There’s lots going on at Linkes   if you’d like to join any of our groups or would just like more information  please drop in to our office at block 200 o r contact: 0141 9544833 Many thanks to our funders again for helping to make Linkes a successful  project in so many ways   we couldn’t do it without you. Tickets for our Ceilidh on Sat 24 th  January at Knightswood Cong regational Church, are still available from t he Linkes office    only £5/adult, £2/child or £10/family -price includes Ceilidh band, dancing, food, tea, coffee and soft drinks. If you’re interested and want to book a place or  just find out more   contact Lori @ Linkes Volunteering The Glasgow West Area Volunteer Experience is a joint project  between LINKES, the Du mbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust and The Whiteinch Centre to develop and promote new volunteering opportunities, Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and make a difference in your local community. There’s something for everyone,  from  bike repair to toddlers groups, marketing t o composting. *Chrissy was interested in welfare rights    she spoke to Katherine and is now volunteering at Linkes benefits and advice sessions and is going to start training with the CAB. *Susan , Nicki and Jen all volunteer at Linkes play sessions   here’s why: “ I retired about a year ago and wanted to work with kids - I’m learning new skills.” “ It’s the flexibility that suits –  I met Katherine for a chat about opportunities    she was very cheery and wel- coming.” If you want to find out more about volunteering in the local area you can email Katherine at [email protected]. There’s also the new Glasgow WAVE Volunteer Map. You can find out about different organisations in the local area offering volunteering opportuni- ties   whether you’re interested in youth work, environmental projects or community action there'll be something happening that takes your fancy.     Computer drop-in sessions

    Tuesdays 9.30-11.30am and Wednesdays

    6.00-8.00pm

    Want to learn new skills? You can learn

    all about computing and also how they

    can help you job hunting. Its a small relaxed group where people learn what

    they want- at their own pace with support from the tutor. A group member

    said Stevie is a great tutor with a lot of patience.

    Sessions are open to all ages and you dont need any equipment laptops are

    provided for the sessions.

    You can learn how to use a laptop, email, the internet, skype etc or if you

    want to job search or make your CV why not come along. All ages

    welcome - and its free!

    Students attend 3 sessions a week at Linkes, which are run by Clyde

    College.

    Learn new skills for life:

    Using the bus or train

    How to register with a doctor or dentist surgery

    Phoning for house repairs

    Youll learn English in a small group with lots of help and support

    MENS GROUP Thursdays 6.30-8.30pm

    For all ages a night to get together Learn practical skills e.g. - railway, boat and plane model making.

    The next project is a model railway- so if

    youd like to get involved or just come

    along to watch and have a chat why not

    drop in.

    SENIORS LUNCH CLUB

    Thursdays from 11am -2pm

    Open to all seniors this lunch club runs with its own members organising the meals and activities.

    A superb 3 course lunch is available plus tea and coffee and a bit of company for just 3!

    Everyone lends a hand you can set the table peel the tatties cook take the money or help

    organise the trips.

    In the last year club members have been to the theatre/panto, Christmas lunch, a holiday to Blackpool,

    have taken part in chair exercise( with a bit of singing), machine knitting, aromatherapy and more.

    YOUTH CLUB

    Linkes Youth Club is run from 160 Lincoln Avenue and is open to children and young people from

    the age of 5 18years. We run 3 nights a week and have 2 after school clubs. The club works in Part-nership with Glasgow Life and A&M Scotland who provide youth workers and activities in the eve-

    nings. Throughout the year, we provide drop in sessions, trips, activity days and

    LOTS OF FUN!

    Over the last year, we have had snowboarding lessons, been to Blair Drummond Safari Park, worked

    with Xchange Scotland to create a mural during our Make Sectarianism a History Lesson sessions and

    did lots of cycling, to name a few activities.

    We get a lot out of these clubs, for example they are great fun, we meet new friends, learn new things

    and you get amazing experiences

    We welcome new members to join and all activities are FREE!

    Technical Demolition Services Ltd wishes to

    thank residents for their patience and under-

    standing and will continue to keep all

    residents and the local community informed

    of the programme of works and other related

    items in their newsletters.

    Community benefits TDS has continued to engage with Linkes throughout the work.

    They gave a generous donation to Christmas

    projects and have given items of salvage to

    local residents eg steel railings, UPVC win-

    dow, steel bench/seat, paving slabs.

    TDS have also carried out community litter

    picking, clearing leaves from footpaths and

    clearing many of the historically blocked

    rainwater drainage gulleys.

    Police Scotland update: For Ward Area

    2014 compared to 2013 - up to Oct 2014

    Serious assaults - down 6% Common assaults - down 8% Complaints re drinking in the street etc down 40% Vandalism - down 13% Possession and supply of drugs has increased but po-

    lice Scotland say this is down to increased intelligence

    and proactivity.

    Seatbelt offences - down 66% Mobile phone offences - down 50% Speeding and careless driving offences down Housebreaking - down 30% Vehicle crime increased by 14% which is due to

    unlocked cars having property stolen from them an operation is planned in the new year to tackle vehicle

    crime.

    Officers continue to provide talks to schools on drink,

    drugs and internet safety and to community groups on

    a range of safety issues including how to protect your-

    self from bogus workmen.

    Police would like to remind parents when dropping

    children off at schools to park safely, away from

    school gates and not cause an obstruction.
