The charismatic personality of the Holy Father As the second millennium cameto a close under the guidance ofHis Holiness John Paul II, whotransformed the religious and ci-vic history of many nations, theHoly Spirit brought about theelection of His Holiness BenedictXVI, chosen by God, Christ andthe Virgin Mother of Jesus, tooccupy the place of St. Peter for

his respected human qualitiesand great devotion to Christ. HisHoliness conveys a message ofpleasant tranquility, for heknows that saintliness is serenitythat can capture the attention ofthe masses and cause profoundchange within the human heart.Through his caring, steadfast ex-pression and arms outstretched

to embrace and minister to follo-wers, the Pope communicatesthe meaning of life to all Man-kind. That same meaning sati-sfies the human desire for happi-ness and spirituality and leads in-dividuals towards the discoveryof God’s purpose for their livesand towards God Himself.

The Holy Father and the youth movementFrom August 18-21, 2005, theHoly Father went to his nativecountry of Germany, for the firsttime as Pope, to be present inCologne for the 20th WorldYouth Day. On this occasion, thePope presented himself as a pa-rent, open to the positive visionof the triumph of good and sup-port for all. He called them “mydear youth” and “dear youngfriends”, thereby promoting auniversal attitude that is freefrom distinctions based on geo-graphic, cultural or religious dif-

ferences. He encouraged everyo-ne by saying, “I am happy to behere with so many young peo-ple, to uphold the faith and, if itpleases God, to bring you ho-pe.” Later, he gave them the in-centive, symbolized by the Starof the Bethlehem, “…to walkthrough life in search of truth,love and peace”. When he spo-ke about the problems of this li-fe, he added that Christ satisfiesthe desires of young people whoare in search of happiness be-cause, “ . . . Jesus of Nazareth, in

the sacrament of Communion,…makes life free, beautiful andabundant”. Many young peopleare in agreement with the HolyFather, and for thisreason we haveenormous crowdsof youth that comejust to spend a fewminutes experien-cing the truth,beauty and love ofhis presence.

The thoughts of His Holiness, who inherited the Churchfrom John Paul II and continues to spread the evangelicalChristian message through his first encyclical, due out inDecember, 2005.

The Pope and the Liturgy of his first Encyclical We want to mention Christ-centrism,which made the difference in humandevelopment as it brought men froma standpoint of simple reason to em-brace faith and grace – which com-plete human nature. Now, the appli-cation of this principle, putting Christat the center of one’s existence, is

able to quench the thirst for authen-tic happiness felt by all Mankind, andin his first encyclical, the Pope ex-plains this approach to living. The pu-blication also presents the Liturgy as apublic work that, through Christ,binds people to God, to themselves,to each other, and to the natural

world. When we take part in commu-nion with love, we experience a cen-tral part of the Christian message, in-cluding the social aspect of theChurch as a place of fellowship andsource of help towards overcomingthe barriers of distrust and separa-tion.

The Pope and the IV International Sciacca Award

His Holiness Benedict XVI was thewinner of this year’s award, assignedby the National Association for Cul-ture and Volunteer Service “Uomo eSocietà” (Man and Society), with aceremony held on November 12 in

the Aula Magna of the Pontifical Ur-baniana University in Vatican City,and everyone was honored when thePope accepted this important award.His Eminence, Cardinal Zenon Gro-cholewski gave a speech in name of

the winners thanking the organizersof the event and praising them for in-volving both adults in teaching andinstructional roles and young peopleas dedicated students.

