Greetings to all Lions and Befrienders. With the coming festive seasons in December 2019 and January 2020, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year in 2020.

Lions Befrienders (LB) was established in 1995 as a social service agency with a mission to provide friendship and care for our befriendees to age in place with community participation and enjoy meaningful and enriching lives. Over the years, LB has established its strength in Befriending Services and Community Outreach Services.

Times have changed. The befriending programme is now supported by the Ministry of Health and the commitment and involvement from the Ministries are getting more challenging. Singapore’s eldercare landscape is also changing fast. LB’s current programmes, directives and operations need to be reviewed to stay relevant. We need to:

1. Work for stronger government partnership2. Improve on corporate governance and accountability 3. Leverage and tap on effective government funding4. Have in place effective succession planning5. Actualise plans for the senior care sector to be an

integrated community enabling holistic care for all seniors

The current task facing me and the newly elected team which came into office on 1 November 2019 is to establish our organisation to be a pro-active social service agency where capable people with the right attitude and aptitude come forth to serve. More Lions, especially the young Lions, will be encouraged to be actively involved in LB’s activities.

As we grow, we also change for the better. And I am confident to lead the change for a better tomorrow. The seed that was planted in 1995 shall continue to grow healthily and provide the umbrella of care and comfort to its stakeholders.

Let’s serve as One Family and build a strong LB for a better tomorrow for our Befriendees.

本协会向狮子会与义工友人们致上问候。随着即将来临的节日，我借此机会祝大家圣诞节快乐，在2020年度过一个快乐又繁荣昌盛的一年。

成立于1995年，狮子乐龄之友协会（狮协）作为一家非营利慈善机构，致力于为孤寡年长者提供友伴服务，满足他们的社会和心理需求。我们通过向年长者伸出友谊之手并提供关怀，好让他们能在居住多年的社区原地养老， 过着精彩又有意义的晚年。狮协在多年以来已在友伴服务以及扩展社区服务计划中建立了相当的实力。

时代已改变。如今，狮协的友伴服务是卫生部资助的项目之一，而这份支持来得更具有挑战性。新加坡老年护理的格局也在迅速变化。我们需要审查狮协此时的服务计划，领导方向和运作方式来确保我们能持续有相关性。我们必须：

1. 加强与政府的合作关系2. 提高组织的治理与问责制3. 善用政府的资金4. 制定有效的继任计划5. 落实一个能使乐龄服务融入社区的计划，为所有

年长者提供一个全方面的服务

我和新当选的委员们（11/01/2019上任）面临的当前任务是要建立一个积极正面的组织，让拥有正确态度和有能力的人能够服务年长者。我想鼓励更多的狮子会会员，尤其是年轻的会员，积极参与狮协的活动。

我们会随着成长而越变越好。我有信心带领改革，迈向更好的明天。在1995年种植的种子将继续健康地生长，并为狮协所有的志愿者，捐赠者和赞助者提供一个有关怀与舒适的服务环境。

让我们作为一个家庭，一同建立强大的狮协，为我们的年长者创造更好的明天。

CONNECTING SENIORS THROUGH IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGY

The Immersive Room, a LB IT initiative, was soft-launched on 17 October 2019 at Mei Ling SAC. Using all forms of perceptual and interactive technologies, this technology creates an immersive experience that blurs the line between the physical and stimulated world. Being purposed to enhance the lives of the SAC seniors, the project connects them to their environment holistically through stimulating, engaging or calming set-ups. The advantages of adopting immersive technology include improving the seniors’ physical and mental health, through exposing them to a new technology in a safe environment. It also enables seniors to have tremendous experiences of a new world, which they could not otherwise visit because of their physical impairment and reduced mobility.

Coloured outlines images done by the seniors on paper or iPad are projected on the walls as animations, with environmental sounds and visuals that delivers a realistic touch, thus putting seniors at ease. Once detected, the floor sensors would trigger a signal to display special effects in the animation. Using immersive and interactive

Leveraging on technology to conduct the popular bingo game is an elevation from the traditional paper and pen method, which not only provides the novelty of a new experience, but also conserves time and resources. The music and bingo animation are controlled via the tablet-based integration system.

environments based on sights, sounds, visuals and touch, these sensory interventions enable the seniors to proactively self-regulate their emotions and impulses which in turn prevent seclusion.

