year, the Elizabeth Rand Circle purchased

two cushioned benches for the Narthex area with me-

morial money received in memory of circle member Hilda Richardson who passed away in January 2010.

Hilda's welcoming and nurturing personality guided the decision to use the memorial money to purchase

the benches to add a touch of warmth and comfort to

the Narthex area for members and guests to enjoy.

Thanks to our guest Marsha King for providing a

great program on September 16! It was a pleasure

to have the new Capital District President, Vice

President and Membership representative with us.
