Are you a portrait painter looking to progress your career?

Are you a portrait painter looking to become a member of the most long standing and forward thinking organisation who promotes and supports the practice of portraiture?

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters always welcomes applications from portrait artists from around the UK. Unlike many societies

your application doesn’t have to be proposed or seconded, you are judged solely on the quality of your work.

Portraiture is a unique talent, which is why the RP put such a heavy focus on your work being the gateway to your acceptance in the

society. In order to proceed with an application, you must complete the following steps.

You need to submit work to our annual exhibition which opens each November.

It is also imperative that you indicate you are an Applicant on your exhibition entry form.

Once completed, the RP selection committee will then assess your work and decide whether or not to add your name to the candidates list. If selected, artists will be invited to submit

additional examples of their work to be assessed at the Annual General Meeting.

This meeting takes place after the exhibition has closed and is the point at which it is voted upon whether or not you are to be

accepted into the Royal Society.

Successful candidates will be informed by post and serve as members for three years. After the three years are up a year must pass before you are allowed to reapply. The only acception to this

rule is if the committee decide you should be granted an extension.

Whilst this may seem a complicated process it is in place in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the society. If you are a portrait

painter, London is one of the best cities to exhibit in.
