NEWSLETTER No. 11 2nd May 2019
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
I would like to welcome you back to the beginning of Term
2. I hope that all our families enjoyed the time away from
school routine, had a Happy and Holy Easter and that the
students have come back refreshed and ready for the joys
and challenges that will inevitably be part of this term. I
would particularly like to welcome our new families to the
school. I trust that you will find our community welcoming
and our teaching and learning programme will assist your
children to achieve their potential.
Thank you to our families who show support for our school
by ensuring that the students have returned in full winter
uniform. I understand that some families are still waiting
on backorders for skirts and trousers and we hope that
these arrive very soon. The students looked very smart
yesterday. A reminder to families to adhere to our uniform
policy, which can be found on our school website and was
included in our newsletter towards the end of last term.
Our Year 5 class will lead our school in recognising
ANZAC Day at a special liturgy on Friday morning. It will
start at 9:05am and it will be held in the grassed area
adjacent to the undercover area. All parents and members
of our community are invited to join with us as we
remember the many women and men who served in our
armed forces, some who made the ultimate sacrifice in
order for our country to enjoy the freedom that it currently
experiences.
Next week the Statue of our Lady will be visiting our school
for the week. May is traditionally recognised as the Month
of Mary and the students will have the opportunity to visit
the statue and pray a decade of the Rosary, the prayer that
is attributed to Mary. We thank the Legion of Mary from
the Maida Vale Parish for giving us the opportunity to
experience this aspect of our faith.
Our school has been given the opportunity to be a polling
place for the upcoming Federal Election that will be held on
Saturday 18th May. This is a great privilege for our school.
Our P&F is busy organising food opportunities for voters
and we see this is a great fund raising occasion. It is also
a chance for local people to get to know the location of our
school. Many new families tell me at their interviews that
they didn’t even know that our school was here until
someone mentioned it to them. Please spread the word.
On Friday 10th May the school will be celebrating a Mass
for Mothers. The Mass will be held at St Francis of Assisi
Church. It will begin at 9:30am and all members of our
community are invited to attend, especially mothers,
grandmothers and other significant women. Following the
Mass, the P&F will hold a morning tea that will be held in
the Parish Hall and we hope that many will stay on to
attend.
The Year 6 students were a pleasure to take away on
camp last term. Their behaviour was excellent and we
were often compliemented by members of the public as
well as camp activity providers on the outstanding
behaviour of our Year 6 students. They were a credit to
their family and to our school. A very big thank you to Miss
Zurzolo who organised the camp and to Mrs Tormey and
Miss Blaszczyk who helped supervise. Although the
students were very tired when they arrived back at school,
I am sure there were many stories to tell.
Have a great week!

Project Compassion 2019
If you have any Project Compassion boxes at home,
please return them to school, so we can forward your
donation to Caritas. Many thanks to all those children
and families, who have so generously donated to this
very worthwhile cause.
“Mass for Mothers” Friday 10th May
All our wonderful mums and grandmothers are invited to
attend our Parish School on Friday 10th May at 9.30am at
St Francis of Assisi Church, Maida Vale, and then enjoy
morning tea together.
May, the Month of Mary
May is the month dedicated to Our
Lady. The Blessed Virgin Mary is
the Mother of the Church and
therefore the example, as well as
the guide and inspiration, of all who
seek to follow Jesus’ teachings.
Throughout the school we will be
saying the Rosary throughout the
month.
We look forward to the special
arrival of the Statue of Mary from the Parish on Monday
6th May. The procession will start outside the School
Office, move along the pathway to the Sacred Space in
the Library. As Mary is installed with honour, we will pray
the Rosary. All family and friends are welcome to join
with us.

YEAR 1 NEWS
Welcome back to Term 2 everyone and an especially
warm welcome to Brody. The class are very excited to
have a new friend! This Friday we will participate in the
Anzac Day ceremony at school and have been talking
about Anzac Day in preparation for this solemn event.
Next Friday, we will celebrate Mothers' Day Mass at the
Church. Parents are welcome to join us on either or both
of these occasions. Thank you to the parents who have
been changing over the Reading Books all year - your
help is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all our families had a
wonderful Easter and relaxing holidays! We welcome Mrs
Ellen Howell to Pre Primary! Ellen is a student teacher
carrying out her fourth year teaching practical. The
children have adjusted to having 3 teachers in the
classroom and we look forward to an exciting term! This
term, we will be exploring a dinosaur theme as well as
some book studies. This week, we have also been
preparing for ‘Mother’s Day’. During our prayer circle, we
will be sharing ideas on the importance of mums,
grandmas, nanas, nonnos and other women in our lives. I
have received the speech reports following the speech
assessments which were done in Term 1. These reports
will be sent home tomorrow. Please let me know if you
would like to discuss this report further once you have
read it. Have a great week!

YEAR 5 NEWS
This week we have been preparing for our Anzac Service
on Friday morning. We have created some beautiful
Anzac Poppy artworks, to use as part of our ceremony. It
was great to see, how all the Year 5 students helped one
another to complete this project, as they were a bit fiddly.
We look forward to seeing our families on Friday morning,
as we remember the Anzacs. There were lots of smiles
and positive vibes, when we spent time, identifying in
ourselves and others, our talents and good qualities, as
part of our new Religion unit. It’s amazing what other
people see in us.