La personalità carismatica del Santo Padre Mentre il secondo millennio sichiudeva sotto l’influsso dellapotente personalità di Sua San-tità Giovanni Paolo II, che hatrasformato la storia religiosa ecivile di tanti popoli; Dio Uno eTrino, il Cristo Figlio di Dio In-carnato e la Vergine Madre diDio, all’alba del terzo millenniohanno fatto eleggere, con l’illu-

minazione dello Spirito Santo,alla Cattedra di San Pietro, SuaSantità Benedetto XVI, per lasua distinta figura di personacolta e umana, e di grande con-vinzione cristiana. Sua Santità èil Papa dal volto sereno e sorri-dente, perché sa che la santitàè serenità, capace di catalizzarele folle e di trasmettere, col suo

sguardo dolce e deciso, con lesue mani allargate in un ab-braccio e in elevazione orante,a tutti gli uomini il significatodell’esistenza, che appaga il de-siderio di felicità, e la sublima-zione, che conduce l’individuoall’autorealizzazione, all’auto-trascendenza fino alla Trascen-denza.

Il Santo Padre e i giovaniDal 18 al 21 agosto 2005 il Santo Padre ètornato per la prima volta come Papa nel-la sua Germania , a Colonia, perché neipiani della Provvidenza era organizzata la20° giornata mondiale della Gioventù.Qui il Papa si è mostrato con il cuore di unpadre e di una madre aperto alla visionepositiva del trionfo del bene ed al soste-gno di tutti, chiamandoli: “Carissimi gio-vani” e “Cari giovani amici”, per una vi-sione universale senza confini geografici,di cultura e di fede, ma a tutti dando l’in-coraggiamento: “”Sono felice di stare inmezzo ai giovani, di sostenere la fede e, aDio piacendo, di animarne la speranza”, e

più avanti presenta l’incentivo, simboleg-giato dalla stella dei Magi, : “…ad affron-tare il cammino della vita alla ricerca del-la verità, dell’amore e della pace”, e dis-quisendo poi dei problemi della vita ag-giunge che Cristo appaga il desiderio deigiovani che cercano la felicità, perché:“…Gesù di Nazareth, nascosto nell’Euca-restia, …rende la vita libera, bella e gran-de”. Il cuore di tanti giovani batte all’uni-sono con quello del Santo Padre, per que-sto motivo abbiamo folle enormi di giova-ni, che accorrono per pochi attimi dellaSua presenza di verità, bellezza e amoredi Padre Santo.

Il Papa e la Liturgia nella prima EnciclicaAccenniamo al Cristocentrismo, che comeha fatto compiere il salto di qualità nel pro-cesso evolutivo dell’uomo, dalla sempliceragione alla fede alla grazia, che completa-no la natura umana, ora appaga la sete difelicità autentica di tutti gli uomini e vienesviluppato nella sua prima Enciclica. TaleEnciclica presenta la Liturgia quale opera

pubblica, che tramite il Cristo lega le perso-ne a Dio, a se stessi, agli altri e alla natura,quando si partecipa con amore all’Eucare-stia, che ne suoi molteplici aspetti viene po-sta al centro della pastorale, ma anche del-la vita sociale per un incontro di comunio-ne e di sereno aiuto, superando le barrieredella diffidenza e della separazione.

� 18 по 21 августа 2005 года!енедикт XVI впервые как�апа посетил родную7ерманию, �ёльн, поскольку поволе �ровидения тампроводился XX �семирныйдень молодёжи. �апа явил своёлюбящее по-отечески сердце,убеждённое в торжестве добраи открытое для помощиближнему, так обратившись ковсем: «1орогая молодёжь!1орогие молодые друзья!» �идямир в его целостности, безгеографических, культурных,религиозных границ, обращаяко всем свои слова ободрения,#го �вятейшество продолжал:«Я счастлив находиться средимолодёжи, поддержать веру и с!ожьей помощью вдохнутьнадежду». Обратившись к

образу звезды �олхвов,!енедикт XVI призвал«следовать по жизненному путив поисках истины, любви имира». >азмышляя о проблемахжизни, #го �вятейшестводобавил, что �ристосудовлетворяет желаниемолодёжи, ищущей счастье, ибо«'исус из �азарета, скрытый в#вхаристии …делает жизньсвободной, прекрасной,великой». �ердца многихмолодых людей бьются вунисон с сердцем �апы,поэтому и собираются вокругнего огромные толпымолодёжи, чтобы хоть нанесколько мгновенийприобщиться к истине, красотеи святейшей любви.