Physical Well-being Understanding that low levels of physical activity in seniors could result in functional decline, the creation of an exercise buddy serves to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. The virtual garden landscapes with birds, plants and trees to simulate being in the outdoors turn exercise into an immersive, exciting experience for the seniors rather than a chore.

Psychological Well-being The Heritage Walk is designed for seniors to take a trip down memory lane as they revisit their favourite old haunts - Little India, Chinatown and Kampong Glam. It evokes discussion of positive nostalgic experiences, which increases motivation and focus, and fosters self-worth.

The different types of exercises include Xianggong, Lala and Aerobics, with varying speeds catered to the abilities of the seniors.

Social Well-beingLB utilises fully interactive templates to bring Spring, Autumn and Winter to the seniors. The templates are a seamless projection across the room, with added elements such as sounds, lightings and other effects to make the experience truly immersive. With this, the seniors are taken on journeys they never thought possible.

BEFRIENDERS’ DAY 2019 2019乐龄之友日

Our befrienders gathered for the annual Befrienders’ Day on 27 July 2019 at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, where we celebrated and affirmed their efforts for faithfully serving the befriendees under their care.

在2019年7月27日，狮协友伴服务的义工们欢聚在新加坡华族文化中心，庆祝一年一度的乐龄之友日。我们在此欢庆并肯定他们诚心照顾年长者所付出的努力。

The fun-filled carnival games, activities and photobooth brought smiles to the befrienders. 充满乐趣的嘉年华会游戏，各种活动和攝相亭为乐龄之友们带来了欢笑。

A heartfelt thanks to all befrienders for making an immerse difference to those in need. 衷心感谢协助他人的所有乐龄之友义工们。

An entertaining and engaging skit was planned and produced by the befriending team. 由乐龄之友团队策划和制作的一个有趣且引人入胜的短剧。

CHARITY CAR RALLY 2019 2019慈善汽车拉力赛

Returning after its last edition in 2013, the LB Charity Car Rally 2019 was flagged off by Guest of Honour, Professor Fatimah Lateef, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC on 1 September at Carros Centre. More than 60 cars, including classic cars, participated in this fundraising initiative organised by LB to raise support and public awareness of the social isolation amongst seniors in the community.

2019年9月1日的狮协汽车拉力赛在2013年后再次举办，由特邀嘉宾，马林百列集选区国会议员花蒂玛医生挥旗，在卡洛斯中心拉开序幕。包括老爷车在内的60多辆汽车参加了狮协举办的这项筹款项目，为提高公众对于社区年长者的社会隔离感的认识。

The day dawned crisp and clear and participants were beaming with excitement as they set off for the ride. 黎明清新而晴朗，参与者们出发去乘车时兴奋不已。

To add an element of fun and excitement to the event, seniors from Mei Ling SAC were invited for a joyride in the classic cars. 为了使活动更加刺激有趣，来自美玲乐龄活动中心的年长者受邀乘坐老爷车出行。

An awesome display of grit and determination clinched this team the top prize. 出色的毅力和决心让这支队伍获得了最高奖项。

MEI LING SAC 20TH ANNIVERSARY 美玲乐龄活动中心20周年庆典

On 5 September 2019, Mei Ling SAC celebrated its 20th anniversary at SAFRA Mount Faber. Queenstown SCN Advisors, Dr. Chia Shi-Lu, MP of Tanjong Pagar GRC, and Mr. Christopher de Souza, MP of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, graced the event as Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all who have contributed to the sustenance and growth of the centre all these years.

LB’s Chairman (2017 – 2019), Lion william Loh, represented LB for the cheque presentation ceremony at the Maybank Global Corporate Responsibility Day. 狮协主席（2017-2019），罗永发狮兄，代表狮协参加了马来亚银行全球企业责任日的支票颁发仪式。

Ang Mo Kio SAC’s seniors performed on the drums for the opening act. 来自宏茂桥乐龄活动中心的年长者在开幕式演奏鼓乐。

Maybank’s corporate responsibility efforts involve organising terrarium workshops for three SACs and functional screening sessions for six SACs. The terrariums were also sold to raise funds for LB. 马来业银行企业责任的努力包括为三所乐龄活动中心组织玻璃容器工作坊，以及为六所乐龄活动中心的年长者进行视力检查。玻璃容器也被出售为狮协筹集资金。

MAGIC CARES VAN 魔法关爱车

Since June 2019, our Toa Payoh befriendees have benefitted from the weekly music-making sessions under the Magic Cares Van Community Programme. A partnership between SBS Transit and I’m Soul Inc, this programme uses movement-led technology to help seniors make music easily. On 10 October 2019, our befriendees performed what they learnt at the official launch at Toa Payoh Bus Interchange.

