NEWSLETTER No. 13 10th May2018
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
Thank you to Mrs Keddie and the Year 5 students who
led us in our ANZAC Day Liturgy last Friday. It will
always be important for all of us to reflect upon the
ultimate sacrifices many men and women have made
over time in order to keep our country safe. The Liturgy
was a very solemn ceremony with the students having the
opportunity to think about how lucky we are to live in this
country.
On Monday morning, the Legion of Mary from the Parish
brought to our school the statue of Our Lady of the
Rosary. The statue processed from the front of the
school to its special place in the Sacred Space where it
will remain for the week. The students then prayed a
decade of the Rosary as a school community. Each of
the classes will visit the statue during the week and will
recite the Rosary and pray for peace. The statue will then
return to the Church for our Mass for Mothers on Friday.
Mother’s Day takes place on Sunday 13th May. As a
school community we will celebrate a Mass for Mothers
on Friday 11th May. It will start at 9:30am and it will be
held at St Francis of Assisi Church in Maida Vale. All
parents and members of our community, particularly
mothers and grandmothers, are invited to join with us and
then stay for the morning tea that will follow. I would like
to thank the P&F who are coordinating the morning tea
and who did a fantastic job coordinating the Mother’s Day
gifts.
Our Faction Cross Country took place this morning.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in
LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us. (Isaiah 26:12)
what is a very tough event. Special congratulations to the
students who received medals for their achievements. I
would like to thank Miss Andersen for all her work with
organising the event and preparing the students. I would
also like to thank the staff for their support and thank the
parents who came along to help out or support the
students. Our interschool team will be announced shortly
and this carnival will take place on Friday 25th May.
Next week the students from Years 3 and 5 will
participate in the National Assessment Programme for
Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). We wish them well in
these assessments. Parents will receive their child’s
results as soon as they become available.
A reminder to all our families that the next P&F meeting
will take place on Wednesday 16th May. It will begin at
7:30pm and it will be held in the library. All are welcome.
I would also like to inform families that, due to particular
circumstances, the Year 6 and Pre-Primary assembly
dates have been swapped with each other. The Year 6
assembly will now take place on the 29th June and the
Pre-Primary assembly will take place on the 15th June.
We apologise if this causes any inconvenience.
Have a great week.

YEAR 2 NEWS
Last week we welcomed Joshua Carpenter to our class
and the children are doing a great job of helping Joshua
settle into our class and school. There have definitely
been lots of examples of the children making Jesus Real!
On Monday we took part in welcoming the Mary statue to
Matthew Gibney. We spent time in the Sacred Space on
Wednesday praying to Mary. This week we have also
talked lots about our very special MUMS and all the
wonderful things about them. We made mini mums and
thought of five adjectives that best describe our mums.
The children have also been very busy making a special
gift which they can’t wait to give to you!
Wishing you a very special weekend!!

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS The children have returned from their holidays refreshed
and keen to get back into their school routine! The term
started off with discussions about ANZAC Day and the
meanings of some Anzac symbols. The children were
very well-behaved and respectful when we attended our
school’s Anzac Day ceremony.
This term, we will be exploring the themes – People Who
Work in Our Community, Dinosaurs and Book Studies.
This week, we have also been preparing for ‘Mother’s
Day’. During our prayer circle, we have been sharing
ideas on the importance of mums and all that they do for
us. The children are looking forward to going to Mass at
the church on Friday and share the Mother’s Day Mass
with the rest of the school.
This week, we started group rotations for literacy and
numeracy activities. The children have adapted to the
new routines very well and our parent helpers have been
awesome. As a reminder, please check your child’s ‘take-
home folder’ on a daily basis for important letters and
completed work samples.
Have a great week!

YEAR 6 NEWS
Wow! What a busy term we have… On Friday, we are
going to participate in our first winter sports games at
Maida Vale and we are busying preparing to be able to
do our very best. In Art, we are preparing beautiful
presents for our mums which we can’t wait to give to
them on Sunday. We really do hope that all our beautiful
mums have an amazing day! Not only have we been
busy in the classroom and outside the classroom, we
were lucky enough to welcome Mia Carpenter into our
class last Wednesday and we have loved getting to know
her over the past week! We really hope you enjoy being
part of our classroom and enjoy ending your primary
school journey with us, Mia.
We can’t wait to see what else is in store for us this term.
