Vijaya Kumar, a resident ofVadapalani, had gone missingon the evening of May 8, andhis wife Sukanya lodged a com-plaint with the Vadapalanipolice.

The anxious family also putup ‘missing’ posters across thecity, with the contact details ofthe family and relatives, in thehope of finding him.

On the night of May 9, thefamily received a call from theAshok Nagar police, who said

Vijaya Kumar had been de-tained in the police station andasked them to come and takehim home.

Vijaya Kumar returnedhome with his parents butcomplained of uneasiness andwas taken to the Rajiv GandhiGovernment General Hospi-tal where doctors said he diedwithout responding to treat-ment.

According to the police offic-ers, they had called VijayaKumar to the station for ques-tioning after a complaint waslodged against him by a hote-lier. Vijaya Kumar is survivedby his wife and two sons,Shyam and Ganesh.

It will be launched atThirumangalam Metro Sta-tion (2nd Avenue, next toMetrowater Office, AnnaNagar) at around 11 a.m onSunday, May 14.

City’s first underground Metrorail launch today

Union Minister for UrbanDevelopment Venkaiah Nai-du will attend the openingceremony.

It will be operational from 6a.m to 10 p.m on all days andthe frequency of the trainswill be 15 minutes.

According to a CMRLspokesperson, passengersmay find it easy to access thestations from nearby nei-ghbourhoods in the comingmonths, as CMRL officials arein talks with MTC and cab

aggregators to provide com-muters with last mileconnectivity.

The inauguration comesalmost a month after theCommissioner of MetrorailSafety conducted final ins-pection of the undergroundstretch.

The work on extending theunderground line up to Chen-nai Central via Egmore is inprogress.

The stations will connectseveral neighbourhoodsincluding Kilpauk, New AvadiRoad, Shenoy Nagar, Aminji-karai, Anna Nagar and Thiru-mangalam, giving access tomass transit facility for itsresidents for the first time.

With its getting operational,commuters can head any-where from Nehru Park to theairport in one direction, andto Little Mount in the other,in about 60 minutes with asingle ticket. However, theymay have to switch corridorsat Alandur Metro Station,which is the elevated transithub.

The trains will run alongboth tunnels only betweenKoyambedu and ShenoyNagar. Only one tunnel willbe operational for trainsrunning up and down betweenShenoy Nagar and NehruPark, as it would not bepossible for trains to changetracks without a crossover.

There is a crossover atShenoy Nagar and another isbeing built at Central metrostation. Hence, the othertunnel between Shenoy Nagarand Nehru Park will be openedalong with Central MetroStation, planned by the end of2017.

that were in need of rest after treading on the feet of manya lawyer and mighty robe wearers, would now be sending histhunderboltish curses at the final convicting crew who shothim down with a single lance of “contempt of court”.

The climax of this courtroom drama having come afteran Wodehouseian series of twists and turns where bothsides were passing orders to have the other’s head to beexamined by shrinks! This final order of arrest having comefrom the Mighty Bench to warn people that what is pass-able in Donald Trump’s Orange Republic is not allowable inour India, which is no Banana Republic and still maintainsthat Law is the same for all.

Karnan must have seen all as equal too - equally corrupt!And now with the police after him, he seems to have leftunpaid bills in his wake at the guest house in his hurry notbe part of the welcoming party when the long arm of lawreaches out to grab his wrist.

Who knows why the man did what he did in trying to beat loggerheads with the Bench of Judges? Was he beingeccentric and irrational or was he merely a seeker of truth,not willing to rest on his laurels but striving to outshine thestars? Why are millions in the world still making mistakes?If, from committing several billion mistakes, a ray of truthemerges, then this beautiful earth can be saved perhaps tillanother truth seeker finds the next grain of truth. Thatperhaps is the office of everyone born, be it Sadanand,Trump, or Karnan. Of course, it helps in the process if onecan keep a civil tongue while searching for the truth.

Now that the arrest and six month jail term, not tomention the gag order on the press, are imminent, newspa-pers will become a dull affair again, after providing so muchentertainment from February with all the court comedy.

Karnan was probably only living up to the reputation ofhis mythological namesake as the eternal giver, by dolingout generous sentences of 5 years RI and Rs. 2 crores fineeach to the Supreme Court Bench of Judges!!

Based on this, I contacted their centralizedbooking number and provided details theyhad sought to get myself registered.

Following this, I got an SMS indicating thebooking number, the required quantity (6000liters) and the amount I needed to pay (Rs.510). To my shock, I found that the amountcharged for booking 6000 liters using the online/centralized phone system is higher by Rs. 110.The same quantity of water, booked directly atthe zonal office, costs only Rs. 400.

That over and above the charges for thetanker, one has to pay tips to the drivers, isanother matter.