自今年6月以来，狮协大巴窑的年长者因参与了魔法关爱车活动的每周音乐制作讲座而受益了许多。这是由新捷运和社会企业智音（I’m Soul Inc）联合发动的一项活动车社区爱心活动。通过非一般的音乐科技，年长者能把身体动作转化成音乐。在2019年10月10日，狮协的年长者在巴窑巴士转换站的正式发布会上呈现了他们几个礼拜下来所学到的音乐制作。 The programme was officially launched by Minister for Transport,

Each week, SBS bus captains held music sessions at the Toa Payoh HDB void decks. They led our befriendees to dance, sing and explore the touch-free music devices that translates body movements into music and sounds. 每周的活动在大巴窑组屋区的公共空间举办，由新捷运巴士车长带领年长者们唱歌与舞蹈和探索接触式音乐设备以及通过身体动作制作音乐和声音。

The Magic Cares Van has enabled our befriendees to make music even with no prior musical background. 即使没有音乐背景，年长者可以通过魔法关爱车活动学习音乐制作。

APPRECIATION & AwARDS PRESENTATION 2019 2019感谢与表彰大会

The annual LB Appreciation & Awards Presentation 2019 took place at SAFRA Toa Payoh on 11 October with Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transport, Dr. Lam Pin Min gracing the event as Guest of Honour. The event commemorates and recognises volunteers, donors and sponsors who have contributed time, energy and money to make a difference in the lives of the seniors under LB’s programmes and services.

狮协2019年度感谢与表彰大会于10月11日在大巴窑战备军人协会举行。卫生部和交通部高级政务部长蓝彬明医生作为荣誉嘉宾对此活动表示祝贺。该活动旨在纪念和表彰在狮协计划和服务中贡献出时间，精力和金钱来改善年长者生活的志愿者，捐赠者和赞助者。

On 9 October 2019, the Ang Mo Kio SAC seniors were invited to perform on the drums at the Community Chest Awards Ceremony at the Istana. It was an honour for the Joyful Percussion Drum Band to be given this opportunity to contribute to the community by raising funds for other vulnerable seniors through their musical performances.

在2019年10月9日，狮协宏茂桥乐龄活动中心的年长者应邀在总统府举办的公益金颁奖典礼上进行鼓乐表演。参加的年长者们很高兴为其他弱势年长者进行音乐表演，筹集资金，为社区作出贡献的机会。

LB’s senior, Mr. Lee Cho Poon was conferred the Singapore Patient Caregiver Award on 25 October 2019. Organised by Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the event is dedicated to honour caregivers for their strength, resilience and unwavering dedication in caring for their loved ones amid challenges. Mr. Lee emerged as one of the award recipients for opening his heart and home to care for fellow seniors in need.

狮协的年长者李超群先生于2019年10月25日被新加坡陈笃生医院授予“新加坡患者护理奖”。该活动旨在表彰用坚定不移的奉献精神和力量来照顾他们亲人的护理员。李先生因打开心门和家来照顾有需要的年长者为获奖者之一。

The Drum Band brought the audiences an engaging medley of songs that ranged from the evergreens to pop.鼓乐队为观众带来了从经典到流行的各种歌曲。

狮协IT计划的沉浸式房间于2019年10月17日在美玲乐龄活动中心启动。这项技术使用各种形式的感知 （输入）和交互（输出）创造沉浸式体验，从而模糊了物理和虚拟世界之间的界线。该项目旨在改善居住在一房或两房组屋中的年长者的生活，通过刺激，参与或安抚环境，从整体上将年长者和他们的环境互动。使用沉浸式技术的好处包括让年长者在一个安全的环境接触新技术，改善他们的身心健康。这对于行动不方便且无法参加户外活动的年长者特别有利。

专为年长者设计的古迹之旅，让他们重温他们最喜欢的老地方，如小印度，唐人街和甘榜格南。由于大多数年长者从来没有机会旅行，因此狮协利用完全交互式的模板，将春季，秋季和冬季这三个季节带给了年长者。模板是整个房间的无缝投影，并添加了声音，灯光和其他效果等元素，使体验真正身临其境。
